Dave, You might want to try looking at hotscripts.com and see if there is something that would fit the bill. I can’t say I have used anything like that before. Lets see if any one else has a possible answer.

Although nothing is bullet-proof, deny all should block all http attempts from gaining entry to that directory.

In general the cgi-bin is more secure than the other directories. In some cases there is more to it that just putting something in there but if I had a choice I would most likely use it over putting it outside the directory.

By the way, don't take my comment about not being on the forums may have been a little misleading. My family here is my top priority so don't think I will be gone all the time. When I was just a moderator, I had more time to spend on the forums. I will still be here much of my time, and on IM but I have a bit more multitasking to do so I may be doing other things at the same time. Remember I will ALWAYS be here for you guys.

As TotalChoice has grown over the past few years, so have the loads on our Name Servers. As many of you know, in 2003 we moved to a totaly redundant DNS system using two name servers in two seperate datacenters. This has been a very good system. Acheiving almost 100% uptime of DNS resolution. As the number of domains we host has grown we have been closley watching the two name servers. Our administration team has suggested the need for implementation of another set of redundant name servers. This will insure that DNS queiries stay fast and efficient. Currently our DNS servers are receiveing a grade of "A" from DNS Stuff.com. http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnstime.ch?n...ting.com&type=A In a effort to continue this level of service we are implementing dns3.totalchoicehosting.com and dns4.totalchoicehosting.com effective with Server93 and beyond. These new nameservers are online and ready for production workloads. We will start using the new servers for new accounts only. These will be for accounts placed on Server 93 or above. If you're registering a new domain through us the name servers will be automatically set to the new nameservers. Therfore, new clients will not need to set the information for DNS nameservers. However, if you're an exsisting client and your account is on server 92 or below and you register a domain name, you will need to make sure you're using ns1.totalchoicehosting.com and ns2.totalchoicehosting.com. For those wondering why DNS3 and DNS4 and not NS3 and NS4 it is because we are using those for another machine.

Works in 2K as well.

In your cPanel you should have a raw access logs section that you can download and view in a text editor to try and determine where it was coming from. What board are you running?

This board can be set to those specifications. You will notice that the Family Forums are password protected so you would set something like that up for each person.

I have attempted a connection via FTP to your domain and it asked me to log in. I can also see your domain structure. If you are unable to resolve a connection it is most likely an issue with your route to the domain. Are you familiar with a traceroute and have you tried it to see where the connection may be failing?

Matt, We did take a poll from our users and though it was on the list it was not as high as others. As stated in my post to one of your other requests for this, we are still in discussion on this so we have not given up on it.

Matt, Offering or not offering anything dos not absolve one from supporting it. I do not expect everyone to know how to install and run things for themselves right off the bat. With limited exception you can install whatever you want, my feeling is that you come away with more if you learn to do it though. I was here before osCommerce was a part of cPanel and I had to teach myself. I learned much from it. I was just a customer at the time and I didnt expect them to help me, we can't be expected to support every script that is out there, not at the cost of our hosting. It is almost like asking the manager of the parking garage to help me install my new supercharger into my car. If we did offer it, the support for those apps would not change though and the talk is still going on with this .

Thanks Raul, I will say that there are many aspects to the new position so I may have to cut back a bit on my forum time. I will still be here to offer support whenever I can though.

I would open a ticket asking that, I think so but they will give you the steps to follow to do so.

As for a security risk using regular FTP, I have been using it for almost eight years now and have never had a problem. Is it possible? Yes, but probable, not so much. The few moments I am connected doesnt give a very large window unless someone is already "listening" or my computer is infected. The option above works if you feel you really need the extra security.
