  1. If it's an image, then it should be just "middle".
  2. I don't think either one would be less likely for spam. It depends on how you give out your address. If you're rather particular about who you give your address to, then it will be less likely to get spam. If you use the address on everything you do, then you will be more likely. Email harvesters will always find a way.
  3. Try making the align tag say "center" instead of "middle" Dave...you're just too fast!
  4. Another O'Reilly book! Maybe I should by stock in the company! (I've got several already!) Good idea!
  5. Dreamweaver, like FrontPage, will allow you to edit in WYSIWYG. However, like Jim said, since php is designed to be run at the server, the pages may appear "weird" in the WYSIWYG editor. Then you also have the possibility of the page not rendering properly on the user's web browser. There may be a WYSIWYG editor available for php files out there somewhere. I just haven't heard of it.
  6. Although nothing is truly "secure" (unless it's unplugged), generally anywhere above the public_html directory is a safe bet.
  7. Glad to hear it's working now. (Isn't it great when we can solve our own problems? )
  8. Are you sure? If someone leaves their access open, its not illegal to access and use it. You can't steal files or data or do damage like changing or deleting files. But just browsing the web I believe is ok...unless you secure it and its hacked or broken into. I believe since its wireless and is broadcast over the radio wavelength its covered by FCC rules...and receiving radio frequencies is not illegal. But I could be wrong . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Receiving is not illegal...transmitting is. (But really officer! It was only for a second or two! )
  9. For anyone who's interested, Barnes & Noble bookstores will have a book available soon for "CSS for Dummies". Link here. Personally, I plan on buying it! )
  10. Just an observation here. I'm currently working at a building located on a small airport in southern Florida. I set my laptop up and, lo and behold...my wireless card picked up a very strong wireless network signal. (There are some houses and condo's across the street from the site, so I'm thinking it's from one of them.) There is no security on this network and I'm able to get into the Internet and browse at will if I wanted to. I also did some network system checks. Whomever owns this network also has file sharing enabled on their system so I was able to see into their computer. (For the record, I did NOT use this network for Internet access...that is illegal.) This is NOT a good thing! There are many websites available that will explain wireless security and how to secure your network a bit. (Do a google search on "wireless security".) Even most of the router manufacturers have information that can be found on their websites. You don't have to be a rocket scientist and understand how each and every byte of information goes through every port. Just the basics...like changing the default wireless security settings after the router is installed. Due to my job, I spend quite a bit of time on the road. I can tell many horror stories of network security issues that some people, including some major hotel chains, had no clue about. (On the plus side, I've gotten several free nights out of pointing out network problems to the hotel management! ) Now I don't claim to be a security expert, but I have learned enough to be able to secure my wireless system at home pretty effectively. Bottom line is a little knowledge goes a long way. In these days of hackers and ID theft, it is MUCH better to be informed than to become a victim of some unscrupulous characters. In this case, it is a good thing to be a little paranoid.
  11. well now that we've got it down to the general area of the problem, have you contacted your DSL provider to see if things can be corrected? (I know DSL is so much better than dialup!)
  12. I would think that the increase (if any) wouldn't be all that noticable...unless you're running some highly intensive processes. I have all of my sql password files located in a directory off of public_html and haven't had any problems (that I know of anyway). If I'm incorrect, I'm sure someone will let us know.
  13. Thanks all! (Especially RobertM!)
  14. What type of connection do you have? Cable/DSL with a router? If so, that may also be a possible source of your problem.
  15. I did some research on ms's website and found this. Not sure if it would help you or not, but maybe it will help point you in the right direction to solve your issue. We'll see if any other Frontpage guru's have any input. (Guess I need to reload FP on my laptop so I can do more research! )
  16. Anyone know of a good website that I can download a CSS tutorial to study at my leisure?
  17. Remember you can always ask your "family" for help on installations. Also, you might want to consider moving away from Frontpage (not that FrontPage is bad for initially learing how to design websites...I used it!). In the long run, you will learn a lot more about HTML and the like than you ever thought possible by going to another program. And like serpentine said, make sure you have the latest version to help thwart any unwanted attacks on your site.

    Php

You can write php in Frontpage...you just gotta get a little creative and "trick" Frontpage a bit. Can you give us more specifics...what you're trying to do and what you've got so far?
  19. Have you gotten your welcome email yet?
  20. As explained in other threads, being pro-active instead of re-active is always a good thing. (In other words, beat the attackers in securing your site before they beat you!)
  21. Welcome to the forums, John!
  22. Being proactive is always easier than being reactive. You are doing the right thing in keeping things up to date!
  23. Welcome to the family! As you have already seen, feel free to ask for help at anytime!
  24. He needs to run the Busch races more often...seems like he did better on Sundays when he used to do that.
  25. Had an opportunity to meet Michael before a Busch series race last year...no difference between the TV version and the in-person person. And Mark Martin got another top 10. Off to a good start so far!
