You can host as many domains as you wish under the Simple reseller plan. You can also have an SSL certificate installed on any of your accounts. The installation fee is $35 for each certificate.

I looked back at the questions that started this thread and much of what we have discussed is not relevant. The bottom line is that if you use the Shared SSL you will have a shared IP. The shared IP is set up on the shared IP of the server so it will not work with a dedicated IP. That makes the decision between a dedicated SSL or a shared SSL. If you choose to install a dedicated SSL certificate then you will have a dedicated IP as well.

I can see Google penalizing sites if there is no RDNS for their IP since that is common with spammers. All of our server have RDNS enabled so that the IP does return a host name. Many ISPs will block email if the sending address does not have RDNS enabled. I would suspect GMail does this (which is run by Google.) If 87% of sites share an IP as stated in the site you linked, then it would certainly cut down on the usefulness of Google's listings if they don't index them. I seriously doubt the veracity of that claim. Anybody can state anything on the internet. I could put up a site tonight stating that Andy wears a clown hat while watching TV but that doesn't make it true. The prices listed at that site were much higher than our prices for accounts that would indeed have a dedicated IP included, i.e. a dedicated server or a site with a dedicated SSL certificate.

The simple truth is that there simply aren't enough IP addresses available for everyone to have a dedicated IP address. For that reason guidelines were set up to determine whether there is a legitimate need for a dedicated IP address. There is no problem with Google indexing your site if it uses a shared IP. I have a site that has been in the top 3 on Google for a particular search for a couple of years and it has always been on a shared IP. Reason 2 is accurate and is the reason that we have a zero tolerance for spam. Anyone spamming on one of our servers will be suspended or terminated immediately. We've had very few problems with servers being on blacklists and in the rare case when it happens we are able to get it resolved quickly. I have not seen any cases of your 3rd example. It is possible and would most often be seen on a school network or similar network. Our school network blocks a lot of things and I have never had any problems accessing any site on one of our servers based on IP, only on content. In most cases sites that truly need a dedicated IP will also need a dedicated server or at the very least opt for a dedicated SSL certificate which includes a dedicated IP address.

You cannot install the SSL from the CPanel, it must be installed on the server by our admins. The cost is $35 and includes moving the account to a dedicated IP and the installation of the certificate. Just open a Help Desk ticket using the link at the top of this page to request the installation.

You should be able to retrieve the stuff off the hard drive either by putting it in another laptop or using an adapter to make it an external drive. I got a case off of EBay and have seen them at CompUSA that you can plug the laptop HD into and then hook it up to a USB port.

I got your PM and before answering wanted to test on my account. I am not sure what is making the requests for mt.cgi from that IP address. I ran mt.cgi on my account and left it open to see if there was some sort of auto refresh that would give log entries like that. In looking at the log there are similar entries throughout the month at the one minute intervals. To test whether it is coming from your computer I would suggest turning off the computer for 15 minutes or so and then checking the logs. It might also be helpful to send the log to support at SixApart.

I would suggest upgrading to the latest version as well. It is not true that all versions of MT 3 use less resources. I have not kept up with the changes that have been made as I stopped using MT several months back when one of my sites was suspended for comment spam causing server problems while I was not working. MT has been banned on some hosts and if were not as popular and widely used as it is I suspect it would be banned on many more. Even on a small blog I have seen it use a lot more resources that other software. I ran a number of tests when I was looking at WordPress but that was version 2.63. Back in December I read an interview as SixApart was recommending certain changes while they looked at fixing bugs that were exploited by the comment spammers. They mentioned that they were concerned that many hosts would ban the script if a fix was not found.

I do not think there was any sort of "attack" on mt.cgi in this case. I looked through the logs of the account for today and all of the access to mt.cgi was from your IP. I copied the log entries to a file in your root folder that you can look at. Part of the problem is due to the way MT rebuilds the entire site when an entry is made. It doesn't matter whether the post is two lines or two hundred, the whole site is rebuilt. Some of the changes to MT after the major problems with comment spammers last year was to prevent rebuilding every time a comment was added even if the page didn't change. As a blog gets bigger, the load on the server goes up every time that another entry is added.

This isn't necessarilly true. Even within the same ISP there are multiple DNS so you could connect to one while someone else could connect to another and they would have different information. Your computer may have the IP cached so that would explain why you are able to view it while someone else is not. I can't see it at all using the domain but can see it using the IP. The server has not been down so the problem earlier was likely a glitch in the routing or a problem from the ISP. There is something flaky going on with the registrar. It could have something to do with the transfer but it looks to me like someone there messed up something. I have doublechecked the DNS on our end and it is all set up correctly.

Your ISP probably has the IP cached so you are able to access it to some extent. I ran a check at http://www.mob.net/~ted/tools/dns.php3?domain=uniquelyalike.com and it is not resolving at most of the nameservers.

I'm getting conflicting results when trying to do a Whois search on that domain. I checked and the domain is resolving correctly on our nameservers but it looks like there could be a problem at your domain registrar. It is not due to expire for 10 more days but acts like they have disabled it. You should contact them and check.

I have been using a Pentax Optio s5i for a few months now and love it for every day use. It is a 5 megapixel camera and is tiny so I can keep it with me. I used it at my daughter's wedding and got some great shots. I agree with Striver on the issue of cropping. My brother had a nicer Olympus at the wedding but it was a 3 megapixel camera. The full sized shots were great but I was able to get better prints from cropped images. I also highly recommend Picasa 2 for handling your photos. It makes it real easy to make quick corrections in lighting, crop for various sizes, and even upload photos to be printed at several different stores. My daughter and I looked through the wedding photos, picked out 100 of them, cropped them, and uploaded to Walmart. We went out to lunch and then picked up the pictures.

The Semi-dedicated has the same features of the Deluxe Reseller except for the disk space and bandwidth being much larger. Shell access is not available except on true dedicated servers.

The owner at my previous host died and the quality of service went downhill rapidly. In a moment of weakness I signed up for a plan with a company that spammed me. They were offering a lot of disk space and bandwidth for about double what I was paying for 50 megs of space. In the two weeks I was there the site was down more than it was up. Before moving again I searched findmyhosting.com and found this place. I managed to get a refund at the other place after a couple of weeks of emailing. That was two and a half years ago. Been here ever since.

The hostname should be localhost. The database name looks correct. Also be sure you have added the user to the database in CPanel.

Good eyes. You are correct, forwarders to AOL accounts are not allowed.

If you only want the address to forward to another account you would only need to add that address to the forwarders and not add it under the Manage/Add Accounts. You can delete the account you created there to delete the email on the server.

I think yuo handled this well. Hopefully the person learned something as well. The ease of copying and pasting such posts has increased the problem but it is certainly not new. I'm reminded of a story one of my professors once told. This professor was a well-known and published preacher. One summer he and his wife were on vacation and decided to go to a little church near the campground they were staying at. As the service started he thought it was interesting that the sermon title was the same as one he had published. As the preacher started the sermon it was pretty much word-for-word right out of the book. After the service, the professor waited until everyone else had left, shook hands with the preacher and commented, "I enjoyed the sermon." The preacher replied with a "Thank you" or something similar. The professor then replied, "Of course I enjoyed it when I wrote it three years ago." and then left. He doubted that the young man would be so quick to use a published sermon again.

Yes, chmod is changing the permissions. In the File Manager in CPanel be sure to use the check boxes rather than just typing in the numbers. You can also change the permissions in most FTP programs by right clicking on the filename or folder.

There was a problem with the /tmp folder on the server being full. Someone else IMed me with the same error on the same server so I took a look.

Everything should be fine now. Please test it and let me know if there is still a problem.
