As Rick says, ftp is the easiest way to change the file permissions. I used CoreFTP with no problems. Curtis, that jump box is for the guest book to jump to other pages. You can add links to other pages as I have shown above. You can also edit the header and footer to add html links. In my testguestbook I added a link back to my site at the top and a link at the bottom back to the top of the page.

When you go to change a template in the admin, look at the top for the path to the file. use ftp or cpanels file manager to locate the file copy to your computer as a backup, and change the permissions of the file on your site. Change to 777 until you are done, then go back and change it back to 755.

Yes, just put a link on your pages. You can change the background and the colors and a few other thing using the admin panel with styles and templates. I would make a copy of any templates to change, and save on my computer, when I find the file to change the permissions as indicated in the above post. You can install a second guestbook to play with, and see how to make changes. In the templates section you can edit the header to add a background image like <body background="http://mysite.com/imges/background.gif" bgcolor="$VARS[pbgcolor]" link="$VARS[link_color]" vlink="$VARS[link_color]"> add the part in blue, but it will only show around the edges. If you look at the body.php you will see <form method="post" action="index.php"> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="center" width="$VARS[width]"> <tr> <td width="56%"><img src="img/logo.gif"></A></td> the img/logo.gif can be replaced with your own by uploading an image of the same name to the same folder (img), or you can remove it and replace it with text. <form method="post" action="index.php"> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="center" width="$VARS[width]"> <tr> <td width="56%"> <!-- <img src="img/logo.gif" width="225" height="42"> --> <FONT SIZE="+2"><B> <FONT COLOR="#0000FF">My Guest Book</FONT> <BR> <A HREF="http://www.mysite.com/" TARGET="_top">Return to my site</A> </B></FONT> see how the image is commented out and replaced by a text link back to the site. You do not have to change anything, but now its the time to try changing it. Again install a second guestbook to try changes on with out fear of messing up. You can always delete the second one and start over.

While not the answer you seek or as flexible as ftp, if you log into cpanel in the secure mode (https://serverXX.totalchoicehosting.com:2083/) (XX is your server number) and then use file manager, it will be in the secure mode.

Tim, I will make some assumptions, so this may not be what you want. I think by a "homepage for my forum" you mean a way for visitors to get to your forum. If you have a forum at for example www.mysite.com/forum/ and you want it to be visible when someone goes to www.mysite.com You can make a start page named index.html with a link to the forum like <A HREF="www.mysite.com/forum/">visit my forum</A> and put it in your public_html folder the page can be as simple as <HTML> <HEAD> </HEAD> <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" TEXT="#000000" LINK="#0000FF" VLINK="#800080" ALINK="#FF0000"> <H1>My Forum</H1> <BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR> <A HREF="www.mysite.com/forum/">visit my forum</A> </BODY> </HTML> of course replace www.mysite.com with your address, and save it to your computer as index.html for uploading to your site. As to a program to upload this page with, to start, you could use the cpanel file manager (located at the bottom of cpanel) to navagate to your public_html directory (click on the icons to enter a folder, not the name) You can use the upload files link to browse to the html file you have saved on your computer, then click upload. Be sure you are in the public_html folder when you upload, as that is where your web site is. This should get you started if you do not have any programs to create a page. hope this helps.

That looks like a standard opening to an inline style element. Have you looked at the published page with this on to see how it displays in Opera? and is there a closing tag </style> ?

If you are going to link to a folder, cpanel can protect that folder. Anyone following the link will be presented with a login box for user/password for that folder, before being allowed to continue.

Have you tried something like print(" it\'s an apostrophe "); the \ will escape the ' character to cause it to be displayed. You can also display a quotation mark print(" this is a \"quote\" ");

The simple one you need to do all the work. I would try the advanced one, it installs by just selecting a folder. Enter the a user name and password when asked, any will do. Then log into the admin to play with the style and templates. You will have to use ftp or file manager to change permissions for the template files. Look above in the admin page, when changing a template to see the location of the files to give permissions to. Just change to 777 til you are done, then change it back so no one else can change it. Do all the customizing before you make it public. One of our family members recommended an editor with built in ftp to open, edit and re-save a file on your site. Source Edit from www.brixoft.com I have found this easier to use than going through cpanel. Plus you can undo and re save. Thanks Anacrusis, great program!

Hi, sorry to be so long to answer I know what you mean, it looks too good to be true, but after almost a year here, I can tell you its better than it looks.
