  1. I'm still relatively new to WP, but not new enough that I don't need to already do an update to the new 2.6 version. (I think they rolled it out about a week or two after I started with 2.5... ) My question about updating is this- When I FTP the new version, will it overwrite or delete any of the themes or plugins I already have installed? I have modified slightly the theme I'm using and would hate to have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch. Thanks...
  2. Arg, can't seem to find the the .htaccess file and I've searched all through the WP directory. Any thoughts where it should be? Thanks.
  3. I'd do that through my cPanel, correct? (I'm at work right now, so I won't be able to try this until I get home this afternoon...)
  4. I'm running WP 2.5.1 I have a flash file that is about 18M that I want to upload. However, when I try, I get an error which reads "This file is too big. Your php.ini upload_max_filesize is 2M." I've been through all the control pages, but I can't seem to find where to increase the filesize maximum. Any thoughts?
  5. OK, I was able to make my modifications using a text editor and then upload them. (What an educational weekend this has been!) However, I have stumbled across another problem. When I went to create a new post, I wanted to add in a picture. With Blogger, I would pick the picture from my laptop and publish it to a folder on my site. I tried to do that with WP, but got the following error- "Unable to create directory /home/"cpanel User ID"/public_html/FBOLNewsreel/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/06. Is its parent directory writable by the server?" I replaced my real user id with "cpanel User ID". Do I still have to change those file permissions for index and css? If so, can you recommend a good freeware FTP program? My continued thanks...
  6. Thanks for the advice. I got everything installed OK, though I used FrontPage instead of Fantastico. (I'm just more comfortable with FP after 6 years of use...) Good news is that if you register your other writers, when you import a multiwriter blog, WP will let you assign each author to their old Blogger posts! I only have one question. I've found a theme that I like, but want to tweak it just a bit. (add stuff into the footer, remove one small thing out of the header, drop some code into one of the sidebars...) To allow FP to edit the themes the site's instructions read- However, when I try to right click on index.php, either in its original website diretory on my harddrive or in the FrontPage publishing window, I don't get a "File Permissions" option. What am I doing wrong?
  7. OK... This latest screwup with Blogger publishing (or in this case, NOT publishing) via FTP has me ticked, but good. I am seriously thinking about changing from Blogger to Wordpress, but have a couple of questions for anyone who might have traveled this road before me. 1) How easy is the installation on to the server for a someone with only a bare amount of tech knowledge/skills? I've read some of the installation instructions and they don't seem too complicated.... 2) I currently host my blog at http://www.filmbuffonline.com/FilmBuffNewsreel.htm. Can I still use that or should I set up a subdomain like Newsreel.FilmBuffOnLine.com? 3) In addition to myself, I have to two contributors to the blog. What happens to their posts during migration from Blogger to WP?Do I need to have them become registered with the new Wordpress version before I migrate? Thanks. GAH! Just noticed a WordPress subforum. feel free to move thread there... *embarassed*
  8. This past week, I went through the process of changing my URL registration from one registrar to another. (Mainly a financial move) It transfer was approved yesterday and I updated the A record with the new registrar. The change seems to have propogated, but when I try to get to the site's subdomain, I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error. Any thoughts?
  9. My site (FilmBuffOnLine.com) is hosted through TotalChoice. Recently, I acquired another website (TheBlob.info), which I have folded into my own. I want people who click on any link for TheBlob.info to be directed directly to the main page my site. I went to the registrar of TheBlob.info (DomainTK) and reset the A Record to the same setting as the one supplied by my FilmBuffOnLine registrar. However, after giving things about 24 hours to propagate out, if I go to TheBlob.info all I get is a cPanel error page stating that “There is no website configured at this address.” Since you guys use cPanel, I’m thinking there is some fault on your end. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? Thanks!
  10. Thanks. I submitted a ticket, hopped in the shower and there was an answer waiting for me by the time I toweled off! Thanks all!
  11. My site's Awstats hasn't updated since 15 Jun 2006 - 21:39. (The site is on server 57.) Yet oddly enough, there's info showing under the "Latest Visitors" link. Is there some problem?
  12. OK... I think I have this figured out. And I don't want to drop additional $ at this time to set myself up as a reseller. I'll just point the old site towards my mainsite and set up a link to the subdomain on my index page.
