I have lived in this state my entire life and I have never seen storms like this. Appears at one point there were 150K DTE customers without power. http://www.theoaklandpress.com/articles/2013/07/21/news/local_news/doc51ebdcb48105b081693297.txt

Me - Mail delivery is governed by the MX records in the receiving domain's DNS zone. You can have multiple MX records, and the records can be weighted with "preference" so that certain a certain server can be the primary receiver and other servers can be lower priority machines. So if multiple MX records exist and a mail server is down, then mail delivery goes to the next preferenced server. Typically, mail servers are configured with retry times, so if the mail servers for the recipient domain are unreachable, the mail is flagged for RETRY. The sending server waits a preset amount of time and then attempts delivery again. If the recipient mail exchangers are still not reachable, then the sending server may return the mail to the RETRY queue, again for a configured amount of time subsequent retries may be a longer wait, say 4 hours for example. The number of retries and the time increments between the first and subsequent retries are all configurable within the sending server by the servers adminisrator. Typically, after 12-24 hours of retry if the recipient servers are still not reachable, the sending server will give up and will likely send an undeliverable report to the sender indicating that it could not deliver the email. Bottom line is you should get any mail sent to you whenever you have an email outage.

It is possible that you are receiving direct IP transit from your provider. If you have an Ethernet jack , plug your pc into it and see if you get a good link. You do not always need a modem for internet connection. This is mostly seen on smaller scale ISP companies. I am sorry but we are really not in a position to support your ISP connection. http://btconline.net/ appears to be your provider. You should be able to use their website to get the help you need.

Minor Service Interruption
Head Guru replied to TCH-Mike's topic in TCH Data Centers General Announcements
Hello TCH Family. We were once again the victim of another DOS attack. The attack has been mitigated and all but one server is back online. The server that was the target of the attack has been taken offline during our investigation. We are working as quickly as possible to fully restore service on this one server. Thank you for your understanding. -
Thank you for your business.

Dygme, Like Dick said, the best thing to do is only list out in your php.ini files the features you will be using. Welcome to the forums and thank you for your business.,

The National Weather Service is currently forecasting a Nor'easter snow storm for Friday, February 8, 2013. With snowfall amounts of up to 10 inches and wind gusts up to 40 mph forecasted. We have been hard at work today taking measures to guard against service interruptions. All of our Electrical and emergency power systems including Generators and UPS/Batteries were just tested this past Monday as part of our monthly service testing. So we are very confident that our redundant power systems are ready to handle loads in case of a Utility Power Failure. Our fuel vendors have been notified and they are on standby ready to provide additional diesel fuel in the event of a long term utility power outage. Throughout the storm, in addition to normal monitoring, we will be performing an increased number of visual inspections of the building structure and all critical systems. In the event an emergency response is necessary, incident notifications will be sent. In addition, our Network Operations Center can be reached 24x7 by emailing support@totalchoicehosting.com Thank you for being a valued customer of TotalChoice Hosting.

Hello TotalChoice Family, Today we have completed our move into our new monitoring system. After several months of experimenting and testing different services, we have chosen to utilize the services of Alertra, Inc. This was an exhaustive search including the trial of over 15 different monitoring services. We took this move very serious and spent a lot of time sifting thru the options. I am really confident in our choice to use http://www.alertra.com for our uptime stats and monitoring. Alertra is a leading web site / server monitoring company with over 13 years experience in the monitoring business. With offices located in Oklahoma, USA and providing service to over 25,000 clients, they are poised to provide TCH many years of reliable service. Alertra is actively monitoring the TCH server farm as of late yesterday afternoon. I understand how important it is to trust your web host, however, I also understand that trust is something that is earned. That is why we have never published independent uptime numbers and have always allowed a third party to verify to our clients the actual uptime for our servers. This will never change here at TCH, our clients will always be able to know our network, individual and total average uptimes. We can’t hide behind them because we do not publish them. Whilst the actual move to Alertra has been completed, we are still working on the uptime results being published into our web site. We do expect to have this completed within the next week to ten days and I will once again update this thread. I wanted to also thank the support team at Alertra, they have been excellent to deal with and have helped us get moved into our new digs! They have proven to me that the right choice was made to use their service. I will update this post once again in the next week or so with links to our new uptimes pages with results provided by Alertra. It is a great day to be a TCH GURU!

The Blackberry, Rebuilt, Lives To Fight Another Day
Head Guru replied to TCH-Mike's topic in Open Discussion
I think the one thing that might be not accounted for in your thoughts guys, is Blackberry is really on fire in overseas markets. The playbook outsold the iPad in the UK in the 4th quarter. I gave up on blackberry 3 years ago and moved to Android. Have not looked back!
