In a perfect setup, your files would not be readable without being parsed by the webserver (which means db passwords, etc.. would not be viewable if they are in a parsed file like PHP). The primary reason websites get "hacked" is usually because the site owner has installed a vulnerable script that allows an outsider to get around the webserver processing to gain access as the user "nobody" to that site (which is why 777 permissions are bad and should be avoided as much as possible). To protect against someone using a vulnerabile script to upload their own files, you should avoid 777 if at all possible (some uploading and editing scripts though may require 777 for certain directories). Directories owned by the user nobody with owner write permissions would also fall under this. To protect db passwords and other file content that you don't want viewed, you should be very selective in what you install in your account, and always keep the software you use up to date (watch for security patches). While we can do a lot to protect accounts from each other, we can only do so much to protect account owners from their own software. Btw, I'm speaking generally here, not specific to anyone's incident.

Yea...my recollection of my physics classes is that you see the light that is reflected by the object. Green objects reflect only green (or green related wavelengths) and absorbs the others. Black absorbs all wavelengths, white reflects all wavelengths. To elaborate more on this, that same site has more info to go along with the grass is green because of chlorophyll answer: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/chem99/chem99012.htm

He and his team unfortunately have some serious work to do to make that a reality. Mark's a good guy and racer. I'm still a little hung up on Tony's past (his temperament) to really get behind him, but I know he's come a long ways these last couple/few years. I'm looking forward to seeing some more young drivers get up there too. This is likely the last year of the super fast speeds, so enjoy it (or suffer through it depending on your view) while you can...

I don't really know the Frontpage client, but the reason your themes and images aren't displaying is it appears they weren't uploaded (published). For example, your background and some images are referenced in a directory under _themes/sunflowr/, and some images are under _derived/, neither of which appear to exist. Someone with FP experience may be able to tell you how to publish those theme elements.

Adjusting your refresh may help, adjusting your brightness might to. Some whine if they get too warm so try a cooler environment if you can. I know the 2405fpw has a history of whining problems especially when they get too warm, but I don't really know the history on the Dell 17" monitors. (fortunately, my 2405fpw that I've had for 6-7 months is very quiet, but it is in a well ventilated area too).

Welcome back, buddy.

The quality went down, imo, on the FA311 from the FA310 when they switched to a cheaper chipset, but it's still a decent home network card. The fa310 used the DEC tulip chipset which I liked (and have one of these cards still in an old system). I also have an fa311 or two and they do work fine... just they weren't as well supported by 3rd party drivers, at least when they came out.

"3 30 * * *" is part of the scheduling, put that in the appropriate scheduling fields when you setup the cron job. The actual command is "/usr/bin/php -q /home/********/user/backup.php" and is the *only* thing that should be in the command field. Right now you are putting the scheduling items in the command field so it's attempting to run "3" as the first command.

A little behind on the reply, but welcome aboard Aaron! Well deserved.

Redirecting Http://www.mydomain.tld/webmail

The redirect happens before your .htaccess is looked at, so you won't be able to change that in your .htaccess. -
Externally Hosted E-mail And Web Site Functionality
MikeJ replied to editor's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Using another service to send out large mailings will have no effect on your TCH account (email generated by CGI's will still go out just fine). Even if you change your MX records to point to another email service, your account will still be able to send email out. TCH, though, is primarily a webhosting service, not an email service (beyond the basic support for regular email, not large lists), which is why we have limits on the sending of emails to limit damage caused by blacklists to other customers on the same servers. The only option we provide at this time for controlling your own limits on sending emails is through our dedicated server solutions. -
Actually port 25 is the RFC-compliant port for SMTP traffic and why some ISP's block it as a spam prevention measure. 26 is not (and the reason why most of the time it isn't blocked by ISP's), but we allow SMTP traffic on port 26 as well to allow customers that are being blocked on port 25 from their ISP's to be able to send mail through our servers still. The answer to that is that TCH servers listen on both port 25 and port 26 for SMTP mail already.

We'll Need A New "hurricane" Topic If This Keeps On!
MikeJ replied to Deverill's topic in Open Discussion
Get everyone to face east and blow as hard as they can. Maybe you can turn it back. -
If you are talking about installable forums, phpBB 2.0.17 (usually kept to the most current version is available) and Invision Power Board 1.2 (last free version so there will be no newer versions of it) are available through the control panel installer. You are, of course, free to install other forum software as well manually.

Sorry I'm not fully understanding you. Are you saying you want the page on your subdomain displayed, but you want your main domain shown as the URL?
-
Oh... in that case you'd probably be best just redirecting your main page to your subdomain. In your control panel, find your Manage Redirects, and create a redirect by leaving the source input box blank (to redirect your root) and enter "yoursub.yourtchdomain.com" in the destination input box. You can select whether the code should be temporary or permanent that is passed back to browsers (if you don't plan to have a site on your main url, then make it permanent). Then requests for yourtchdomain.com or www.yourtchdomain.com will be redirected to yoursub.yourtchdomain.com.
-
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking.. If you want to get rid of the directory listing that will pop up if no index pages exist, you can simply create an index page (index.php, index.html, etc...) and put it in that directory. Or if you don't plan to put any index pages in that directory, you can create a .htaccess file in that directory with the single line of: >Options -Indexes The latter can also be done through your Control Panel's "Index Manager". Is that what you are referring to?
-
No, we don't. Sorry. Welcome to the forums though.

Hi smblkc, Shared SSL is provided by TCH on virtual servers (not reseller servers). There is nothing to setup as it's already available to you now. You can find more information including how to use the shared SSL in the TCH Help. For reseller servers, TCH does not provide shared SSL solutions. You will be required to purchase an SSL certificate if you want to provide SSL. Any questions about or requests for SSL can be submitted through the help desk.

How Do You Read Raw Access Logs?
MikeJ replied to kfordham281's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Most of the time you'll just want to run it through some type of analyzer, but in some cases you may want to actually view and search the contents of your log file. Generally, you'll have a problem with the file due to it's size. One way to view it a little at a time is by using the "more" command from the commandline: "more < filename". Another option is to get something that loads only parts of the file in memory at a time as you view it. One program I found just googling (I'm assuming you are running Windows) is called Large Text File Viewer that you might want to try (never used it myself, so I don't know how well it works). -
Mailman - Custom Welcome Email
MikeJ replied to davidcullinan's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Is the mailman version listed on your server 2.1.6? Found the problem. Most of the servers are still running 2.1.5. Once 2.1.6 Mailman is rolled out across all of the servers you'll have the option to modify your Welcome email. -
Mailman - Custom Welcome Email
MikeJ replied to davidcullinan's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
To modify your welcome message in Mailman, simply login to your administrative interface for Mailman, select Edit the Public HTML pages and text files, and select Welcome email text file. Modify and save. It's as simple as that. -
The server address is only supposed to be used while your domain propogates (initial setup of your account). Totalchoicehosting.com and all the other sites keep their addresses up there in the browser because those are the actual addresses, not redirects. With your site setup correctly, you should be able to access your "main.php" by using http://www.yourtchdomain.com/main.php and not redirect anything.
