If your like me, you want the most out of the hardware you pay for, well heres a little secret about a certain 1.4Ghz AMD CPU. One of the main differences in a high end CPU's and a low end CPU's is the "wafer" that big square piece that holds all the CPU components. AMD mass produced a 1.4GHz CPU using the wafer for a 2.2Ghz processor. This actually happens a lot due to supply and demand, rather than make new wafers for the XP 1700+ processor that was in higher demand, they used the wafers that were made for the XP 2800+. The trick here is not ALL XP 1700's were made with the XP 2800 wafer, you have to take a look at the stepping codes on the CPU (kind of like a serial number) what your looking for is a stepping code that has JIUHB in it, those 5 letters tell you that you have a entry level CPU built on a top of the line wafer. XP 1700+ (w/JIUHB stepping code) about $50-$60 XP 2800+ $177 on pricewatch.com Ok, so what difference does that make, you have a $50 dollar chip built on a $177 wafer, but when you install it on your motherboard it's still gonna be a 1.4ghz CPU. This is the nice part about this chip, without making any physical modifications to the CPU or motherboard you can safely increase the speed of the CPU to over 2.0Ghz by adjusting your FSB (Front Side Bus) in your BIOS. Most newer motherboards allow FSB and multipier adjustments. CPU speed is determined by FSB X multiplier. So, if you have a FSB of 166 and a multiplier of 10, you have a CPU speed of 1.66Ghz. 166 X 10 = 1660 Some of the REALLY new motherboards have built in overclocking tools in the BIOS that raise your FSB and multi one step at a time until the computer will no longer boot, then it steps down one and thats your max stable overclock. Anyway, back to the JIUHB CPU, a new motherboard and an XP 1700 with JIUHB stepping would cost you about $160- $180 but you could get the same performance out of it that you would from an XP 2800 and new motherboard that would cost you $270- $300. Or if you already have a nice motherboard, your out $50 bucks and you have one hell of a nice, powerfull CPU.

How much traffic do you get? I get about 1200 views a day and i have a TON of images, large database etc, and havent used half of my 10gig of bandwidth

Look in your admin section under edit members (there may or may not be a section called edit members, i dont remember if this was an add on I used or not) Anyway, I had a problem with new members signing up and their accounts being suspended, thats why I stopped having them register on the site and made my forums seperate. I had to manually unsuspend every new member.

if you go to your cpanel, and then scroll down on the bottom right to phpmyadmin open phpmyadmin and select your forum databse in the drop down menu, once it loads scroll to the bottom and click select all, then choose repair table. that might fix it, might not...i'm no dbase expert, but thats where i would start

looks like your database is corrupt, i was able to get to the forums and register but once i tried to post i got that error message.

those keyboards are suprisingly inexpensive, take a look at www.newegg.com I did get a new review gadget in today, an iAUDIO CW300 MP3 player, the model i got has 128 MB of memory and it holds about 30 MP3's recorded at high quality, its also a voice recorder and an FM radio, and its only 3" long! This version isnt due for release till next month but its pretty sweet.

99% of the time an e-mail cant be delivered its not the sending hosts fault. Due to spammers who actually do nothing else for a living but send out spam e-mail a lot of ISP's block e-mail from certain domains. I used to work for an ISP that also did webdesign, we had a list of MANY clients on our site and one of our competitors just went and mined all the e-mail address off their pages then started spamming them with e-mail telling them how much better their service was than ours. The network admin blocked all incoming mail from their domain, so instead of thousands of customers getting spam, the competition got thousands of undeliverable mail messages. I have an affiliate now that I cant send e-mail to, and its not because TCH's mail doesnt work, its because someone using the same host he does used their account for spam mail, so now my ISP blocks all mail from that domain. If your ISP is pretty big and well known, chances are all of your mail will get to where it needs to be, since most larger ISP's have spam prevention in place on their mail servers. In your mail set up just use mail.****** as your incoming server, and smtp.yourisp.com (or whatever the name of their SMTP server is) as your outgoing mail server and everything should work ok.

Heres the deal, I got offered exclusive content for my site in the form of professional quality, 5-10 minute videos. For those that dont know I run a computer hardware and computer mod site. The videos will be guides and how-to's of computer mods done by the the owner/creator of http://www.thebestcasescenario.com So far I'm using about half of my 10gig of bandwidth per month with an average of 1000 page views a day. but, I dont have any large downloadedable files hosted on TCH. If I make this deal traffic on my site will more than likely skyrocket, the major upside to that, is I'll be able to charge sponsors for add space, but the downside is the high bandwidth use. Is there any way to determine or estimate how much bandwidth I would need/use per month if I had say...15-20 10 MB videos streamed from my site? I would really like to do this since it would put my site on the map..for lack of a better word. There are literally 1,000's of sites that do the exact same thing I do, but this would make my site unique and one of a kind. any info/input would be greatly appreciated.

yay! that did the trick, happy sponsors = a happy leezard! Thanks a ton!

thats what I tried first, and it didnt work. I have been playing around with phpadsnew and have finally gotten it to display the banner on my forum, now i just cant figure out how to center it. I've tried the <center> HTML tag but that doesnt work. heres what the code looks like in my header file. if someone can tell me how to get that to center the banner I'll be a happy camper. heres what it looks like now http://forum.x-trememodz.com

Critical mass, if you determine its a BIOS issue, heres a walk through I threw together for flashing your BIOS in case you needed it. You can get the BIOS flash program and the most current BIOS from the ECS website. First things first, what is a BIOS? The BIOS, pronounced "bye-ose," is an acronym for basic input/output system. The BIOS is built-in software that determines what a computer can do without accessing programs from a disk. On PCs, the BIOS contains all the code required to control the keyboard, display screen, disk drives, serial communications and more. The BIOS is typically placed in a ROM chip inside the computer. This ensures that the BIOS will always be available and will not be damaged by disk failures. It also makes it possible for a computer to boot itself. Many modern PCs have a flash BIOS, which means that the BIOS has been recorded on a flash memory chip, which can be updated if necessary. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to flash your BIOS The first thing you need is a DOS boot disk. If you are using Windows 95 or 98: -------------------------------------------------------------- Put a blank disk in your floppy drive, click on start, click on run and type in command then press enter. This will pop up a DOS window, type a: and press enter. now you'll have something that looks like A:> with a flashing cursor next to it, type format a: /s and press enter. If you are using Windows NT, ME, 2000 or Linux: --------------------------------------------------------------- Theres no built in option for making a boot disk with these OS's but you still have a few choices. If your using Windows 2000 and have your windows 2000 CD, put a formatted floppy disk in your disk drive, and the Windows 2000 CD in your CD drive. Double click on my computer right click on your CD rom drive that has the windows 2000 CD in it and click on explore. Browse to VALUEADDRDPARTY\CA_ANTIV in the CA_ANTIV you'll see MAKEDISK.BAT. Double click on MAKEDISK and it will create a bootable floppy. you can also go to www.bootdisk.com and download a Win9X bootdisk image that will self extract to a floppy disk. If you are using Windows XP: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Put a blank floppy in your drive, right-click the floppy icon in explorer, choose "format" and choose "create a MS-DOS startup disk". --------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have your boot disk, you need to make sure theres no un needed files on it. with the disk in your floppy drive double click on my computer and then double click on 3.5 floppy a: Delete everything you see except for command.com io.sys msdos.sys Make sure you have show hidden files checked so that you dont miss any files. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you need to download the BIOS flash program and your BIOS ROM, There are two types of BIOS flash programs AMI and AWflash, the one you need is determined by the type of motherboard you have. You can usually get the flash utility that your board needs from your motherboard manufacturers website, thats also where you will get the most current bios ROM. These files usually come as a .zip file so you will need something like winzip or winrar to unzip them to your boot disk you made earlier. Once you have everything unzipped to your boot disk double click on my computer again and then double click your a drive, you should see something like this on your disk (it will be a little different depending on the BIOS flash program you are using and the name of the BIOS ROM) 020206.rom aminf329.exe command.com io.sys msdos.sys ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now, with the floppy disk in the drive shut the computer down and restart it, your computer should boot up off of the floppy disk and you will get a black screen with an a prompt A:\ At the A prompt type in the name of the BIOS flash program, in this example it is aminf329 press space then type in the name of the ROM, in this example its 020206.rom (you wont type this exactly as I have it, I'm just using the same file names as above as an example) so you should have something like this aminf329 020206.rom press enter The computer will perform a few checks, if you have the wrong BIOS it will let you know and nothing will change, if you have the correct BIOS it will install and ask you to reboot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clearing the CMOS After you reboot you will probably get an error message, dont worry thats normal. If you get an option to enter setup, press what ever key it specifies and go into your BIOS and make sure all the settings are correct, save and exit. That should fix the error message you recieved. If it doesnt you will need to clear your CMOS, this is usually done by a jumper setting on your mother board. Determine where the jumper is either by consulting your mother board manual, or from the manufacturers website. CMOS jumpers normally have 4 pins numbered 1-4 in most clases to clear your CMOS you first power off the computer and unplug the power cord, switch the jumpers to whatever two pins it wasnt on before and leave it there for about 2 seconds. Replace the jumper back to its original position, plug the power in and start up your computer. Again, you will need to go into your BIOS and make sure everything is correct, time, date etc. Thats it, keep in mind, we live in a World where Murphy's law runs rampant. I have never had a bad bios flash but it CAN happen. If your computer boots up after a BIOS flash but doesnt display anything dont panic, clear the CMOS again and repeat the flash. Like I said it's rare that a flash goes bad, but it can happen.

On my hardware review site all the hardware i get to review is in exchange for banners on my site, i have the main site banners set up and am pretty happy with how it works, but what i'm wanting to do is add 1 rotating banner section on my forums at http://forum.x-trememodz.com adding banners and stuff is easy in the entropy banner section, but it says to add this code to the .shtml page that you want the banners to apear on, well I'm using a php forum so am i right in assuming i cant use entropy banner on my forums? I downloded this php banner app last night and installed it with no problems http://www.phpadsnew.com/one/ it has WAY more features than what you would expect from a free app but I'm still unsure how to implement the banner rotation. All i need is a simple way to have a rotation of about 20 banners on my forums main page, any info/help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

once you create your database you also have to assign a user to that database. i use phpbb so i created a db named phpbb, the actual database name will be yourmainusername_phpbb. then I created a user with the username leezard, the username would look like yourmainusername_leezard THEN you have to assign yourmainusername_leezard to the dbase yourmainusername_phpbb. so in my config for the phpbb where it asks for username i put yourmainusername_leezard and for password i put in whatever password i supplied for that user.

Saw this keyboard in my many trips around the internet and thought some of my fellow gadget freaks would like to check it out. I've already sent off a request for one for me to review http://www.ideazon.com/

Ejem... I Dont Know Why This Error Appears
leezard replied to [subc]'s topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
rebuild= start over, if the dbase was corrupted all your member info etc is no good so ppl will have to resign up etc. restore a back up would mean you wouldnt lose much if any info depending on when your last back up was done. It sounds like the 1st option is your only choice, but for future reffrence, and to save yourself a few migraines... in your cpanel go to the site management section and your first choice is Backup, click on that and you'll be given a few different options. If you have never made a backup before I would chose full back up. Once you have your full back up you can do daily, every other day, monthly (however often you want) backups Thats how I do it anyway, I may be off here so if someone else more in the know could either verify or correct me on this I'd appreciate it TCH Stones -
After doing some research (typing in different keywords in google) These are the keywords and phrases that brought back the most results of sites like mine. Computer mods computer modding hardware hardware reviews hardware news This is what the source code looks like for my site currently (now you see why i asked about to may keywords) So, I was thinking about changing the keywords to: computer, mods, modding, hardware, review, reviews, news, overclocking or is that still to many different catagories?

Thanks for the info jweltz, I've never had a problem with the ECS board in my other computer, but I'll add that to my things to remember list If it is in fact a BIOS issue that might be why mine works fine, I flashed the BIOS to a more recent version than what came on the board. If you want to try a BIOS flash Critical Mass and are not sure how to go about doing it, let me know I'll put a guide together.
