  1. new welcome email sent - 208.76.80.176
  2. Do you mean you want to backup ( archive ) the database every month ? Or do you mean you want to extract and achive just a months worth of the database ? Or do you mean you want to select just content from a specific month to display ?
  3. Is there anything special I need to do to purchase the hosting without having a domain name to link it to in the meantime? What IP address/FTP address would I use to access cpanel for email setup and FTP services? When you purchase the hosting - use your current domain name ( just make sure you don't use an email address that is at that domain name - otherwise you won't receive it - as it will be sent to the local account ) The IP address will be sent to your in your welcome email ( we have around 200 servers - so I can't say in advance what IP )
  4. Hi Dave, - I need to move files over to TCH, but can I do that before the DNS is updated to point to TCH? Yes, you can upload files via FTP, using the IP address. - can you handle interfacing with my current hosting company to transfer my domain name? You don't have to transfer the domain name as well ( although you can of course ). It's a relatively simple task. I would sort out the web page transfers first though. - I have about 7 different email accounts (wife's, mine, business, etc) that need to have as little down time as possible. What can I expect during the transfer? If you set up the email accounts first ( in cpanel, using the IP address ) then change the DNS, should shouldn't really find any downtime. You can check email at both places during propagation, again using IP addresses. - I know that the domain name and the hosting can be held by 2 different companies, but can I transfer the name to TCH also. It would be nice to have everything in one location. Partially answered above - yes you can transfer it if you wish - just follow the link for Domain Name Transfers
  5. Hi Richard, welcome to the forums As Don says you can login to the cpanel using the old IP address. You can also log into the old webmail the same way. If you want to use your mail client - just set the host name to the old IP address, and that should also work. In terms of multiple accounts - If you want them all to display the same files - just ask us to park the new domain names for you - it's free.
  6. unless you have a dedicated server, with your own nameservers, then simply way is just to set the DNS to the TotalChoice nameservers. If you want to manage your own DNS ( so you can chose where your MX goes etc., rather than having us manage that for you) then set the IP to the IP for your domain. I would generally recommend the former.
  7. Hi DebC, welcome to the forums If you open a ticket at the help desk ( link at the top of the page ) we'll sort out the permissions and ownership for you.
  8. Welcome to the forums wickerby 1) Do you have an internal alert when a site goes down or one that alerts me? As Bruce says, the managers and lead techs get a pager alert whenever there is a server alert ( it means we work very hard to make sure there are none - I for one don't like pager alerts in the middle of the night ). For a managed server, we can email alerts to you if you like. We generally don't for unmanaged servers, but if anyone wanted us to - please open a ticket and I'm sure we can come to an arrangement. For shared accounts, we don't monitor individual accounts. 2) My only problems were last year when there were a series of hijacks and other instrusions when took me down for a while. Again, the only way I or my webmaster notices this is by checking the page, which is ok but do you all consider this outside of your job? We don't routinely monitor all pages, but of course we do take action ( notify the owner and work with them to correct it ) if we do notice, or are informed, of a hacked account.
  9. with a one option vote - I think I can predict the outcome Thanks for the thoughts and support though I'd be welcome to hear what people think our strengths ( and areas for improvement ) are.
  10. Open a ticket at the help desk - and we'll check our backups for you.
  11. You will need to have write permissions on the folder for php - so yes, if you are the owner of the folder, you will need 777 permissions to write the file there. If you are writing via the script, it will generally bypass the password protection, but the password protection will provide security from people trying to run something uploaded ( assuming they can't get the login details).
  12. Hi Justin, Yes, the space taken up by your databases is part of the space for your account ( as do your email accounts, log files you may decide to keep etc.)
  13. If you like, open a ticket at the help desk - and we'll restore the database etc from a backup for you - so that it recovers it all.
  14. The username of 8 characters should be fine. The config file should be in the SMF folder, and you need to remember that it will have your cpanel username on it; Database: cpaneluser_dbname user: cpaneluser_username Pass: password The only thing I'm slightly confused with ... changing your cpanel password shouldn't affect the SMF.
  15. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "I don't want to pass the FDF file to the user, I want them to view a PDF file." The only way they will be able to view it is essentially that you pass it to them. Do you mean that you want them to open it directly in the browser, rather than saving to disk ?
  16. Hi, How are you doing the backup? It depends on a number of issues, but if you open a ticket at the help desk ( link at top of page) we'll take a quick look for you.
  17. Hi Jim, A lot of people have small accounts, that don't want the space - hence it's more beneficial for them to have a large number of accounts on a reseller. If you have all large accounts, then you would be better of with the separate accounts. I'd also agree, below 4 accounts, it's generally cheaper to have separate accounts ( though not always as convenient ). I have a mix of accounts, some of which are only a couple of pages, and email for friends / businesses - so yes they are only 30MB or something on an account. A key reason why we have fast, reliable servers is that we don't oversell. It's not something we are ever going to change ( it's part of our core values of providing honest, reliable fast services). It's not that we are not listening to your requests, simply that it's against our ethos to oversell, and at the very budget prices you can't do it without cutting costs ( for example by overselling, or overloading servers). We are not at the cheapest end of budget hosting - and never will be. If they are the right hosts for you, then feel free to try them. For myself, I'd always prefer the reliability, speed and support that you get here - which is why I host here, and not with one of them If I can use an analogy of a car. I can go and get one for $500. It will have reliability problems, and all sorts of issues, but I can get one. I choose not to, and to buy something more expensive that is much more reliable, and much more suitable for my purpose.
  18. What Dick means here is that although a reseller account is for people who want to 'sell' hosting to others, it can also be used by individuals who just want several accounts themselves. You basically have an amount of disk space and bandwidth in a reseller account ( plus all the tools). You can then have your 3 accounts ( or 10, 20 whatever you like) in this space. You only pay for the one reseller account. You can create as many accounts within that space as you like. For example, I have a reseller and most of my family have a web site there ( I just create them - it costs nothing extra) so that my wife can have one, as can my daughter. My wife has a business related one ... I've given one to my friend.... Does that make sense ?
  19. Welcome to the forums BrandonRandon What do you want to do with the redirect ? Just a redirect of a single file ? Or folder ? The error seems a little odd - in that it says an error on line 15 of the .htaccess, but the .htaccess you show is only 3 lines long. Is there anything else further down ? I'd suggest opening a ticket at the help desk - and we'll take a closer look at it for you.
  20. It was failing for the original poster because they had an a filter set up on that account - hence the account effectively existed. By removing that filter - the emails would stop.
  21. We had a couple of issues on the servers listed above - but all are running now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  22. We are currently having power issues at our NOC. We are working on it, and will provide updates shortly This is affecting cathar, darthvader, naboo, ossus and yavin at the current time ....
  23. HI Jim, I edited out the name of the host you were referring to. Lets take a simple look at it ..... 5GB of space, and say a 200GB hard drive ... so that's 40 accounts on a server. 40 accounts x $4 is $160 ... for which they need to buy, manage and support your server (as well as paying bandwidth, power etc.). It just doesn't make economical sense. However, if you put 500 accounts on the server, and assume that most will only use a few hundred MB .... then that is overselling - something we simply won't do. Why, because it gives server load issues, as well as space issues. By all means, try an account with them, but I am certain that if you use all that space, and the bandwidth you are supposedly allowed, they will find some reason for your account not being suitable. Besides, do you think you will get anything like the support you get here
  24. Thanks for the kind words Peter IT'S great to have you part of the family here
  25. The free and paid versions are exactly the same. Free costs you something ( possibly) in bandwidth ant time to download .... the paid version will usually be sent in the post to you ( someone has the cost of making a CD and posting it). Ubuntu will send you the disk free anyway though - just takes a few weeks. I'd download both ... burn them onto CD, and have a look
