There may be a setting in your ftp program to show hidden files too. I've not used flashfxp, though, so I can't tell you where it would be.

Sorry, I don't have the experience in FP to help on this one. Perhaps browsing or posting in a FrontPage support forum would help? Of course, someone here may come along and help too so don't give up on this forum yet - we have several FP users that are active here.

Dag, HG, there're more tests here than there were in high school!

TCH is the best host I've ever used!

Welcome home and thanks for the kind words! -
Tonsa, You have to ask yourself these questions: 1. Does the way I use my computer really fragment memory that much? If you open and close a bunch of programs all day long then maybe. 2. How much benefit will I get by reclaiming the memory? This is related to #1. The more fragmented it becomes the more benefit you may enjoy. 3. Does the defragger program operate fast enough to outweigh the fragmented memory? If the program takes a lot of CPU time to keep things nice and your savings are small then the net effect will be to slow you down to use it. My habits pretty much dictate that such a program is definitely not worth it for me, but you may be different.

Welcome Digizone, You have complete access to your .htaccess files in any of your domains hosted here. You can set up a master one for the whole site or set up a different one in every subfolder... your choice.

The popups are definitely not because of moving to TotalChoice Hosting. Larry's right in that it is probably a spyware program that has hijacked your browser. Another program that is popular is spybot which can be found on the search engines. It is the one I prefer because it can actually block a lot of spyware programs instead of just looking for them after they get on your system. If you have your email address on a webpage you can plan to get spammed - those guys are evil and will grab anything that looks like an address from any webpage they can find. Make sure spam assassin is turned on in your cpanel - that should help.

Hi Wayne, Don't forget that you can install your own package of whichever version you choose if you don't mind reading the install instructions and doing some non-trivial steps. It's not terribly difficult though so you may want to give it a go.

I don't use FP any more but it sounds like there is a file where FP stores the passwords but it can not identify it as its own file. In other words, the password file is not in a format FP recognizes so it gives up. I know it's not much help but hopefully it will get you in the right direction.

No, it wouldn't stop a site-grabber or a copy and paste. If someone can read your book they can copy it. The trick for you is to make it as difficult as possible. Most e-books are done in a small downloadable program that basically encrypts them and requires a registration code to make them viewable... but any legitimate purchaser of your book could then copy it even then if they have enough desire to. The real key is the same as cryptography - make it difficult enough to copy it that the contents are not worth the effort and you're "mostly safe."

But if you take that approach you're gonna need a whole heck of a lot of water - otherwise the polutions can still get ya. All I know is that if God didn't want us to eat animals He wouldn't have made them taste like meat.

Rob, Don't forget that to know what's in your food you have to grow your own food, fertilizer, keep the stock in a self-contained bubble to keep out bad things in the air... There is no way we can think that we know what's in our food. Too bad too - it used to be that you could just go out to the garden or barn and get your food.

That is way cool, but way scary too! I went looking for one of my sites that's been #1 on google for years and couldn't find it! Thanks for the link!

A backlink is considered relevand if the linking page has a Google PageRank above a certain threshold which I think is 3 but am not sure of that. Apparently Google thinks the pages that link to you are not themselves very popular (which is a vastly oversimplified way to consider pagerank.)

Check the installation instructions. I vaguely remember having to set the avatar folder and everything in/under it to a certain permissions but don't remember the details.

Boojum, Three points and I'm done. 1. You said "We have made some laudable strides in reducing such emissions, and these are credited with slowing and partially reversing the damage." to which I have to ask "How do we know? How can we be sure it is that which is reversing the damage or some other influence we don't know about? Ozone is created by the sun, perhaps the recent solar insanity has restored it or perhaps it's something we don't know anything about like moose farts in Alaska." 2. You said that a belief in a diety is a matter of faith. My point exactly. To believe in something you can't prove is faith. We can not prove that there is no God fixing the planet so to believe that is faith. To believe that there is nothing else influencing the ozone than our efforts and damaging behaviour and that global warming is our doing and we can reverse it is also not provable because of the complexity of our ecosystem and impossibility of having a closed test environment. A common scientific axiom is that you can not prove a negative... therefore most science is, in a way, faith. Just because we can't see it, believe it or prove it does not in itself prove it is not true - whatever the "it" in question is. 3. I think I'm clear on your stand and I believe I have made mine clear. Points of view are for having, not arguing, so I will respectfully defer this topic to you and everyone else to do as they wish as I choose to no longer fill the forum with these way off-topic opinions of mine - even though it is in open discussion. Peace and love.

Google question about new "Florida" ranking.
Deverill replied to Deverill's topic in Web Site Promotion
See, I knew better than to trust the news! CNN has a transcript of an interview between Al Gore and Wolf Blitzer from March 9, 1999 where they quote Gore as saying "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." To create is to bring into existance - invent is a different word but the concept is the same - the Internet was created by scientists and military interests over the years and while he has been a strong supporter of it, he did not create it. And here I am thinking that the Internet was created by thousands and thousands of folk. Silly me. -
Lianna, I'll have to find you a Florida snowman and send it to you. It's a little base with a corncob pipe, sunglasses, a top hat and eyes and a carrot nose scattered in a puddle of water.

Thanks for your help Mitch. Take care!

Selfishness, Bill. I was talking with my mom about a similar topic this weekend. It is not about right or wrong any more. It's not about what you did even. It's about how I was inconvenienced, embarassed, abused, wronged, etc. It doesn't matter who goes first or fastest ... it just matters that in my world you did something to me (see how many times "me" is in that thought?). People don't see you as a person or a family. They only see you as a thing that's causing them some kind of pain. It's a crying shame but "Do unto others" is gone - it's been replaced by "Don't let them do unto you without a fight."

Google question about new "Florida" ranking.
Deverill replied to Deverill's topic in Web Site Promotion
Hey! Since former Vice President Al Gore invented the internet, maybe he can get Google straightened out for us! Ah, but alas, it may take months of costly court battles so perhaps we should just wait for them to get it straightened out on their own. -
Please remember that "the news" is not always the same as the truth. That being said, there are some facts that are causing people concern. The shrinking ice shelves and slightly-yet-increasing temps have many upset. My stand on the issues is this: We are talking about a planet that scientists say have been here perhaps billions of years. The emissions from one volcano is more vast than what all our industrial countries produce and they've been erupting for those same billions of years. The sun varies in intensity and emissions on a cyclical schedule. Any ham radio operator knows the sunspots cycle every 11 years and it is that which affects the ozone layer. My point is that we are so insignificant in the whole picture that we can not possibly get a statistical baseline on these things. Yes, it's warmer by 1 degree but that's only records going back a second in the time of the earth. We are taking a very limited and narrow set of statistics and projecting them to a long term catastrophic end without knowing all of the influences on the situation such as the "accepted fact" that the earth has been decimated several times by ice ages, the influence of a diety, the self-healing ability of the planet and other bigger-than-us factors. I simply can't get upset over things that may not need worrying about and that I can't do much about anyway. Sorry. I am not ignorant of the situations, nor do I view my point of view as superior to yours or others, just different. I'm sorry if my joking comment about the snow offended anyone - it was not meant to but rather is just a reflection of my own take on the situation.

I just reread your original post and what I suggested won't work. I misunderstood what you were trying to do. I think the way I would attack this is to create a page at ******/mail.html that is a regular web page with a redirect to ******/sqmail and then all she has to do is go to ******/mail and click the link and log in. There may be a better way with redirects but if nothing better comes along this should work.

Hi Bill, I'll take a shot at the ones I know. Most of these can be found on the help site at Our Help Site if you have any further questions. 1. Do you have Fantastico scripts available? I'm not sure - one of the others will have to take this but I don't think so. 2. Do you do full directory backups everyday and can they be restored in the event of emergency? We take daily backups but the are only for mass restores like in the case of a server crash. We also take weekly and monthly backups that a client may request to be restored. Your data is safe in the case of a catastrophic loss but if it is a simple file deletion or something like that you may have to go back one week. 3. I had a problem with my last host when AOL blocked email from their servers. Do you ever have this problem? TotalChoice Hosting has a zero-tolerance of spam and it is at least partly for this reason. If we get legit complaints from anyone reliable about spam we will disable the account until we can figure out the problem. If it is a "misunderstanding" on the recipient's part about what is spam we may reactivate the account quickly or even not disable it if it is a one-off. Otherwise, if it is identifiable as a spam campaign the account will be permanently disabled. It is totally up to the abuse team which way it goes but the functioning of the other sites on the servers is the main concern. 4. How many IP addresses do resellers get? I am not sure. Sorry. 5. Do you have a reseller package with more storage than 2.5 GB? Our largest reseller plan has 25 GB of storage. If you need more than that it can be purchased in blocks of 10MB/$1.75 per month. We also have dedicated server plans which means you have the whole machine to yourself. Hope it helps, Thanks for considering Total Choice Hosting.
