  1. The most I ever had was about 10. Now I'm down to 6. Next month it will be 5. Which reminds me, I need to contact the help desk about the expiring one.... /* Paul goes off to visit the help desk.
  2. Due to the security concerns related to IPB 1.2, I'm kind of surprised that TCH continues to allow cPanel to install it.... I'm glad you moved away from it. You'll probably be much happier with SMF. It is very powerful and gives you a lot of control over the product. Plus, upgrades can be completed by clicking a few buttons in the SMF admin control panel. That's pretty darn cool. Let this be another reminder to any remaining IPB 1.x forum administrators: use at your own risk, but you probably ought not use it at all!! There are better free options out there!
  3. he grabbed one of the bass in his boat, looked at the alligator, looked back at the bass, back at the alligator, then back at the bass, and said to himself, "Is it worth it?". Without further ado, Bill decided to....
  4. Hey Javaguy, I've seen similar behavior when I initially installed a piece of software using the cPanel link, but then updated the software manually. cPanel doesn't CHECK your installation to know what version is currently running. It just knows what version it installed. My guess is that maybe you got out of synch this way. If not, then maybe the newest installation is available on your cPanel, but for some reason the cPanel folks didn't renumber the newest installation by accident. Best wishes!
  5. It turns out that Mailman needed to be restarted. The help desk does it again! Tim, what is Dada Mail? Would converstion be seamless? What is better about it?
  6. I'm wondering if this is has to do with server configurations, so I've submitted a help desk ticket. As it sits right now, nobody can subscribe to the list either through e-mail commands, or through the web-based interface. The only way to manage users, then, is to log in to as the admin and manually add users to the list. Anyway, I'm checking with the help desk to see if this is due to server configuration or what. As always, if you have non-server related ideas of what I might try, please let me know.

  8. [Here is the story so far...] once upon a time there was a web hosting company who always tried to do the best for its customers. It started as an idea by a young bass fisherman who needed extra money to buy a big bass boat. He attempted to sell the Bass to his freinds, that didn't work, so he decided to sell his friends to the bass. The Bass Didnt like his freinds so deciced to go back to the ocean, with the money still in hand, well fin, Then he had the most Brilliant idea, that idea was to become a hip-hop legend. He started up a busness in, rap music, graffiti, and break dancing. then called on his friends to build him a website, where he could sell his records and other thing, They charged him an outrageous amount of money, So he thought a little bit about it and decided he was going to host on a TotalChoice server. And you wouldn't believe what happened, he. managed to stir up quite a lot of interest, and eventually.... once upon a time there was a web hosting company who always tried to do the best for its customers. who always tried to do the best for its customers. And you wouldn't believe what happened, he. managed to stir up quite a lot of interest, and eventually was able to take over TCH, and become the Head Guru, then he woke up from the dream, realizing there is only one Head Guru. Because of the overall response, he was able to buy a HUGE bass boat, as well as a smaller bass boat [so he]. Then one of his friends from TCH wanted to rent one of his boats, to do some bass fishing, so he thought, Hmmmm, maybe I'll start a Bass fishing boat rental service, so he went to the bank to inquire about a loan. The loan officer said "are you out of your mind???", to which he replied, "Nope. I'm just a bass-fisherman with a dream." Then the loan officer remembered saying the same thing, when he got his first loan, so he told the young bass fisherman, ok you got it, then he went out and bought the best bass fishing boat he could get. Then, there was "the accident." This involved a large net, 40 ft of fishing wire and a big sea bass, this was nothing like sega bass fishing for the dreamcast. Here's what happened: the young bass fisherman (whose name, by the way, was Bill), was launching his new fishing boat into the lake when much to his surprise the boat sprung a leak but Bill was a great swimmer, so he jumped in the boat, and took off his shirt, and plugged the hole, and started to bail out the water with a can, that was floating around in the boat, then he saw the alligator. "I knew I shouldn't have gone to the Florida Everglades" he said woefully.

  10. Hey TCH-ers, I've set up a Mailman list for my extended family, however Mailman doesn't seem to be accepting or responding in any way to e-mail commands; you know, e-mail sent commands to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. I've looked at every setting in the setup that I can think of. Does anybody else have a suggestion as to why my email commands simply aren't working at all? Thanks,
  11. Cool. Good luck. If you need any help, let us know!

  13. Caueh, I think that what you want to accomplish would be best accomplished by editing your .htaccess file. Your .htaccess file allows you to change how users are redirected to various parts of your site, even such that directories shown in the URL aren't truly the ones that exist on the server. I, however, am not an .htaccess guru. Maybe TCH-David or another of our .htaccess gurus can chime in to this discussion to let you know how you would modify your .htaccess file to accomplish what you are attempting to do. Good luck! PS: I notice that you are from São Paulo. I lived in Zona Norte in São Paulo for a couple of years in the late 90s. I loved it there! You live in a very beautiful part of the world

  15. Caueh, Did Jim's answer help? Let us know if we can be of further assistance.
  16. Thoughs of "best wishes" and "get well" to your beautiful dog, Tim.
  17. Bob is right, FilmBuff. You aren't allowed to host multiple sites, or have domain names point to your subdomains if you don't have a reseller account. Note, however that reseller accounts are allowed to do this. If you have a reseller account and you have questions about using it with multiple domains, then you might post a question in the resellers forum, as there are many TCH customers in that forum who can help you. Best wishes.
  18. Caueh, Welcome to the TCH forums. Glad you got the answer you were looking for. If you need help in the future, don't be afraid to ask! GvilleRick, Welcome to the TCH forums!! Thanks for your input!

  22. Hi guy! Welcome to the TCH forums. If you are a TotalChoice Hosting customer, you can do as Steve suggests, and open a ticket with the TCH help desk. If you aren't a TCH customer, then you'd have to check with your webhost. However, I got some email just like that on my domain yesterday. The headers were faked to make it look like they came from my TCH server. I submitted the messages to the TCH help desk, and they checked in to it and assurred me that my account had not bee compromised. Some SPAMMER just spoofed my information and headers into the message. You're probably okay. Chances are your email hasn't been compromised. But if you are unsure, you should check with your webhost's help desk. And if you aren't hosting at TCH, then you should!!! Best wishes.
  23. Well, if you backup your Wordpress installation directory, and you back up your database, then if something goes awry, then you can always just delete the newer db and wordpress installation, and restore both from the backups. To back up your database, go to your cPanel screen and click on the Backup icon. Then use the second option, "Download a MySQL Database Backup". Click on the name of your blog's database. You'll be prompted to save the file to your local machine. To backup your wordpress files, FTP to your account, and download the entire directory of your WordPress installation. If anything goes wrong, you'll have all the files to restore your installation exactly how it is running today. Chances are good that your blog will continue functioning as you want. I have a custom-designed WordPress theme, and my upgrade from the 1.5 line to the 2.0 line was seamless, even for my theme. Incremental 2.0 line releases are unlikley to break your theme, but make backups, just in case!! If worst ever comes to worst, you can ask the help deskt to restore your blog folder and database from the most recent backup, but that backup might be older than you'd like, so making your own backups before upgrading is always the best policy.
  24. Gary, welcome to the family and forums. I know this isn't a site review thread, but I have to say that after perusing your site, I can't figure out what you are trying to sell. I mean, it sounds like I might purchase a blog entry from you? Am I purchasing articles to read or to republish on my site? Maybe I'm just not familiar with your industry. Hmmm... I'm stymied.
  25. are you connecting behind a router? I think there are IP address implications for connecting to a computer via Remote Desktop if your IP address is being masked by your router. Maybe somebody else can shed some light here?
