E-mail Forwarded From Another Domain
abinidi replied to Craig Be Rio 1's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I've done exactly what you describe. I have two domain names that I purchased from GoDaddy. I point both of them at the same nameservers (provided in your TCH welcome e-mail), then I chose one to be the "main" domain and one to be the "parked" domain (if you have an account already at TCH, which you do, then it makes the most sense to have your existing domain be the "main" domain and the new one be the "parked" domain). Once the nameservers are resolving properly to TCH (usually about 24-48 hours) THEN you can post a ticket to the help desk, asking them to park the domain on your account. They can't help you until the nameservers are resolving to TCH. This works really well. When you ask the TCH techs to park the domain (after it is resolving) they can set it up in a matter of minutes. Good luck! -
I understand the frustration, Susan. However, you don't do yourself a favor by leaving your username for your one of your accounts directly below the post where you give the URLs for your sites. Probably you (or a moderator) should edit your post to say something like "My name is Susan Dennis and one of my accounts has a name that is a derivative of my given name." That identifies what you believe to be the problem, without compromising the security of your account -- one of the very reasons the computer-generated account names are helpful!

Is TCH getting bought out? or merging with some other company? Gosh I hope not.....

So is there an expected date and time for the announcement? How soon is "very soon"? 8 days? 10 days? 30 days? Can you give us a hint here?

More storage space? (Oh wait. You already did that.) More bandwith? (Oh yeah. Did that too.) Fantastico for free? (Do you see where this is going?) RAID arrays on many servers? (Oh yeah) What's left??????

Thanks everybody. If you are interested, I'm writing a post for my blog. That is where I'll have the most updated information (link in sig, hosted by TCH). But I'll be sure to update this thread with some info too. Here is a pic of the two of us:

Hello fellow TCH-ers, Just a quick note. I haven't been as active in the forums of late, in part because we were expecting a baby in our family. And that baby has arrived, and to our great surprise, it is a baby BOY! The ultrasonographer at week 20 was certain it was a girl, and we've been planning accordingly. However, after my wife went into labor on Friday and had to do a c-section, we were in the operating room, and they pulled out the head first, and then the body. As they were carrying the baby over to the nursery side of the OR, I saw between the little legs, and I said, "Is that a BOY?" The doctor said, "Yep! It's a boy!" And I said, "Did you pull out the right baby? We're expecting a GIRL!" Baby is doing okay, but not fantastic. He has an infection, and will continue to need antibiotics. He is having a hard time breathing, and his heart rate is being affected by his infection. The x-rays on his lungs showed a bit of infection in the corner of one of his lungs, but they are taking good care of him. He has to stay in the nursery; they won't even let him out to feed, so we have to head down to the nursery every couple of hours. I was lucky enough to find a connection to the internet here in the hospital (Thank goodness for WiFi). The baby boy's name is Nathaniel, which means "Gift from God." He truly is a gift from God. He is lucky to have lived through birth. Not so many years ago, and he probably wouldn't have made it. Even considering the marvels of modern medicine, if a couple of things hadn't gone just right, we could have been in big trouble. It turns out that the umbilical cord was not implanted in the placenta (which had calcified ). Instead, it had implanted in the membrane (bag of waters), and the last three or four inches of the cord wasn't protected by the jelly cord stuff like it was supposed to be; instead there were just the two arteries free-floating. I can't tell you how many ways that might have gone wrong, with potentially fatal consequences for both mom and baby (but especially baby). So we are counting our blessings, recognizing how lucky and blessed we are to have a happy, mostly-healthy-baby boy. Mom is doing well; she's tired, but recovering well. Anyway, just wanted to share the news. Happy Holidays to all of you at TCH. I'll write back when I can.

You could consider using Gmail for your business account. You can even set up Gmail to be the default mail handler for your domain, while keeping your hosting here at TCH. I have it set up on a couple of my domains; I log in to a Google page and when I send and receive mail, it is through my TCH-hosted domain, but Google hosts the e-mail. Google does a good job of taking care of SPAM for me, and with 2GB of storage space, you should be able to store as many messages as you want.

Be careful with the simple version when you are using a WYSIWYG editor. Often, you can save the simple HTML like you intend, but the next time you open the page, it will have converted it to plain-text, so if you save a second time, you might lose the obfuscation effect. I've had this happen a couple of times. I think it was with Dreamweaver. Also a couple of online editors like for my blog. Anyway, just a reminder that if you use the simple version, it can get un-done if you don't pay close attention.

Just a quick plug for SpamKarma. Its caught more than 20,000 spams on my blog since I installed it. Do you realize how much time that has saved me!!! Wow. I love SpamKarma. I seriously need to make a donation to the person who wrote it.

Thanks, Andy. I do backup my blog daily. But I back it up on my server. I need to figure out an off-server backup procedure, because backing it up on the server doesn't do any good when the server has trouble. (My current server-backup plan is designed to keep a backup in case the database gets corrupted.)

Of course, after I ask the question, I find the answer. I'll include it for those of you who might be interested in the future. I logged in to Technorati, and looked at my blog. I could see the tags I used most recently. I clicked on the tag that was the category of my post (I use WordPress). The post was shown. I could then click the "show details" link. The full text was shown in a pop-up window. Anyway, I got the full-text of the post.

Hey everybody. Hope those of you who had Thanksgiving this week had a great one. My server, 40, had a bad day on Wednesday, and now I'm missing a post I made Wednesday evening. I opened a ticket and they said they can't help me. However, my post got pinged by Technorati, and they have the post on their site. I can search by terms in the post, and the sentence containing the term is shown. So I know Technorati has the full-text of my post. I just can't figure out how to make Technorati show the full text. Does anybody know how I can get Technorati to show me the full text of the post from their cache? I'm really sad to have lost the post I made. Thanks.

Are you talking about vertical alignment (top to bottom on the screen), horizontal alignment (left to right on the screen), or both?
-
Someone from TCH will reply about the TCH-related part of your question. However, I wanted to point out that the ticket system used by TCH marks the issue "closed" anytime a TCH employee responds. So while they are waiting for your response, the ticket is "closed". This allows them to search for "open" tickets -- meaning tickets for which they can do something. Just because a ticket is "closed" doesn't mean TCH thinks the issue is necessarily "resolved." If it is "closed" they may simply be waiting for a response from you. Good luck getting your stuff figured out.

I just joined the Linux world last week. I started with Ubutntu, but I couldn't get the libraries I needed to run the Linux version of my company's application, so yesterday I downloaded Fedora Core 5 and installed it this morning. Here's the sweet thing: My desktop dual boots Fedora Core 5 and Windows XP. My laptop (which splits its screen onto a dual monitor) is running WinXP. I installed Synergy (open source; check out sourceforge.com for info) on both my desktop and my laptop, so I have three screens from two separate computers and only one mouse and keyboard. When move my mouse off my Windows screen towards my Linux screen, the mouse rolls over onto the Linux box and the keyboard and mouse work on that machine. When I move it back to the left, it rolls back onto the Windows box. It works for both my Linux and Windows boots. I absolutely love it. Now I need to learn more about Linux (Fedora in particular). (Note: I recognize that Fedora Core 6 was released today; however, we aren't supporting it yet with our app, so I won't upgrade to core 6 until we do.)

Welcome to the forums. I hope we answered your questions. If you have more, don't be afraid to ask. We love to help.

Yeah 301 redirects are page-based redirects. Mail connects in a different way. So 301 redirects don't affect mail in any way. If you want to redirect mail, you have to use a different method. Welcome to the forums!!

I may be coming to this discussion a bit late (sorry), but I'd do something totally different from the questionable site you mention. If you can, try abreviating one of the words in your friend's business name with a common abbreviation, or try using initals for one of the words or something. Maybe you could do a domain name that deals with the type of product/service that your friend sells. So if I had a brick-and-mortar shop called Abinidi's and I sold computers, I might go with abinidiscomputers.com. If I were in your shoes, I'd do something totally different than the questionable URL, if you don't want people stumbling on the wrong site by accident. If I thought my online business might do better than my brick-and-mortar shop, I'd even consider changing the business name to get a goot TLD name. That last step is probably too dramatic for most people, but if you are going to make enough money off yoru online business, it might be worth it.

Its happened to me before too. You hit your forehead and say DOH! Yeah. Been there. It's okay! We don't mind. Well, I don't mind, at least, even if I can't speak for others. Sometimes I just need people to remind me of the obvious.
-
Not that I'm adding to this discussion in any way, but as I was reading through this thread, I thought to myself, "Wow. Another reason why I love being a TCH customer." This forum is great!!! YOU are all what makes it great!

Thanks for the reply, Dick!

Come to think of it, that's more expensive than a month's webhosting! Where does the tooth fairy come up with such cash? Maybe Google's Adwords? <grin>
