TCH-Sales Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 I've been trying out a few products here and there in my spare time. As I was sorting through various downloaded programs I came to realize that I have become pretty reliant on Outlook Express and nothing else as a mail client. I've look around at a few alternatives but I figured this would be a good start of a conversation. What is your favorite mail client and why? I know there are probably more than a few people out there that will be willing to try something new, so share your thoughts with your fellow family members! Thumbs Up Quote
Deverill Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Mozilla Thunderbird. It's free. It's pretty feature-packed in the email areas complete with filters. It's not obese with non-email functionality. It works well with Firebird which I use almost exclusively. It's under development so improvements are inevitable. It's not a Microsoft virus-trap. Most things from MS have gaping security holes and that, quite honestly, bothers me a lot. It does everything I need. It has Bayesian spam filtering which so far seems to be working very well. (It needs a little training to learn what you consider spam.) Quote
Head Guru Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 If you deal with multiple mail accounts then Hands down PM MAIL 2000 is the best! Quote
jslagle Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I've used Eudora for several years. It's easy to configure, you avoid the virus writers who attack outlook address books and it easily handles multiple accounts. There's a free version that had an ad box in a lower corner of the display or you can upgrade to the paid version and get rid of the ad. It's available in both winders and mac versions. I'm running it on my win2000 notebook and my wife has it on her imac. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Good post Mitch. I just deleted 42000 emails from my wifes OE. I have to do it about every month. I wish there was a client that would automatically delete email at a set period of time. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I use Outlook 2k (patched to the gills of course) with a plug in called cloudmark, it blocks spam mail and send it to a spam folder, then it reports the sender back to cloudmark to be added to their spammers list, if the message isn't spam, you just click unblock and it reports back to them and removes it from the spam list. you can get it free at www.cloudmark.com I also use another program called plaxo that auto updates your address book (if the person being updated uses plaxo) Quote
LunarMagic Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I've used Eudora for the past year or two. The free version does have an ad, but it's so small I never notice it. I used Pegasus before then, but it was a bit primitive for my liking. Quote
borfast Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I use Ximian's Evolution along with Ximian Desktop 2 -> ximian.com, ximian.com/products/evolution/ and ximian.com/products/desktop/ No virus to bother me and it has a nice calendar/PM functionality too Check the screenshots Quote
greatfolios sysop Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Outlook Express for the last 6 years (still have one email in my in box from Jan '97) Quote
GroovyFish Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Outlook (currently version 2002)!! I understand all the security issues with it, but, I cannot live without it . Used it for years and never been infected with a virus or had any security problems. In a previous life I used to be email administrator for a corporation and supported about 300 Outlook Users local and remote, including training and writing a column in our quarterly newsletter pointing out cool features that Outlook has that people don't know about. Critical Mass...Outlook does have a function to archive or delete emails after a certain period of time. Definately v. 2002 (and I think the older versions do as well) Groovy Quote
