Chad, Either you have: I) Set something wrong in the .htaccess file or its missing II) Set up the redriect wrongly III) Some else. If your not sure, submit a help ticket and we shall have a look! JIm

Hi, It is that simple, you are not missing anything! Its the best way as it allows you to get your new site running here perfectly before doing the transfer. Answer to your questions: I) Both in different senses. I will explain. At present your current hoster does your email. When you make the change, over a period of 72hrs, email will either go to your old hoster or Total choice hosting, depending on the persons ISP. Thats why its good to have both accounts running. After this period, all email will be handled by us. You will not loose any mail during that 72 hr period, it will either just goto us or them. II) You will always be able to recieve your email. What you might need to check is the port number which you send from. TCH sends using its smtp using port 2095. If at work you have this blocked, you can proberley get around it in many various ways. I just use my work SMTP to send mail with no problems. Any further queries or problems? I look foward to seeing you as part of the TCH family Jim

Hi, Submit a help desk ticket stating good reasons for your shell access. Cost is stated on the front page. If approved, you will be given jail shell access. Jim

Hi, Here is what you do (and I would go the whole mile, its makes it more sense to move everything rather then just the odd feature, you will not loose out on anything like email or such if you follow the below steps): I) Buy a total hosting account II) In your welcome email, there will be an IP address, something like: Http://100.100.100.100/~yournewname/ You can upload your total content to this site and view it using the above URL III) Then you intruct your domain name to point to our two name servers. Both of these will be given to you in the welcome email IV) This will take upto 72hrs with 99% of companies, some ISPs may take upto 7 days (extreme and rare). During this time, both your new account and old account will be active, so customers never miss a beat. It also means you get email no matter what happens! V) After your happy that the domain name now points to your new account with Total choice, decomission your old web hosting account. VI) Yes you can upload as many CGI scripts as you want (space being your limiting factor) Its as simple as that, and whats even better, is that we are here behind you every step of the way, and also give you a 30 day money back policy! What more could you ask for! Jim

I Want To Keep My Domain Name - How Can I Transfer
TCH-JimE replied to a topic in Pre-Sales Questions
Hi, You will need to contact the registar of the domain name. Can you quote the domain name so we can check? If not, can you log in and change the name servers for your domain name? Jim -
Hi, Could you please tell us the domain name and I will have a look and see how its done, who actually owns it. Jim

Hi, There is, but as always there is problems. I) Design using standard safe fonts. Using CSS its possiible to make a font list. The computer will check for each font as it goes through the list, the 1st font it comes across which matches it, it will use. E.g. font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; II) You can embed fonts which requires users to download the font to see it. Now this falls apart more then step one because its different depending on the browers. Whatever happens, the user can override your fonts as a sercuity precaution. I do and prefer step 1, makes it much easier! Jim

Hi, Lianna knows my problems with posts, but I have not experienced your ones. I think phpBB would be best Jim
-
I will now throw a spanner in the works. CSS is not fully supported by all browsers, neither is it the same on different browers. Grrr! However, CSS is the way to go and it looks beautiful once its done and also screen readers have a much easier time of reading it if you do it right. Jim
-
Hi, Long as you make the CSS W3C complaint, yes you can do! Jim

Just drink some of that Diet Coke I know you love Bill Jim

Hi, DOmains take upto 72hrs to propergate through the net. Sometimes a bit longer depending on the lazyness of the ISP updating itself. Its best to use your IP address given to you in your starter email. If you still have problems, let us know Jim
-
Hi, If the table is static, you could use CSS and layers to get around the problem Jim

Bandwidth And Space Usage For Forums
TCH-JimE replied to 4MRM's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Hi, Well i run a succesfully phpBB. It has the following average stats per day of 171 visitors, 2485.43 pages, 15718.21 hits and 32 megs of bandwidth. I have the blue style setup. There is no mail feature on the forum, and private messages are limted to a maximum of 10. With gzip feature turned on, the mysql database is about 15 megs in size (80 megs with no compression) . With 276 users and just under 10,000 articles. I hope this gives you some impression of what it will use, in other words, not very much on my silver package. Jim -
Hi, Glad its all worked, hope my reply was ok! Jim
-
Hi, I can confirm its not on server 5 yet. Maybe Bill is looking at with his Imac Jim
-
4rmr, Could you please PM Rick and Myself with your cpanel and password. We can then start a help ticket for you Jim

Hi, Did you apply for SSH before we stopped supplying it? Jim
-
Hi, Well lets put a few pointers down: I) We offer a 30 day money back policy. If you get 1/2 way and decided you don't like it, just let us know and your free to go! II) In all honesty, it should be quite simple to transfer a php/mysql site between servers. Here is how I would do it: i) Back up everything. Twice. ii) Sign up with us, but keeping your current server online and running iii) Transfer your php to the new hosting. Then transfer the mysql database (many tutorials online about how to transfer mysql) iv) Tweak the odd thing which is bound not to work. v) Once your happy with the new site, transfer your domain name keeping both sites up and running till the DNS transfers have taken place (72 hrs normally) vi) Turn your computer off and enjoy having your site hosted for you If at any point before point (v) you want to give up, then you just have to close your hosting account and your old one will be unaffected. By using the back ups, it also means your old one is unaffected. III) Yes we are patient! Hope this helps Jim

Hi, Just to provide an example: I own www.bugmansbrewery.com I have the following subdomains: Forum.bugmansbrewery.com - My web forum for my site Gubbinz.bugmansbrewery.com - Place where bits for the site which just dont come under any other header go Galleries.bugmansbrewery.com - User submitted galleries Links.bugmansbrewery.com - The links section Hobby.bugmansbrewery.com - Painting and modelling skills So whilst they all have different content, they all about the same site and same topic, Warhammer Subdomains are very useful Jim

Bill, PM'd you Jim
