There was a poll awhile back with a lot of discussion about email clients. Maybe it will help you find the best client. I use Thunderbird myself for home and Outlook at work. I also used The Bat recently but didn't like their pay-for-upgrade policy. Had some really nice features though. Basically it all comes down to what's best for you.

Welcome to the forums, Drub! I use Firefox myself, as do many of the forum folks, so I can't address the specifics but it does sound to me that it may be a setting. I'd be real surprised if it did fine in Firefox and not in Mozilla and if that were the case I'd look to the individual install rather than the cPanel as the source of the problem. Is it possible to do a fresh install of Mozilla or would that be a major pain? It may reset the errant setting if you could.

DJ, all of those things are done by people breaking the law. The drunk driving laws are to prevent folks from killing themselves and others but every day people die from car wrecks where someone involved was drunk. Definitely never reply to spam because they use that to confirm that your email address is valid and will really target you then.

Weezy, the difference is that "Page Rank" is a term Google uses to represent (or misrepresent) how important they think a page is based on the number and types of sites linking to it. Some experts think Google is using it to "throw people off" so they can't figure out the way Google thinks and thus scam the results. It is basically bogus at this time and means nothing to anyone, IMO. Your placement on the engines when searching for key phrases is what many call SERP placement which stands for Search Engine Results Page placement. They are very different things indeed. The SERP for your keyword is what will bring folks to your site. The PR will just waste your time and have you chasing your tail.

Very true, all. PR is indeed worthless and does not refer to where you show up in a search but rather to an arbitrary number Google invented that they don't even rely very much on. Anyone can be #1 on Google - if their search term is "oenuthaurcah.rc" (which this post will probably be #1 for in a week or two ) That also means nothing and is why so many places guarantee #1 ranking or top 10 ranking. There are only 2 things as I see it that matter. 1. Is the person who is looking to buy your product ending up at your site? 2. Are they actually pulling out the wallet once they get there? Other than that it's all just academic. Weezy, one site I just found (on Google) was www.top25web.com/pagerank.php. I plugged in one of my sites and it says page rank is 4 of 10 but when you go to Google and search for "key west fishing charter boat" (very specific and not a big deal to be #1) the site is #1 of about 317,000 sites and if you do "key west fishing" (very vague with quite a bit of competition) it is #28 of 1,820,000 sites relating to that phrase. PR of 4 is fairly lame as far as PR goes so it's obviously not a big factor in where I'm showing up in the searches.

Even before adding the Hosts file Bruce mentioned, I eliminated most popups. The final help was SpywareBlaster as recommended earlier. I also have the following extensions: WeatherFox - irrelevant Search Keys - irrelevant Image Zoom - irrelevant User Agent Switcher - irrelevant ? Adblock - relevant Disable Targets for Downloads - relevant I also have not changed any of the about:config settings so it's not that helping me. Under options I have everything checked except "for the originating site only". Hope it helps some. It's nice to not have all that junk when you power-close firefox at work to keep the boss from seeing you surf.

I'm just guessing but I'd say it may be the way the software works that we use to provision accounts. Some things, like Cpanel, come preconfigured a certain way and it would take an act of Congress to change them.

For what it's worth, you can link to anyone you wish without permission as long as you don't misrepresent them. How else would there be about 13 million links to Microsoft.com? I'm sure they didn't ask. It's similar to someone coming into your shop and asking for something you don't have and you tell them they can buy it over there at Walmart. As for taking another person's pattern and transferring it to your own silks, that sounds like you could get into some legal trouble for doing that alone, muchless posting it on your site. It would be like me selling mouse pads that I made up but amazingly enough they have the TotalChoice Hosting logo on them.

You can use the Overture pay-per-click keyword selector tool at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ it gives you many variations on a phrase you enter and how often those terms are searched for. It's free to use too.

"Content is king," some would say. For Google, links are very powerful. For the others content weighs heavily. If you have good ranking on Yahoo and others then I'd advise not chasing Google's ever-changing algorithms. If it is an issue of wanting to make a better experience for your customers then changes are probably in order. The tags are almost totally unused by the engines for placement. Most every engine looks at content because the tags were abused so badly. Put them in for sure... the "description" tag is sometimes used for the entry on the engine so make it read nice.

Maybe if you compile a list of things you need that are generic (nothing specific to your account) then we could answer the parts we know and maybe you could even make a tutorial out of it. It sounds like you have a lot of questions in the setup like "Where is your perl program" or "Where is your email program" and those we can maybe answer even without knowing about phpcoin.

One unconfirmed theory I heard was that they are decreasing the rank of blogs because they are everywhere and don't really necessarily provide facts so they aren't as well regarded. It's only a thought but with blogs "out of the way", company or informational sites have a better chance. Also I think, from personal observation, that they are working on identifying spammy sites... the ones I track for my client (his competition) have mostly dropped off the lists. Only time will tell.

We already have that - it's called video games! These things are getting so realistic I was playing one and got shot from behind and almost fell out of my chair it was so "enveloping".

"Google is to search engines as Microsoft is to Operating Systems." They're the biggest (for now) and most well known so they can pretty much do whatever they want. Eventually, if they botch it too much someone else will take over but until then, or if that never happens, they can get by with it because they're the, arguably, best game in town. We may think there are better engines but the "unwashed masess" don't even know about the others in most cases.

Dave, Another thing to consider is that Google seems to be doing a lot of experimenting with the algorithms relating to blogs and forums. They may be in a "keep them back" mode and it may change again soon. If they stay in this mindset then bloggers and forum guys will need to make "plain" homepages to lead in or something.
