It's a pretty nice program but the installation instructions were a bit vague in spots. Took me a while to get it working but it's easy to use once it's up and running. I probably shouldn't have tried to install it late at night.

I found a php program called Gallery 1.3.3 at this site and use it on my page to produce photo galleries. You just upload your photos and it creates the thumbnails and resizes the photos to whatever dimensions you specify. If you click on the thumbnail it loads the resized photo (mine are set for 800 x 600) and if you click on that photo it loads the original photo that you uploaded. Interesting reading. I especially loved the part about Google being king. I have a Math Blog that I use as a part of my teaching high school math and the highlight for me this last month is that it shows up #1 on a google search for "Math Blog" and in the top five or so for "algebra practice" and similar searches. One of the more popular parts of the site is an interactive algebra section that I got from a guy named Robert Bunge. If you do a google search for "Robert Bunge" my site pops up #1 as well (his school site is a few pages on down.) Besides the chance to brag it also shows that sometimes just good luck (and having a fairly narrow focus) helps as well. I've had the site up for about a year and a half and never submitted it to any search engine. Now that it is in the engines I have folks from all over visit the site although I originally set it up just to help my students.

I tried using Mozilla to view the page and also found that the scroll wheet didn't work. Then I clicked on one of the links to the left and the scroll wheel worked fine even though it was viewing within the same page. Odd quirk, I guess.

Yea! I tried to upload an avatar again today and it worked. I knew if I kept the Bucs avatar long enough someone would get it working.

Any idea when AWStats will be working on all sites. I still get a Never Updated message when I run it. I noticed on a new domain I just moved here that AWStats is the only package in the CPanel. I checked my conf file and all looked in order so I'm not sure why I'm not seeing anything.

That really is odd. I went through a bunch of sites I regularly visit and had no problems. Just an internet burp, I guess. Now I need to jump over to the TCH main page and get hosting for our church. The committee decided to switch and gave me the ok to move it along. Speaking of committees, I saw a new poster on Despair.com that said of committees "None of us is as dumb as all of us." Sometimes too true...

The config file is located in the tmp directory (outside of your public_html directory.) I looked through the config file on my site trying to figure out why I'm not getting stats through AWStats yet. Seems I remember seeing something about skipping an IP address while I was sorting through it.

Like most of us, I've learned some things the hard way. My problems transfering my board helped me learn a lot more about phpMyAdmin. Fortunately I didn't worry too much about messing things up since I only had a few messages to transfer over. Starting from scratch wouldn't have been a disaster. I logged in here the day that the board had to be rebuilt. I could swear I heard mumbling and grumbling as the directories were being rebuilt in front of me. Speaking of which, any word on what was going on earlier with the board not being accessible--at least not to me? I could get to my sites and most other sites but not to the TCH homepage or Forums.

I downloaded and ran AdAware this afternoon. I've been trying for a few days to get it and kept getting the Not Available until the first of February message. It did catch a couple of things that SpyBot missed so looks like a good update. I've also used AdAware for quite some time and am glad they finally got the new version out the door. New users might be surprised how many files it finds when run for the first time.

Just a head's up, if you click on the link to see the example you might want to read the post about AdAware in this forum. It tries to install Gator.

I had problems transfering my board over. I had switched to a different theme and in the switch couldn't see anything until I changed my theme preference to the default in phpMyAdmin. Just to be safe I would switch to the default theme settings in the old board then reinstall any new themes after everything is running correctly. That was with InVision Board so it may not apply to phpbb. Good luck in the move.

Glad everything is working well. I spoke with a tech and for security reasons it is not possible to run cgi scripts fropm a directory set to 777. Since cgiwrap is also installed that is not a problem because you can just use 755 instead and all should work well.

I get the same thing. It's just the way invision handles things, I guess. It would be nice if it would trap that error and just return a "No New Messages" reply.

I get a Page Not Found error when I click on the comments link. I looked at the source code but don't know enough about how it is set up to help. If you want blog software that is stable and includes comments built in I would recommend Movable Type. It's free for non-commercial use and works great. It should be pretty simple to adapt the template you are using to MT and I've seen other MT sites with the BlogAmp add-in. I use MT 2.51 for several blogs and w.blogger to post when I don't feel like going into the Movable Type entry system. I can go from thinking of an idea to having it posted in a couple of minutes. (Not always a good thing. )

I found it at http://www.elektrik-sheep.com/newspro/ using Google. The amphibianweb site seems to be down. Not sure if that means it's not supported anymore or what.

I've had AWStats on my Cpanel for about a week now (since they added it to Server 10) but it still hasn't loaded any data. It still says Never Updated at the top. I like the looks of the interface but would like to compare it to Webalizer with actual stats loaded. I had stats loaded into Webalizer (and Analog) less than 24 hours after getting my site up and running so that is an advantage I see over AWStats if it takes over a week to start loading data.

Sorry you had trouble with this script but it helped me. It looks like this may be something I can use on one of my pages. I downloaded the script and tried it out. The solution seems to be the same one for a similar script called NewsPro. The installation instructions say to install to a directory CHMODed to 777 but our servers seem to have a problem with this in running scripts. Try changing the permissions on your eventpublisher directory to 755 instead of 777. When I did that it worked fine. Actually I got some other errors from the program itself. The instructions are not too complete as to how to use the program. Here's what I found in playing with it. 1. CHMOD eventpublisher directory to 755. 2. Edit Section B in the eventpublisher.cgi file to match where you have set things up in your domain. Be sure and change all the http entries in the *.htm files to your domain. 3. Open the eventpublisher_admin.htm and add an event so the data file will be created. Note that you will need a master password which can be set by editting the eventpublisher.cgi file and is upoint by default. 4. If all is set correctly you should be good. Good luck.

Glad that did the trick. Plus I discovered a new program. I may use it in the future. When I saw your message I had just come home from a l o n g day at school and felt like doing something besides grade papers or do paperwork so I figured that would be as good of a diversion as any. If you find something good to beat your head against, let me know. I've needed to do the same many times.

Hi, Devynn. I downloaded NewsPro and tried installing on my site just to see how it works. I installed to a directory called newspro in my public_html directory. I got the same error you described. I did check to see that the permissions set on the directories and files mentioned in the readme.txt matched exactly. I made the changes to the newspro.cgi as seen below(in blue): I still got the Internal Error message so I checked my error log and there was something in there about the directory being writable by others. I then changed the permissions for the newspro directory to 755 and tried again. This time it worked. You might try it and see how it works for you.

I installed a couple of Invision Boards on here before the DNS had propagated and have had no problems that seemed to be related to the install. I did have problems in trying to restore a backup of a board from another host. I was using a different skin than the default and that caused me to not be able to get into the admin panel. I added a user and went into phpMyAdmin and gave admin rights to that user and was able to straighten everything out. Starting fresh on here should go smoothly and InVision certainly is easy to install.

It appears so. The process I described works so it appears you have to unzip them. Some other boards work differently but that's the way PHPBB seems to work. www.phpbb.com has lot's of info on running the board.

I installed PHPBB on my host and played with it a bit. I went to phpthemes.com and downloaded a theme to try. It's really pretty easy to install a new theme but is a little different than the process in Invision Board. After you download the zip file with the theme you want, unzip it to your hard drive. I unzipped it to a directory called skins. It should unzip to a subdirectory in that directory called by whatever the name of the theme was. Upload that directory into the templates directory within your phpbb directory. Then go to the admin program (www.******/boarddirectory/admin should get you there) and choose Add in the Styles Admin menu. The new theme should be listed and you can choose install link beside the name to finish the installation. To make the new theme your default for the board go to General Admin and select it from the drop down menu. To make it the only option select yes for Override user style. Have fun.
