Ah, Jayson, you put too much exact quoting there. It screams Google (cheat).

I agree with Rob on this. I will only upgrade when I get a new computer with Vista loaded on it - and may then wipe it and put linux on it. They are saying businesses may get it Nov 06 and Consumers in Jan 07

It might be fun watching him TRY.

You can do a tracert to your site the next time you have problems to see if there are any slowdowns or problems between you and it. It could just be your ISP or one of the legs along the trip from you to the site.

All other things being legit, you would not be breaking any laws unless he could prove that you were just hitting his site to cost him money... and that would take a bunch of hits, a great lawyer, a stupid judge and a bunch of luck. It's advertisement. He agreed to pay for clicks. His stupidity.

As a quick and unreliable test of the video driver theory, you could minimize the filezilla window. That usually removes video from the equasion. It's not a good test, but it may give you a quick "yep, that's it." if it does run fast minimized.

Making a threat over the telephone lines is serious. Doing it from another state is, I believe, a federal offense. As for how it could happen? If he's talking about referrals and you are on a shared server then it could be a link from any of the other sites hosted on that server. Unlimited money, phoned threats, $45 per hit - he's an idiot. By the way, if you want Tech Support to help with this you could submit a ticket and see what they can offer. Let's (us) not do anything besides that, though... we don't need some psycho gunning down TCH family members over webhits! Of course, I do advocate reporting him to he authorities though, body slams are serious business... as is any threat of bodily harm. Check with your phone company. They may have ways to log the calls and then they will usually contact the authorities with the info (but won't give you the number or anything). At least Bellsouth does - it's worth checking into and at least log the calls even if you don't act on them.

One thing, off topic a bit, about the WWW or not is that it may make a difference in search engines. If you always use WWW or always leave it off then you're fine. If you use it sometimes and don't use it at others then you may lose some points with the search engines. This applies to links to your site from others or any links within your site that use the full site name. It's a small thing but I thought I'd mention it.

Which version are you using? I did a quick search and found that 2.2.12 introduced a memory leak which is the first thing that comes to mind with "it gets progressively worse" problems. Another thing you can do is watch the mem usage in task manager while it downloads and see if it gets bigger and bigger - to confirm it is a mem thing... or even that it is filezilla and not some side effect from something else (less likely). I have portable FZ 2.2.17 here and tried it. It went from 11.2M of mem to 13.6M and then back to 13.4 for a long time. I DL'd 1871 files from my web site here. It didn't cause any CPU problems and seemed to self limit. Hope it helps!

You can do a google (or some other search engine) search on something like 'read Panasonic Model Number disks on a PC" and more precise results since you'd be including the exact model. They probably differ from machine to machine.

Watch where you put your - uh - fins, buddy!

Open a DOS window. e: (or whatever your CD is) cd \ dir /s > c:\contents.txt et voila!

That future hurricane will come so far in the future that have such advanced tech that it won't hurt anything or anyone. Except the telephone service.

You can also add a free Google Websearch box that will search only your site.

What an awesome gift, Bill! Thanks! I've never used Fantastico before but I know a lot of people here have asked for it over the years and the list of "practically one-click" installable scripts is quite impressive. Just for fun I went looking at other hosts that offer Fantastico. I found one that is set up for churches and other ministries on a budget that offers Fantastico on all packages, but the cheapest "budget" package, similar to our $4/month one, was $12/month and they limit the number of email accounts, ftps, etc. I've had 3 other hosts and they were all dismal... I'm glad I found TCH before I had to go through 30 others! I'm looking forward to really messing up my accounts with all the new features you have opened up and then figuring it all out again! This is what a "computer guy" like me lives to do! Thanks Bill! (Everyone remember, the tech guys can't support 3rd party scripts, even those provided by Fantastico. )

Sorry, hurricane Wilma wiped out Fat Albert. He's pretty cool to see and you can spot him from Key West on most days (about 20 miles). They say he's for drug interdiction but we know better.

You could move your sites to a different host. I'm sure you'll get over your unbrokenness quickly. I love having my sites here... Head Guru and his crew of techs keep this place running like a fine tuned race car. Not even any dirt and grease on the engine!

Sorry I haven't used FP in a long time, but I believe you can set up your new site's name and all that and tell FP you want to import it from a web page. If you set up both sites in FP and put them in different places on your hard drive then they will remain separate. Hopefully someone who uses FP will stop by soon if you need any more details on it... my memory has faded in that department.

Warmest spot in the continental US this morning here in Key West. Beautiful sunny weather, 79 & 80 expected highs all week. Currently 82 (28 C) with a 9mph breeze off the ocean. I may have to pay as much as $7,000 this next year in wind insurance and a hurricane may wipe me out later in the year, but for now it's great here.

According to this exerpt from an article in Slate we were not wrong! So there!

Scared in what way? I am very unhappy with the filesharing on desktop. I have a client at work that had a 2 gig desktop index file fill her hard drive so that's 2 strikes. Or do you mean fearful as in "They're giving so much and are considered the de facto standard and soon they'll be a monopoly"?

9 of 11 here. Missing the question about the desert isn't so bad since I've never been in one but missing the shark is kinda bad since they do live here and I've seen them 10 feet from shore.

81 81 82 82 80 are the temps for this week coming up. This is excellent weather. Ask me again when it's in the upper 90's and high humidity. I do know one thing - my body can't take cold like it used to so I'd be in trouble if I lived in your beautiful country, Thomas.

On the innermost table you have ><TR> <TD> left header stuff </TD> <TD> right header stuff </TD> </TR then <TR> <TD> background stuff </TD> </TR> No 2nd TD for the 2nd TR. I found a nice quick online tool at http://infohound.net/tidy/ that lets you put url's or html code snippets and it can clean it up or look for errors. It gripes if you don't have doctypes and stuff but you can ignore that if you just want quick reformatting or checking. Hope it helps!
