Some php code may not work properly when you view your site with the ip/~username given to you to view your site before the domain name is active. But you can install your own Apache server with php to debug your site on your own computer. Many of us use Xammpp Lite a quick and easy install. I do all my changes this way. If you do this and need help with it, just ask us here on the forum. Some of us have installed Xampp on a usb drive and it works great.

You can open a help desk ticket to the techs and ask them to delete the file. If the file was created by a script then only the script or the techs can delete it.

My favorite way is what Bruce said I create a zip file with files and sub folders inside upload in file manager and extract file manager will unzip and recreate the folder structure. This is the fastest way as you are uploading a single compressed file and not a bunch and extracting on the server only takes seconds.

In the admin settings look for Edit Features and Options Allow users to hide their email from everyone except admins? and Do not reveal contact details of members to guests which would include bots. So when a user registers they can hide their e-mail. But if they don't only other members can see it, not the best I agree. And the member list is hidden from guests.

Hosting is seperate from domain nmaes so yes create a new account.

When you download the zip file from the link above unzip to a folder on your computer and go into the docs folder and click on the index.html file and look at the upgrade instructions. 3.4 Upgrading from cpg1.2.0 (or better) to version cpg1.3.4

Did you try their .htaccess method from Bruce's link? it looks pretty easy to do.

If you were able to create a list before changing permissions then fine. Sometimes the folder needs to be changed for the script to be able to create files in side of it. I remember this change from earlier installs. But it looks like it is not needed anymore. If you like, change it back to 755. It looks like you are all set, congrats!
