  1. Bad news, Lee. I did a whois search on your domain name, and it looks like you are the administrative and registrant contacts, but your old host is the billing and technical contacts. The whois also shows the following status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED Since you got your domain for free, it looks like you don't own it, so your old host will probably be not-so-friendly about giving you control of the domain, or letting you point your nameservers elsewhere. You will have to contact your old host to see if they will allow you to transfer your nameservers elsewhere, or if they will allow you to transfer the domain to a different registrar. That is my best guess, based on what I can see in your whois record. Good luck.
  2. Ok. Here's my deal. I want to have an email alias forward to two different email addresses. I'm guessing that there are two ways you could potentially do this. First, you could set up two separate forwarding commands. Second, you could add two addresses in the Forwards To box (separated by commas or something). Which is the "right way"? I thought that you had to set up two separate forwarding commands, but I've set this up, and twice now one of the commands has disappeared. I'll set up both forwarders, aned they both work. But then a couple of days later, I'll come back and find that the second one has disappeared. It is no longer listed in the list of forwarders. What could be causing this to happen? Why would a forwarder simply disappear? Should I switch, and use option 2, outlined above, instead? This is causing my mother-in-law stress. This is not a good thing!!

    Permalinks

Actually, the permission is supposed to be 666 not 777. Does anybody know if the permalinks will continue to be created and work correctly if I switch the permissions back to 644? Thanks.
  4. I'd also like to note that in the "subscribe" dropdown list, if you want to subscribe to updates for server 36, you have to click on the first (of 2) server 37 option.

    Permalinks

WordPress tells me that if I want to use Permalinks, I have to change the permissions on my .htaccess file to 777, so it can write the rules that allow the permalinks to work correctly. Here is what I don't understand: Do I have to leave the permissions at 777, or can I switch them back to 644 once the change has been made? Isn't there a pretty big security risk if I leave my permissions at 777? Thanks,
  6. Ok. Sorry. I answered my own question. But I'm posting the response here, in case it is helpful to anybody:
  7. In WordPress 1.5, is there a way to create a page that is invisible? By invisible, I mean that it doesn't show up in my sidebar when you run the <?php wp_list_pages command. For example, I want to create a contact form on a page, but then when users fill out the form, I want to redirect to a THANK YOU Page. But I don't want the thank you page listed by the wp_list_pages command. I don't know if I'm making any sense. My brain is still fried this morning!!
  8. When you get ready to install WordPress, let us know. I made the switch from Blogger to WordPress a couple of months ago, and I love it! However, when I was migrating my old posts from Blogger, the WordPress functionality didn't work like it was supposed to. It brought all the posts, but not the comments. This is a WordPress issue, not a hosting or a Blogger issue. There is a fix for it, so you can get your posts AND their comments. So, again, when you are ready for it, let us know and we'll try to help.
  9. What is GD? What does it do?
  10. I'm considering installing the Image Headlines plugin for WordPress , and they say: I don't know what this is, so I'm asking my hosting provider. I'm on server 40, if it makes a difference. What is it? Do we have it? Thanks,

  12. Hmmm... I'm wondering if the problem isn't something else. If you have searched your HTML code (on the page that the link is on), and there is no >target="_blank" attribute, then the problem must be elsewhere. What else can you tell us about the site/page?
  13. StephanieP, welcome to the forums! If you are still having troubles after trying to follow that other post, come back and tell us where you're stuck. I'm sure somebody around here can help!
  14. Does this affect me without me knowing it? I mean, does this thread mean that those who want to can make these changes, or does it mean that the global functionality of AWstats at TCH has changed?

  16. Here's another vote for TextPad (www.textpad.com). I love the tabbed windows, and the ability to do a find/replace through any number of open files. Don't know what I'd do without TextPad (I'm also a registered user. $29 of the best dollars I ever spent).
  17. Probably you will need to modify the .htaccess file, but as I have never done that, I'll leave it for a more experienced family member. Good luck.
  18. Eric, I'm leaving town for the weekend (it is a State holiday weekend in Utah, so I won't be back until Tuesday), but if you post the kinds of problems you are having with your Coppermine installation, I'm sure we can help you overcome them. I just started using Coppermine a couple of months ago, and it was intimidating at first, but now I really like it. So tell us what kinds of problems you are having, and see if we can help. (If you want to PM me, I'll get back to you on Tuesday).
  19. I figured out what I did wrong. I didn't extract the files properly, so I lost the folder structure (duh!) Then I uploaded all the files to the same directory. I know better than that. Oh well. I've almost fixed everything again. I'm SO GLAD I did a backup of my database before I started. I would have been really sad if I hadn't!! But all is better now.
  20. I did backup the database, thankfully!! Testing it on a test forum would have been smart. I would have had fewer problems that way. Oh well. Glad I had my backup.
  21. Dangit. I knew I was going to have problems. Ok. I downloaded the phpBB 2.0.17 changed files. I extracted the 2.0.16 to 2.0.17 and uploaded all the files to my webserver. My forum is (was?) located at http://bookclub.pehrsonfamily.net so I went to http://bookclub.pehrsonfamily.net/install/...e_to_latest.php and I get an error. When I try to open the bookclub main page I get an error too. I broke it!! Now what do I do? (We need an emoticon for tears pouring out of my eyes)
  22. Thanks for letting us know about ANOTHER update. Hope I don't lose anything... I'm always afraid of updating. Everything seems to be working fine right now, but whenever I try to tinker with it....
  23. I'm not an MT user, but this sounds suspiciously like a missing .css file to me. I'd check to make sure all of my .css files were uploaded correctly, then I'd check the source code to make sure they were being referenced correctly for the new site (you know, using relative tags instead of static tags). But what do I know? I'm a WordPress user... So this advice may be worth less than you paid for it...
  24. I've never tried it, because I couldn't get my brain around how it would work (and because I don't have a domain that I'm willing to test it on right now... what if it wrecks the content in my public_html folder or something). So, the answer is no, I didn't try it.
