  1. So I was thinking about messing around with Slash for a project I'm working on. I looked at its installation guide. I know I don't have to worry about MySQL or Perl or any of that, but I'm still guessing that I would need root to have a remote possibility of making Slash work. If anyone can confirm or contradict this from firsthand knowledge, I'd appreciate it, because I really don't want to trial-and-error this one. :s Thanks, SFT
  2. IPB 2.0 == Fantastic. That they pulled a SixApart and started charging on release day with (so far as I could tell) no indication that they were reneging on their "There'll always be the free version" beforehand == bad bad bad. SFT *disgruntled @ IPS*
  3. Not to be a zealot, but shame on y'all for putting your navigation in a Flash movie. People without Flash? Screwed. People with screen readers? Screwed. People who need to scale up the text size? Screwed. (My vision's fine and the nav was hard to read for me.) People who just want to have the usual middle-click/right-click/shift-click/option-click options on links? Screwed, screwed, screwed. Not to mention the general lack of usability of the rest of the front page. To wit: A big paragraph about the forum without a link to it. All the important text about the plans in images, in tiny print. Again, I don't want to sound like a zealot. (I think Jakob Nielsen is a bit of a wacko, too.) The page is mostly aesthetically pretty. But the problems I mentioned were ones that actually affected my first visit to the redesigned site. And I'm already a customer. Please, please, please. I love TCH. The new website is NOT helping its business. The old website was a little ugly, and it needed some work in the usability department, too. But it was way more usable than this. You can keep a lot of the stuff about the general layout; I'm sure you paid a bit for it. But ditch the Flash navigation (or all of it --- even the animated logo is more annoying than pretty). Put links in logical places. Make the important text easy to read. Make it possible to make it all bigger. CSSify the layout and the image text while you're at it. Please. I'll help. Really. SFT
  4. It's Wednesday throughout almost the entire world..! *antsy*
  5. Hey, I found some old threads mentioning that TCH has Python running. However, a test script I tried throws a 500. Does TCH support Python? If so, what's the path? I was trying /usr/bin/python. Thanks! SFT (Edit: I'm on Server 77, for whatever that's worth. )
  6. I've seen this mentioned roundaboutly in a couple of other threads, so I wanted to clarify --- Is it correct to say that the "Download/Generate full backup" feature in cPanel is, for the most part, useless? Impossible to restore directly from? Because I just restored my backup from my previous evil host, and I was piqued to see that while it created a nice backup directory in my root with all the backup files, it failed to actually restore the stuff. I'm going to have to do all the individual component backups manually, eh? SFT (By the way --- I could swear I'd posted here before, but I can't find my old post, so hi! I'm a refugee from an evil, human-free hosting company, and I was delighted to find a hosting company with better prices and better reliability and human beings at the helm. ) Edit TCH_Rob: Please do not link to other hosting companies. Ergh, sorry! I was trying to make a "don't go here!" statement, but yeah, sorry.
