If someone has graphics turned off, there would be no reason for them to visit 13 of my pages which are, for the most part, just image galleries. So I can't imagine that being the explanation. Spiders make more sense, but why wouldn't it register the total hits on the page? I have no idea what "check the user agent" means, let alone how to do it! But here's the IP: adsl-19-3-86.asm.bellsouth.net Thanks Annie!

Because of all the images on my pages, it is typical for me to see that if a certain IP address viewed one page, there would be perhaps 15 to 18 hits. More pages, more hits in pretty much the same ratio. But sometimes I see things like one address with 13 pages and 13 hits. It seems unlikely that someone would go to 13 different pages and not let any of them load (besides, I'm not getting a high number of partial content errors). So how is this possible? VI

Microsoft Receives Patent For Double-click
Virtual Imager replied to borfast's topic in Open Discussion
Uh Oh... I see another lawsuit looming: Just saw the show Avenue Q on Broadway... they do a bit about I AM A SPAMMER on the internet... the big gag line of the song is "grab your d--- and double-click..." I have a feeling Microsoft isn't going to like that. -
Must be the altitude... I'm closer to the sun!

Well, Robert... you're preaching to the choir here. It hit 111 today in Phoenix and we haven't turned on our air conditiioners yet. We run evaporative coolers untill the dew point hits 55 degrees and they are no longer effective (usually July and August when the monsoons hit). It is a lot cheaper than air conditioning and healthier too. For those unfamiliar with "swamp coolers," they cool the air by wetting it and then blow the cooled air into the house. Of course, if the air is already wet (as in high humidity) they do absolutely nothing! You should check them out, Robert. They're pretty popular here... I don't know about Vegas. And another suggestion: move your computer to the den, Silly!!! Don't melt... we need you!

Microsoft Receives Patent For Double-click
Virtual Imager replied to borfast's topic in Open Discussion
Did you happen to check out the "Related Links" on the Slashdot page? The linked article says, among other things: "The New York-based Public Patent Foundation has filed a formal request with the US Patent and Trademark Office, asking that Microsoft's patent on this filesystem be revoked." In that quote the words "has filed" are linked to another article that includes this gem: "In the end, our beef is not with Microsoft per se," he said. "It's with our broken patent system that is completely failing to ensure only deserving patents get issued." -
Thanks, Jim. This is interesting: The official weather service advisory for Phoenix now says to drink plenty of "water or other non-alcoholic beverages." Seems that science is finally recognizing that other liquids provide the same hydrating effects as water. Makes sense since they are made up mostly of water anyway. All those guilt trips about not drinking enough water... are they about to stop?

We are under a heat advisory right now.... seems that the combo of high temps (108 degrees) and very low humidity (5 - 8%) is a health hazard as it becomes difficult for the body to cool itself. People are being warned to stay indoors if possible. Not as exciting as a tornado, but hey... this is Phoenix.

Please let us know if running AdAware or any other spyware detector solved your problem. Haven't heard of that one berfore. That is just nasty!

I like ACDSee... it can resize, do format converts, etc. (singly and in batches) and easily manage the folders as well, placing the resized images in different folders if you want. I'm not familiar with NikonView or Irfanview so I can't compare them. I've used the free version of ACDSee for a long time and it has met all my viewing, storing, and managing needs. VI

Yeah... I wasn't sure it would address this issue... just remember seeing something about timezones and thought it might be worth a look by snowjay. Oh well...

I read that AwStats has a plugin called Timezone... I'm not sure it will address the time of report given, but you might want to check it out. VI

I knew it!!! Congrats MikeJ (you big gorilla, you!) and congrats to TCH for making an excellent decision. MikeJ is always helpful. VI

I can't answer all your questions, but in Outlook if you click on View > Layout you can uncheck the box that says Show Preview Pane. VI

Thanks Arvind... I'm not a blogger, but I found the article interesting and most of the tips regarding ranking and traffic are relevant to any website. VI

Well apparently it didn't just crash... it burned too. It won't recognize the drive, won't boot... It's caught in an endless loop: Registry Corrupt, Found good registry, Install registry?, yes, registry corrupt... ad infinitum. I'm running for deep cover! Thanks anyway, guys. VI

Thanks Madman! I'll pass those on to my husband... and let you know if they worked. He's not too happy right now so I think I'll just leave them on the counter and tiptoe out the door for a while. It will be safer that way. LOL You rock, Madman... and Rock Sign VI

Hope this is the right place to post this... And I hope I can explain the problem sufficiently with my (very) limited understanding of any of this: Last night my husband (who runs Windows 98) stuck a new 256 meg memory stick into his computer which apparently wasn't supported by Win98. It crashed and lost the registry. When he restored, it used a registry from two years ago. It can't find a more recent version and none of his programs will run... Any suggestions?

We had this discussion several weeks ago: "I AM A SPAMMER Sites Hiding Behind Blogs" http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=5687 There are some good links given in that discussion to other boards and sites that also deal with the problem. I probably had a dozen I AM A SPAMMER referrers in my stats at that time. The next month (December) I had none. I thought TCH did something to block them, but apparently not... I guess I'm just lucky that they disappeared on their own. TCH-Bruce - corrected link

Re-enable Hotlink Protection?
Virtual Imager replied to Virtual Imager's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Bellringer... it's true that you have to get the setup right and allow all the right URLs and check all the right boxes... but what I think is more of a problem is that after you do, when you think everything is just hunky-dory, hotlink protection can, as Don says, just mysteriously "stop working" and you have to wait for someone to email you to tell you that they're not seeing your graphics so you can go in and disable it for a day. To me, that is the bigger problem. You might not know yourself that it's not working because you may be seeing cached pages. Mad!!! For what it's worth, I don't think I'm going to re-enable it at this time. If anything, I'll use Lisa's code and not the hotlink protection from cPanel. VI
