Excellent ideas folks! I like them too, for what it's worth. Anyone else? When we have given everyone a chance perhaps we can combine these into a new forums format. (I'm not speaking for TCH though. This would have to be approved by Bill first, of course!) It's great to have your suggestions so we can see what you mean exactly. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments. Compliant with standards, eh? What a concept! Now if we can only get the browsers on board...

Hi folks, I know several of you have the MX version of DW and wondered if you'd share with me your opinions of whether the upgrade is worth it. I know all the hype they have on the MM site but I want to get the scoop from my family - is it worth it to upgrade?
-
Indeed you did and it was a good one too. For those who don't want to click away, the suggestion was to 1. make the subjects obvious, not just "Help me" and 2. to organize by generic Topics. What I meant was that many have said "I don't know where to post this" but few have said "I would like to see a forum topic under Web Design and Optimization for people who want to bash Google's brains out called 'Bash Google'". By the way, you didn't say anything wrong, I was just clarifying that we do care more about our customers than it seems. I was not offended or upset by your comment in any way. One more thing, thanks for being brave enough to express your opinions! The only way we can know how our family feels about something is if they tell us.

There is nothing more important to us than our family members... and I know that's especially true for Head Guru. That's why we have the forums, live chat, help desk, IM's for most of the staff and an emergency pager system that can be called and does get signaled when the servers experience problems. As for the forums, what difference does it really make to call it Family/Open Discussion or TotalChoice Hosting Family/Open Discussion? The real point I see here is that perhaps there could be better choices for the forums we have. I myself have just recently posted in the thread about Please Post Appropriately. That post has had only one suggestion and that was for an "Anything goes" which is the Open Discussion forum by another name. We all do our best but if you have any ideas for a better forum structure, then by all means mention it. Bill and the others involved can take a look at it and see if there is anything we can use. There are other considerations when running such a business as this so they may not accept every suggestion but so far they've pretty much done everything suggested in other areas. By the way, we do not take offense at comments from someone who truly wants to make TCH better! There may be things such a person is not aware of, such as the SEO reason for naming some of the forums for example, but we are glad to hear any suggestion meant to help. Personally, I try to always follow the philosophy "If something is wrong and you feel strongly about it, maybe you're the one to do something about it. Don't just talk bad about the ones who are doing it or how poorly they are doing." So to see someone who feels strongly about it say something constructive makes me feel good, not offended. Thumbs Up

Probably the best thing to do is drop a note to Scott with your sitename. He seems pretty swamped right now but I'd bet he'll get back with you on the cost and what he does and what he expects from you, etc. Use the link on the Search Engine Optimization services page to help him keep his email box straight though.

[You're right BG - analogy rescended.] Get real - people don't listen to drivel like your anonymous and factless statement. Besides, if it were a legit gripe then why not state the problem and ask for a refund instead of the anon-hit-and-run you tried to pull off?

Bill, I've been using ClipMate for years and it's a great tool for what you want. It will either work as a regular clipboard or as a powerclip which means you mark a starting point in the history of what has been clipped, a direction and when you paste-paste-paste it moves through the list until you stop or it gets to the end. It's been a lifesaver to me and it's not expensive ($25 for d/l version). They're up to version 6.1 so it's stable too. The link is http://www.thornsoft.com/index.htm

I Once Was Leary, Now I'm Ecstatic

Welcome to the family Gina! We are family so ask when you need anything, speak when something's on your mind and most of all, have fun and don't be a stranger to the forums (in that order )! I'm glad you're happy in your new home! We're glad you are here! -
Penguin is 297.2 for me. The frizbee dawg is brutal! Eeuck! The funny thing is that as mindless as these games are, they teach things like eye-hand coordination and mouse use in the case of dawg and things like the physics of a falling object and the path it takes for the penguin. It's like when I was growing up I played a lot of pool (billiards) which, believe it or not, did help in some cases with physics when I went to college. I wonder if my table fees are tax deductible?

Tracy -- Thumbs Up You've been a great help to many folks. Congrats! -
How does changing the text color make the underline go away and not the text also? If I'm not mistaken changing the text color on all those states to the background color will make it invisible and get you banned from Google for hidden text
-
Cool! You could be the first self-generated Google PageRank 7 site out there! (It wouldn't work so don't no one get any ideas, but it's a funny thought.)
-
... and you're only saying that cuz she's a member here too! (of course, I'm kidding.) Bill, thanks for all you do! It's a pleasure to be a part of the family and an honor to be allowed to help as a mod. Thanks to you for giving this wonderful gift to all of us and thanks to your family for giving their gift to us - you. Ok, enough mush! Back to normal abnormality! Yuck!

If anyone has suggestions for new forums then feel free to post them as suggestions. There have been some new ones lately as a result of suggestions.
-
Tracy, it's our (my) pleasure. It's not like you wouldn't do it for us. Besides, what's family for!?!?
-
Hey Bunni, Welcome to the family! Scott will get your link added soon. It's cool how you use your site to keep in touch with your family. Have fun here at TCH and welcome home. If you need anything just ask!

Nope, at a glance I thought the 2nd one was a link to your music friend and clicked the 1st link. Sorry. It's much better with the music, as you say. The voices could be a bit louder though - the music drowns them out a bit. Great message too. No matter which camp one is in I think most can agree that it's best to wait until one's older and can make a more mature decision about sex.

About line 33 you have ><input type=hidden name=domains value="monarchmountaindesigns.com;naturalimagesweb.com"><br><input type=radio name=sitesearch value=""> <span class="normalText">www</span><br> <input type=radio name=sitesearch value="monarchmountaindesigns.com" checked> m<span class="normalText">onarchmountaindesigns.com</span><br><input type=radio name=sitesearch value="naturalimagesweb.com" checked> <span class="normalText">naturalimagesweb.com</span></td> <br></tr> Take out the <br> at the bottom. FWIW, I used HTML-Kit's "Check code with tidy" and it showed that br's not allowed in TR's.

Have I Tripped Off The Tch Spam Filter?
Deverill replied to dmakovec's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
There is a limit of 50 outgoing emails every 300 seconds. Some family members use Dada for mailing lists and it seems to works well. You can find it at mojo.skazat.com or simply limit the number of outgoing emails to batches of about 45 and space them out. Best wishes on a new contract! -
The problem with the Bankok IP/UK credit card was only one in verificating the identity of the user by the bank. The credit card processor threw up a flag because it seemed like a scam. I believe that was easily sorted out but I have no details on the resolution. If you get a simple or reseller account then your entire site will be on one single server. If one entire server goes down only about 1/50th of our users will be affected by it since we have over 50 servers. Your entire site will either be up or down, but the chances of even a catastrophic loss of connection with an entire DC will only have about a 1/8 chance of affecting you (I think we have 8 DCs but that may be wrong). An entire DC going down is slim. The uptime statistics are for the entire system, not just one server - that wouldn't be very honest. Check out our server uptime pages at http://www.tchstatus.com/index.html to see uptimes, current issues if any, bandwidth stats by server, etc.

You'll need to submit a helpdesk ticket at the link on the top of the forums pages. You'll also need your credit card number you used to sign up and the zip code for security reasons. The guys there will fix you right up.

One thing you could do is set up a CSS thing (sorry, it's nothing I've created yet) that presents a different look for printed pages. This is what's behind most of the "Format for printer" links on some pages like my bank does. With that you could totally change the whole thing to say a message like you mention.

Got Any Room In The Family If So Please Add Me.
Deverill replied to The Wild One's topic in Add Me to the Family
Black and orange is hard to make work but you've done a good job with it. Nice site! The only thing wrong with it is that you don't have anything about Key West. You need to come down for the poker run or bike week - they're pretty popular for a little 4x2 mile island. Best wishes on filling out the site and getting it rolling. -
Very powerful ad, Timur... great work! Thumbs Up I followed your last link but ended up at the same file with no music and the grammar mistake.
