I find it strange that Mozilla still didn't say anything about this... :|

The problem seems to be that you're including login_for.php in the middle of the HTML, which means that when you call session_start(), some HTML code has already been sent to the browser. The session handling code needs to be the first thing on the page (or you could use buffered output but I don't think you want/should go that way). By the way, you're using session_register(), which is a big problem if you intend to use $_SESSION to access session variables (it's actually impossible, not just a big problem). Instead of using session_register, you should use $_SESSION. For example, if you want to register a session variable named "var", you'd write this: $_SESSION['var'] = "variable value here"; instead of $var = "variable value here"; session_register("var");

Thanks, Thomas!

Phillip, TCH installed the updated PHP version as soon as it came out No need to worry about that, the admin crew is always on top of this stuff and they know what they're doing. You can relax, TCH's servers are safe from that problem EDIT: Oh, by the way, Zend Optimizer had nothing to do with phpBB instalations being hacked. That was a security problem in PHP itself. Zend Optimizer would raise problems if it was an older version, which didn't work well with PHP 4.3.10. TCH already has the latest (2.5.7) Zend Optimizer version installed, so no need to worry about that part, either

I never used Slash but I know it's a complex beast. I don't know if it needs root to be installed, though... Moving for organization.

Agree 120%... :|

Humm.... sorry about that. That site (ibforums) used to be a great resource for finding IPB stuff. Guess that now that IPB is no longer free, they decided to cut people off from any free resources, too... too bad, they could win a lot of customers (people using IPB 1.3 who would upgrade to 2.0) but this way it's more likely they'll lose them, by trying to force them to upgrade... :\

I actually thought of that (short tags) as a possible source of the problem but after checking my account's phpinfo() output, I saw short_open_tag is turned on, so that shouldn't be a problem... I'm guessing your server has short_open_tag turned off. Either that, or you just discovered a bug in PHP

Yes, I think they did. I also think Chillisoft ASP never really took off. Don't know why, though.

Try adding error_reporting(E_ALL); to the top of the script and see if it spits any errors.
-
Xaq, I don't think that having the variables in there will do anything, because they will not be passed into PHP like they would if you had them in an URL. You'll need to declare those variables before the include() and use them inside that script. Try something like: ><?php $forum_id = 3; $post_count = 7; include("include.php"); ?> Note that if you're accessing those URL variables with $_GET (as you should ), you'll need to change that and use only the variable names. I'm not sure if you have to declare them as global before using them or not, but try it and you'll find out

I'm sure there's already some code laying around the net to do what you want. Try http://ibforums.com

Erisande, if you want to see the errors, you may want to put error_reporting(E_ALL); at the top of the script.

I still have a few, if anyone's interested.

There's also that Chillisoft ASP, or whatever it's called. It's an implementation of ASP for Apache.

Rob, try searching tucows for backup software. I used to find a lot of good software there.

From Slashdot:

Last night, on the 24th, I sent this e-mail to all my friends and family (actually, it was in Portuguese but I translated it ). I'm sharing it here today with you guys, in the hope it inspires you —- My friends, in this season it is usual to say "Happy Holidays", "Merry Christmas", etc. This year I won't do any of that. That's right, I'm not wishing a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to anyone... nothing! Instead, I'll give you something to think about: why is it that most people only wish good things for each other and have that kind and generous behaviour (the "Christmas spirit") during this season? To me, that doesn't make sense and I may even consider it a little hypocrite. I know that during the other days, people don't wish bad things for each other but is it really that difficult to keep that "Christmas spirit" alive during the rest of the year? I think not And that's the message I'd like to pass to you. I am not going to wish you a Merry Christmas because I rather that you live every day with that kind and generous behaviour. The time we spend on this beautiful planet is so short that we shouldn't waste it on fights, wars and discussions, no matter how big or small they are. Use the time you have to be with the ones you love and to do what you really want. The day will come when you will not be able to do so, so you should do it while you can! Think about it when somebody invites you, for examplo, to the next birthday party. Ask yourselves why is it that people who call themselves friends need to have an excuse, such as a birthday, in order to get together and share some happiness. Throuw parties, meet with your friends even if it is for just half an hour, don't go out only to the disco at night, there are lots of beautiful places to see during the day (and you won't damage your hearing or your lungs ), go visit that friend that you haven't seen in a long time, adopt an abandoned animal, give food and clothing to the needed people, buy someone a present even if it's not that person's birthday... there are so many things that you can do to keep the Christmas spirit during all year! Although there's no presents or traditional Christmas sweets/candies/cakes all year, if you really want to keep that kindness and generosity flame burning inside you... you can do it! Try... you'll see the difference! As for me, I wish everyone to be very happy and in good health, all days of the year! Hugs and kisses, Raul

I was going to suggest Bruce's approach because I also did that a few years ago. I'm not sure if there's any advantage in using a backup tool unless you want to specify complex file filters or something like that - which may well be the case, so you're probably better off with a backup program. Unfortunately, I never used any GUI backup tool besides Windows backup tool itself, so I can't be of much help... :\

Before trying to login into KDE, get into a console (hit Ctrl+Alt+F1), login and delete the .ICEauthority file. Then go back to X (hit Ctrl+Alt+F7) and try logging in. That happened to me a few times with Gnome and that's what I do to solve it. I never figured out what causes the problem but I found that solution. Hope it helps. If it doesn't, let me know and we'll try something different.

21.2%? Hmmm... although I want that to be the truth, I find it a little hard to believe. If they're talking about geeks and power users, then OK, I believe it (although in that case I'd find it a rather low number and would be disappointed) but if they're talking about the general internet user... I don't know... as I said, I'd like it to be truth but...
