We scan in documents to pdfs at work and combine them all the time. A normal text-only 8 1/2 x 11 document can be as small as 10-25k depending how you save it, so we're not talking tiny once you get them all together, but it's not that horrible considering it's a whole book. To cut down on the size, when you scan to a pdf, choose Screen in the properties (can't remember the exact name of the field atm, sorry) and set the dpi as low as you can and still have it easily readable.

I went through most of the site and they all pulled up fine (IE6.0). I always like looking at the Virtual Paris ones.

I have also heard that it puts some nasty spyware on your puter. Not worth smileys IMO. I'll just have to come here to get my fill of smileys!! Thumbs Up

The "guy" was me and I am also on IE 6.0.28whatever. When I put text size to Large or Largest, the text size doesn't increase in the slightest - some of the spaces between paragraphs do, but there is NO change to the text. Since I'd have to use my bifocals and literally get my nose to the screen to read the flash menus, I guess I won't be using the home page for anything anymore. And yes, the flash reloading on EVERY page is quite annoying. Making text small so you can cram more on a page is NOT the solution. There's too much going on and nowhere to focus. I'm not going to install another browser simply because TCH decides they don't like IE. Forgive me if I sound unhappy, but with all the talk in the forums about making things readable for all browsers and people, you don't seem to have taken that into consideration at all with this redesign.

I use IE, and changing the text size did nothing.

I'm sure I'm going to be one of the minority, but I don't care for it. First of all, the text is horribly small and I can't adjust it. Sorry guys, but for those of us with less than 20/20, that's an obnoxious-looking site. It's waaaay too crowded and busy IMO. I can't even read the menus that pop up at the top with the tiny black print on the dark backgrounds that bounce all over the place. Is it really necessary to have to wait for the top menus top do their "thing" every page I go to? Honestly, if this is what your site looked like when I first came to it, I probably wouldn't have stuck around to sign up. Sorry.

Blogger is extremely easy. I'm a novice, and I had it up and running in less than 10 minutes. Another 10-15 minutes to add comments from haloscan, and I was set.

I have two e-mail accounts set up on my TCH account, one for me and one for hubby. A couple of days ago I set up a mailing list for a cousin with my address and my cousin's as administrators and mods. However, my hubby also received a confirmation e-mail including the admin password, etc. after it was created. Do you know why he would've received this when he is not listed anywhere on the mailing list?

The spyware from Kazaa uses your bandwidth, so while it may not crash your computer, it will slow you down significantly. Been there done that. My advice is to get rid of Kazaa and get Kazaa Lite (supposedly spyware-free) or WinMX. Kazaa is ebil Mad!!!

That went around work a few months back. It was called a computer game for rednecks.

Mike, I appreciate the advice....I'm just feeling supremely lazy and don't want to go through the hassle of installing a script. I didn't think Mailman was too bad - I had to read the explanation of a couple of settings, but it does what I need. If I recall correctly, there is a link to the admin page in the e-mail the system sends out when I create the list, right?

I would like to set up a mailing list on my account for a relative of mine, but I have a few questions. I only used 293 megs of my 5 gigs bandwidth last month, so I know we'd have to work very hard to get close to max. However, we may have up to a few hundred people on the list at any one time. When an e-mail is sent out to such a large list, how does the server look at it bandwidth-wise? Is it one e-mail, or several hundred? Also, is it possible for this relative to get into the admin site to do maintenance without accessing my cpanel? Thanks Kristi

I had none for either. Your gf might have some spyware on her puter. When I had that, I'd get popups on ANY site, and even some when my browser wasn't open. She might want to download and run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy. They did a good job cleaning up my registry.

I have AMD 1.4ghz and I have no trouble with having lots of apps open. Dreamweaver can get me low on resources, but that's because it's a memory hog and I only have 512 meg RAM. Even so I often have a dozen pics open in Lview Pro, a couple of Dreamweaver pages, and my browser at the same time and it's not slow at all.

Bruce - I had trouble the first couple times too because I'd put the state where it should go, but it wasn't reading it right and would buzz me. I must admit, a few of those New England states still mess me up.

I have a small family site, and my record (for the three months I've been here) is 218. Many of those were most likely from people looking at my St. Lucia pics since I posted the site on Trip Advisor with my review. Haven't a clue what my Google ranking is, and I haven't bothered looking up what dmoz is (never heard of it outside of these boards).

From what I understand having read these boards, the lack of content and links are what cause problems in rankings with an intro page. Depends on what kind of exposure you're looking for. I have a family site with an intro page so it's no biggie if my rank isn't good. However, I am fortunate enough to have a completely unique name, so when people search on gryfalia (hubby's nick), our index page pops up first.
