  1. hmmm, if you connect the printer without drivers does Win2K detect it and ask for the driver disk? If it doesnt detect it and ask for the driver disk, unhook the printer, install the drivers and then plug in the printer using the USB cable and see if it detects any new hardware. If you have access to another PC can you try installing it on it? If it works at least we know it isnt the printer. I still dont think it is the mobo, I have another pc here with the same mobo and a canon printer hooked up to it. and just for a future reffrence kinda thing, heres a forum that is dedicated to the K7S5A motherboard, lots of useful info here. K7S5A forum I did a quick search for any printer issues on the forums and came up with 0. I'll keep thinking about it, maybe I'll come up with some more options to try.
  2. I love Dell computers, if I was ever to buy another pre built computer it would be a Dell. Awesome support, they use GREAT hardware, most everything is upgradeable (other than the motherboard, they are proprietary) If you werent doing a lot of graphics work I'd say go AMD, but Intel is your best bet for that type of computing. 400MHZ DDR is great, there IS faster RAM but no motherboards that support it yet. Its 433MHZ but its basicly just overclocked 400MHZ. /drool digital flat panel monitor 128MB DDR ATI RADEON™ 9800 Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI 128AT98 AWESOME video card!! OS: I'd go with XP pro if you have that option, more control over your OS Sound Card, soundblaster cards use a LOT of system resources and generally install a lot of stuff you dont need. Does Dell offer any other options? All the other stuff I didnt mention is pretty standard and looks good. Depending on what Dell charges, personally I'd look at a bigger hard drive, but I download a lot of stuff and rip all my music CD's to MP3
  3. Thanks, I do have a question about keywords and phrases....is more better? I've been using different keyword searches with google to see if sites like mine come up and what kind of rank they have, then viewing the source code to see what keywords they use. Some use a LOT, some use very few. is there such thing as to many keywords?
  4. thought of a couple more things to try, you may have already tried but here they are anyway. 1. make sure you dont have multiple printers (of the same printer) installed. Remove them from your printer control panel AND from device manager. 2. uninstall printer completely, hardware, software everything. reinstall see if that works. 3. if it worked before you installed the latest drivers, try using an older driver. is there any activity at all when you try and print? harddrive noise, print heads aligning? if not it sounds most likely its a cable problem. Computer sees the printer but the printer isnt recieving any data. scroll down to the bottom of the printer info window in sisoft sandra, are there any errors or tips? I dont think its the mobo/CPU switch, those k7s5a boards are great!! (inexpensive and nice overclockers if you know where to get the right BIOS ) The only real issue with those boards is a bug that wont allow your computer to boot at front side bus speed greater than 150*2
  5. Not sure if this is what you are wanting to do, but you can set up a wildcard account so that any e-mail sent to anyaddress@****** will go to that account. In your control panel theres an option for default address under the mail settings, you can specify an account so that all unrouted mail..ie. anyname@****** will go to the account you specified. Not sure if thats what you are after, but hope that helps.
  6. the cable is the first thing I would try, also take a look at the ends on your cable and make nothings bent, broken or damaged.
  7. Thanks for the links, i'll check em out...right now i'm on my way to a cook out!!
  8. I have a few more apps I use but they are mainly tweaking, overclocking apps and "could" cause some problems if your not sure how to use them. Never had anything bad (read unrecoverable) happen, but it's pretty scary when you try something and all the sudden your computer turns off and wont reboot. I'm really excited about this mod thing, gives me another place to express my hardware geekyness
  9. Are you using the counters available in Front Page? I've never had very good luck with them. Theres a counter in the Cpanel under CGI scripts that works well and you can customize it a lot. I played around with it, and most of the other scripts when I 1st signed up.
  10. I've picked up on that here in the forums subforums would be cool, theres a lot of underground (for lack of a better word) information available. Things like certain AMD 1.4 ghz CPU's capable of 2+GHZ speeds with air cooling and no physical mods to the CPU itself I'm working on a few guides I can put on here. If there is an overclocking subforum just need to make sure theres a "do this at your own risk" disclaimer. CPU's smell funny when they melt
  11. Thanks I'm looking forward to see where we can go with the hardware section. I love gadgets!!!
  12. Yup google rocks, When I was supervisor of the support department at a small ISP when a tech asked me something my first question was "did you google it?" Usually they would go back to their desk and "google it" and wouldnt come back
  13. I thought I'd list some links for those people that like to monitor, benchmark or just tinker around with their hardware. Most of these I use when I do reviews. Video Benchmarking: 3DMark03 and 3DMark2001 Run up to 20 different tests to benchmark your video card performance. Online results to compare how your card matches up to other peoples. free version available, LARGE download! PC Benchmarking PCMark Run numerous tests on you PC. Free version available Monitoring Motherboard Monitor 5 Monitor CPU, case and chipset temperature, power supply voltage, fan speed. Built in alarm function. Free download. PC auditing Sisoft Sandra Get all the info about your PC hardware. Extensive reference results, Burn-in wizard, Cooling system information, Multi-platform. Free version available Aida32 Another great PC auditing app, provides pretty much the same info as SiSoft Sandra, and Aida is a smaller download. Free Stress Testing Prime95 Although this app wasnt made for stress testing a pc, it works GREAT. Basicly what it does is try and find Mersenne prime numbers (only 39 of them known) since it is a math app it REALLY puts a load on your CPU. Great for seeing how it will hold up and getting temperatures at a full load. Free Memory Testing Memtest86 Memtest86 is thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers. BIOS based memory tests are only a quick check and often miss many of the failures that are detected by Memtest86. Free Those are the main free apps I use. If your interested in a more "complete package" or you need to do some real diagnostics I also use these two programs, but they are not free. Quick Tech Pro QTP will put your system through the most vigorous diagnostics available. It includes the following: 57 motherboard tests, 28 hard drive tests, 9 floppy drive tests, 15 CD ROM, DVD,CDRW, ARMD (Zip and LS120) tests, 20 COM port tests, 25 parallel port tests, 20 modem tests, 21 printer (parallel) tests, 15 video graphics tests, 9 monitor tests, sound card tests, speaker test, mouse tests, an individual test for each keyboard key, 24 unique and proprietary algorithm memory tests and much more. WinStress W.S.T. performs a variety of functions including, Stress Loading, System Performance, and System Inventory. In Stress Loading mode, W.S.T. will simultaneously exercise all major components of the system including: CPU, FPU, MMX, RAM, Hard Disks, CD ROMs/DVD/CDR, Floppy disk, 2D and 3D graphics, Sound card, Printers, COM ports and Network adapters.
  14. I use aida32 a lot in my hardware reviews, another good one is Si soft Sandra, the full version isnt free but they have a free version that has the same features as aida. http://www.jaggedonline.co.uk/
  15. I'd love to! I may not know all the answers but I usually know where to get them if I dont

  19. thanks for all the tips, I did some digging around and found the formIE.css file, it was in the theme folder, but not in the root folder of the forum were i'm assuming it needs to be. I just copied it over to the root forum folder.
  20. i looked at my error log for the 1st time tonight and saw TONS and TONS of this error over and over again. [Thu May 22 21:39:40 2003] [error] [client **.***.**.**] File does not exist: /home/x-treme/public_html/forum/formIE.css [Thu May 22 21:39:38 2003] [error] [client **.***.**.**] File does not exist: /home/x-treme/public_html/forum/404.shtml the *'s are IP's that i edited out. Anyone have a clue? I know its saying that a file that someone is trying to access/view isnt there....but i have no idea what that formIE.css is **EDIT** Ok did some research, formIE has something to do with stats. all my stats view stuff works fine so should i ignore those errors?
  21. How do you see how many, if any pages you have queued in Googles index?
  22. if you are getting a 550 error it is being blocked by who you are sending to. the reason most isp's block mail is beacause of spam. if attbi has ever recieved a lot of spam from the mail server that you use its more than likely blocked. (not spam from you, but spam through the same outgoing mail server you use) the only way to get around it is to change outgoing mail servers in you mail set up, or to call attbi and see if you can find out why its blocked. But just as an FYI, if you call tech support and talk to a level one tech, they probably will have no idea why its blocked and tell you its something wrong on your end . A supervisor or someone that actually works with the mail server is your best bet.

    Hey

well, it was sposed to be a joke but I really do want to move, I live in a technology deprived town. Here their idea of a tech job is running a cash register at 7-11.

    Hey

    Is TCH hiring? I'll move
  25. I have limited experience with exchange so by no means take anything I say as fact and it "should" be something as simple as what kwielbacher said, go into your cpanel and choose edit MX record, where it says mail.lambertusa.com replace that with server.lambertusa.com. That would basicly change the street sign so to speak so that your mail would know where to go. server.lambertusa.com would be the domain name of your exchange server. But, like i said, i'm not the expert and i could be totally wrong
