  1. So I guess my 285 was a fluke. Just kidding. My best was 140-ish (it was sometime yesterday). But I think my coworker played for about an hour. Maybe he did better!
  2. I write technical documentation... but that doesn't sound like what you are looking for! =Þ
  3. Thanks for the heads up, Raul!
  4. As for using photos on your blog, here is a WordPress blog by a fellow TCH family membor, Trevor Riehl: http://riehl.ca/ Look at how he has created a photo blog using WordPress. So, this is a great example of how WordPress allows you to do pictures, if you want. You'll probably have to find a theme that is specifically designed to do a photo blog, like Trevor's, if that is what you want to do, because the basic WordPress theme probably won't do what you want. But just because it isn't in the basic WP theme, doesn't mean you can't do it! If you want to see what other WordPress users are doing out there, you might try googling the phrase (with quotes): "powered by wordpress" Since lots of WordPress users leave this phrase on their blogs, searching for this phrase will direct you to a bunch of WordPress blogs. If you find something that you like on somebody's site, you can always write them for informaiton on how they did it. That's how I got the theme for my blog. I found another of Trevor's blogs online, and I really liked it, so I wrote to Trevor asking what theme he had used, and he sent me the theme files. I modified them slightly, and now I have my theme, which I really like. Anyway, if you want more WordPress help, we have a WordPress theme here on TCH. Ask away! If we can't help you, there is always wordpress.org. Good luck with your WP blog!
  5. Cool! That might come in useful for me! I appreciate it.
  6. I have not used MT, but I really like WP. I love how fast it is, and I like that it uses SQL/PHP, because as I'm trying to learn more about SQL and PHP, I can practice what I learn on my blog. It is fun. I love how easy WP is to install, maintain, and use. I love the feature set in WP, and I have had good success working with people on the WP forums to overcome any problems I've encountered. But I agree with others, install both and see which you like. If you go with WP, I'd recommend that you pick a different theme from the default theme. It isn't my favorite design. But that's just me...
  7. Never seen this trouble before. As a troubleshooting step, you might try changing the email address and then trying again; that would tell you if the problem is with WP or with your email provider. If you get the notification at the second email address, then you might check your filters and such to make sure the message wasn't getting tagged as SPAM by your email provider. If you don't get the notificiation at either email address, then you might check with the WordPress support site. That's what I would do for my next couple of steps, at least, if I were having this trouble (after, of course, checking with these fine TCH folks!). Maybe somebody else will have a better suggestion.
  8. Your cpanel name is the the username that you use to log into your cPanel for your website. So, if when I go to example.com/cpanel, and I log on with: username: luke password: skywalker And I have the following database: database name: starwars database user name: darthvader database user password: darkside When programs ask for my database information, I have to give them: database name: luke_starwars database user name: luke_darthvader database user password: darkside Note that the database user password IS NOT prepended with the cPanel login name. Does that help?
  9. Welcome to the forums Fabio. With the information that TCH-Rob gave you, I'd just add that since your subdomains are all folders under your WWW (i.e. public_html) folder, you can still point people to your sub domain, but make your links to your secure content leave the subdomain. So if you have a place called shopping.example.com, all your content resides in a folder called: public_html/shopping/ So, when you want to direct people to the secure part of that subdomain, just send them to the https://www.example.com/shopping/ location, and it will work fine. That way you can have the less-expensive certificate, and you can still have people use your subdomains as entry points to your content. Just a thought. YMMV. -Paul
  10. cool. just checking, because I noticed that when I was looking at your page.
  11. see comments inline You want to enter your primary domain name. Later you can park the other domains on the same account, so that when users typein the alternate domain name they are shown the same content. Or, later you can set the other domains for forward to your primary domain. In fact, for this, you don't even need a reseller account. You would only need a reseller account if you wanted the different domains to point to different content. Since they would all be pointing to the same content, you may find that a virtual account gives you better value. Here you want to change the Name Servers, so use the Name Servers option. Then, in the specified fileds you would enter the DNS infomration sent to you in your TCH welcome email. You won't know this until you actually set up your account and a TCH staff member activates it. It will probably be something like DNX.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM and DNY.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM, where the X and the Y are two different numbers. You will receive this information in your Welcome email. So there is nothing to do yet. The short answer is "yes", and we can give you more information once you have your domains either forwarded or parked. The decision to forward or park may depend on how you want email to be handled, so when you get to that point, you should ask this question specifically again, but with the information about whether you would rather park or forward your domains. I think these are separate if you are parking, but the same if you are forwarding. Maybe somebody else can tell you more. If you park your domains or set up separate hosting accounts for them (if you do a reseller account) then you can do this by modifying the .htaccess file. Somebody can give you more specific directions when you decide whether to park or set up separate hosting accounts. If you decide to do a reseller account, then you would set up your own personal account in your own Web Hosting Reseller account in your main cPanel account. However, again, you might consider creating two separate virtual accounts, as this may still provide better value to to you than one reseller account. The way I look at it you have to make a couple of choices. 1. Do you want to do reseller or virtual? Two virtual accounts may be cheaper than one reseller account, and dollar-for-dollar may provide better value of services. However, if you want to have each of your five domains hosted on their own accounts, you will have to do a reseller account. And as I think about it, TCH may consider it a violation of the TOS if you have the warning page that you propose, alerting users that they aren't at the right site. So, I guess if you are doing that you may be required to have a reseller account. Mabye one of the TCH staff can clarify that point. 2. Do you want to park your domains on you main domain or set up separate accounts for them or just forward them at the registrar? If you park them, then each domain will totally function as if it were the main account, and it would be shown in the URL. Your .htaccess file could be modified to warn users that they aren't on the main account (but again, you may have to be a reseller account for this to function). If you forward them, then when users type in smokee.com they will automatically go to smokey.com, and the URL will change, and there won't be any alert in the window. If you set up separate accounts for them witin the reseller account, then their index page can alert them that they are on the wrong site, and can redirect them to the correct site after 5 or 10 seconds or whatever. In the end, you may decide that a reseller account works for you. I am certain that you can do everything you asked about if you have a reseller account. I think that you MAY be able to do it all with a virtual account, but you can wait for a TCH staff to respond to this thread, or you can open a help desk ticket (use "unknown" as the username and password) to get this answered very quickly. Best wishes.
  12. On an ulrelated note, I noticed that currently when users enter their username and password and click submit, their username and password are passed to the URL; Are you going to be securing your username and password so they aren't sent in clear text over the internet?
  13. Its been a while since I added a new account, but it seems like I just signed up for a new account, and then in my comments area, I told them the other domains I was hosting, and gave them my username for the domain that I considered to be my "primary" account. The techs got it straight and have me as one customer with multiple accounts in the system. I know this because I submitted a help desk ticket the other day and they gave me the expiration dates for all my hosting accounts.
  14. Welcome to the forus, vinyl-junkie. I think that six months from now you may find that having your old host go out of business turned out to be a good thing for you! I mean, if you join us at TCH, you'll find the best prices for the service in the business. I've also had other hosts, and none have been anywhere near the quality of servers, quality of service, and quality of help desk as I've had at TCH. I wouldn't host anywhere else. So here's hopeing that you join the TCH family!
  15. Hey Bill, Welcome to the forums!! I was going to suggest moving the site to a company that manages servers for you... Maybe someplace like TCH! But then, I decided that it might not be that helpful... Oh well. Good luck. Hope it works for you.
  16. I think that these two lines may be showing your user ID. If that is the case, a moderator should probably edit them to protect the user ID:
  17. I may be wrong, but the whole point of putting it above the public_html folder is so that you can't access it wtih HTML. The only way to access folders is to do something server side, and you can't do that in HTML. You'd have to do somethin in PHP. Maybe somebody with more PHP could address whether or not it is possible in PHP, but I'm almost certain you can't do it with regular HTML. I mean, that is kind of the point of moving it above the public_html folder.
  18. You know, if the person REALLY wants to keep their AOL account, you could create a Gmail account for them, and then forward the Gmail account to AOL. So you would create a forwarder in cPanel that forwarded to Gmail, and then set the Gmail account to forward all incoming messages to the AOL account. Just a thought. Best wishes.
  19. AOL will not allow TCH to forward email to AOL accounts. Basically AOL was going to ban all TCH email as SPAM unless TCH prohibited AOL accounts from being set as forward target addresses. Here is a link to a forum topic describing this issue: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...howtopic=16053& Oh, and welcome to the forums!! EDIT: Um, Thomas beat me to it. So, amen to what he said.
  20. I can see it now, when I go to the url directly. How are you going to accomplish that cool background without making you pages huge?
  21. Here is what I was seeing earlier; However, it seems to be resolved now. Oh well. And, for what its worth, I'm now able to add attachments. Hmmm. Wonder what was up....
  22. I get a 404 error, eggrock, when I try to follow your link; Actually, it is a 403 error (Forbidden) with an additional 404 error.
  23. WARNING: UNRELATED TCH-Bruce, What happened to your avitar? I've seen it this way in every thread you've posted to today. I'll include a screen shot in case you aren't seeig the same thing. I've restarted my browser, and I"m still seeing your messed-up image. Yours is the only one with this problem. Well, I would have uploaded it, but I'm getting the following error:
  24. Cool! Thanks. I have been using 1.9.91 for quite a while now. Yay for OpenOffice!!!
  25. Absolutely. There are a lot of people on here who host forums on their websites. We have members who use Simple Machines Forums, phpBB, Invision, and MANY others. In fact, the TCH control panel (cPanel) has two 1-click installers: phpBB (current) and Invision (not current; last free release before they went to subscription only). If you have questions about a specific forum, post back and we'll respond. If you have questions about server load/etc., then open a ticket to the help desk (there is a link at the top of this web page for the Help Desk). When the form asks for a user name and password, type "none" in both fields. Welcome to the forums!! We hope you join the TCH family. I've been here for 3 years, and I couldn't be happier with a hosting company!
