1. I LOVE the calendar!!!!! That's very cool. Could it be used to post planned maint./downtime, too? Teehee. New toys. Lianna
2. Well, the glorious world of search engines! Each search engine updates at its own frequency. Once submitted, it could takes day, weeks, even months with some engines before your site is in the list. Normally 2-6 weeks is a "reasonable" submission lag. My site appeared on Google in about 2.5 weeks, and more than 2 months later hit MSN's list. Be patient. ...this isn't something that you, your host or ISP can control. Lianna
3. Ok! I will get the posting up in just a bit. I have a couple of client issues that I have to get worked out before close of business, so it will take a little while. This is going to be fun! Lianna
4. It's Turtle's fault! Don'tcha just LUV it? I think we should have a contest and let US come up with your avatar! Winner gets a sixpack of Mountain Dew? I still think we all ought to put up our baby-pix for a week...I can't believe nobody took that dare! Wimps, I say. Lianna
5. As soon as you get your welcome email, which should be well within 24 hours of the account request. There will be instructions there for accessing the control panel by IP until the domain name is fully propogated. When the domain name prop completes, usually 24-72 hours from the time of signup, then you can access the control panel from your browser via http://******/cpanel (replacing "******" with, well, YOUR domain). Welcome to SNH! Lianna
6. Alan, Will email you address, etc. Put me in for $50 ...US Dollars... Lianna
7. Atop this forum it shows "Logged in as : welshwizard (Your Control Panel | ..." etc. Click the Your Control Panel link and then click Avatar Settings from the left menu. You can choose one that's already here or upload or link to an avatar (piccie thingy). Lianna
8. I am never offended by anyone that protects themself! Just an offer. Per hosting a different domain name: I don't think that will be a problem at all. Just drop a helpdesk ticket with all the details of the new domain name, etc. Since spitwad is providing such "rockin" support today, I'm pretty sure he can get you fixed up. So how'd you fix the right-click thing? Lianna
9. Not conceited, just convinced. Yep, you rock...and so does everybody else at SNH! So there's my Christmas gift to each and every ego there. <sniff> Is that testosterone I smell? Lianna
10. Welcome to the SNH family! And by the way, the install directions on phpBB site? Throw it way. cPanel does it all for you. You can, of course refer to their admin help and config options, but the install is done done on autopilot through cPanel. Here's mine. I put it together and changed the theme in all of about 20 minutes. Lianna
11. From what I've read on the 1and1 site, YES. It seems 1and1 IS uk2. Were you ever given a password for your domain management? If so, would you like to email it to me? I will offer again, to happily check this out and write step-by-step directions of how to change your DNS servers. I will NOT change anything! That's not what i do. I will find the answer for you and give the directions to you so that YOU can do it. Again, your call, but at the very least the 1and1 guys need a good yelling at. Lianna
12. Ok, if you go to this page: http://1and1.co.uk/ and scroll about half way down on the right, do you see where you can login? Enter your domain name (without the www.) and then the password that you should have been given when originally sigining up for the domain. (That may or maynot be different than your hosting account password...) See if you can get logged in. If so, is there an option to "Manage DNS" or something to that effect? If so, that's where you want to go to enter the new dns server names that ***** gave you in your welcome letter. I don't have access to the login without your password or having a domain registered through that company. If you would like to email me the specific info, I will happily check it out and see if there is indeed a way to change the DNS servers without having to transfer the domain to another registrar. Up to you. According to an entry in the discussion forums for that registrar, you CAN change your name servers from within the domain control panel: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&....btinternet.com And, here's another one of interest: http://forums.uk2.net/showthread.php?s=f7a...&threadid=20894 Lianna
13. Hi Ted. You're referring to the Add-on price list stating $20 to install PHPBB, right? Now that PHPBB is included with cPanel, there is no additional charge. You can install it yourself from cPanel and it's a breeze. If you have any problems with it, just drop a note here and we'll help you out. Also, let me address that PHPBB requires a MySQL Db. You mentioned that you wanted to setup "a couple" of bulletin boards. Please note that the Budget plan only includes ONE Db, so you would need to go with a Starter Plan or better to be able to host more than one bulletin board. Lianna
14. By the way, welshwizard, who are you currently registered with? What's the domain that you want to work with? Let me do some poking around and see what's up with that no DNS pointing stuff. Lianna
15. There you go, rayners! Better get that allowance saved up! Lianna
16. Go to Verisign and transfer the domain to them. Once the transfer is complete then you will be able to point the DNS to *****. The transfer cost is $15 and includes a one year renewal/extension, too. Here is Verisign's address for transfer: http://www.netsol.com/en_US/name-it/cra-mu...ckid=1000000000 If you need any help with that, just yell. I should be around most of the day. Lianna
17. You're welcome. I had a similar situation. My previous host provided a thing called "Mail Groups" whereby all mail sent to one address was automatically distributed to all addresses in the Mail Group. When I got here and there was no Mail Group option, we had to come up with a way to maintain the effect. This did the trick. (Thanks to the guys that helped me figure it out!) Come on over to SNH! You'll love it! Lianna
18. Sammy, Sure you can do this. It takes a bit of creative manipulation, but I did the same thing. First, remove the POP3 account that is to get forwarded...this is necessary for the forward to multiple recipients to work correctly. Create a new pop3 account this is to receive the forward. Set up a Forwarder to send that (old pop3 mailbox name) to the the new address. Set up another Forwarder to send that (old pop3 mailbox name) to the SM pager address. Example. I have an account mymail@**** that I want delivered to my pager and a pop3 mailbox. First, I remove the mymail mail account. Then, I create another mail account, mymail2. Then I create a Forwarder for mymail@**** forwarding to mymail2@**** Then I create a Forwarder for mymail@**** forwarding to mypagernumber@pagerhost.com That should do it. Try it out on a non-critical email address first (or a made up one). The pop3 account settings in your pop3 client will need to be changed to collect the mail from the mymail2 account. Also, when creating the forward, you can enter both recipient addresses in at the same time by using a comma without spaces: Forward mymail@**** to "mymail2@****,mypagernumber@pagerhost.com" (without quotes). Lianna
19. Hooray! Glad you're happy with SNH. Let us know if you have any more issues. Lianna
20. If you can email me all of your OLD host and SNH host information, I will try to transfer your existing site over in parts. Then you should be good to publish updates after that. I know that your site is really large, but I've had fairly good success in just tranferring raw files that were created in frontpage. Click the Email button. I should be able to get this done today without issue. Lianna
21. Can you first publish in parts? I'm not sure how the Frontpage publishing works, but seems that if you can get the site to break up into parts, you're problems could be minimized. Thinking out loud. Lianna
22. Can you give me a url to go look at the mp3 question? You could create a link to the mp3 file. Most browsers then would initiate a saveas/open dialog when clicked. Like this: Click here to download Popup Stopper (Freeware) Where the link code looks like this: >Click here to download Popup Stopper (Freeware) See how I give the EXACT path to the file for the link? Next question is password protecting individual pages...You can easily accomplish this with a number of javascripts, etc. that are available. Checkout DynamicDrive and search for "password protected pages". Some do involve htaccess, but not all and there are simpler ways, although not un-hackable. Third, your webstats should be working if your site, by domain name, has been available for more than 24 hours. Else, are you actually selecting the FTP Stats? That is buggy and doesn't work. So, be patient if you're inside 24 hours online at SNH or turn in a help desk ticket otherwise. The guys will get you lined out in no time. Lianna
23. Have you installed the Frontpage Extensions to your site yet? Go to CPanel and click Frontpage Extensions in the Site Management group. Then try to republish with Frontpage. Lianna
24. You and me both, rayners! Guess we'll have to save our allowance or ask Santa. Lianna
25. Well, if $400 isn't an issue, don't skimp yourself...go for the full MX Studio and get Fireworks, Flash, Dreamweaver, Cold Fusion and Freehand for $799! Separately, they are $1500 before adding in Cold Fusion. Here's the link to Macromedia Studio MX Or Dreamweaver MX Toodles, Lianna
