Not if your a reseller.... You should ne calling and or emailing your clients if your server goes down. Other than that I cant see why you would need this service. Just my 2 cents.

I have the monitoring already in place, I will say that it is not as reliable as the 3rd party companies, but I was thinking for 1/2 of the price we could offer 99% of the service they do. I mean this would be the same monitoring that I rely on to run TCH... The 3rd party companies run servers from 3 or four locations, so if one check fails the sysyem than fails over to another route to check your server. This is nice as if one of the monitoring servers has down time the others can take over. However I have found that our internal monitoring is 99.95% effective. This is for sure something we could offer. I just need to see if there is a interest in us offering it. If there is enough interest and I think I can break even on the deal I would offer this in a heartbeat. We could offer monitoring with 5 10 or 15 minute checks.

Several folks have asked for places to have their server monitored and when their web site goes down they want to be called or paged. If TCH was to offer such a service would you be willing to pay for it? For example. A monitoring service that checks your home page every 15 minutes to determine if apache is up and running. A monitoring service that checks your home page for content changes. This is a great tool to keep a steady eye on your site for hacks or unauthorized changes. A monitoring service that checks your MYsql server. A monitoring service that will page you when your checks fail and again when your services are back up. This can be sent either via email or SMS cell phone. Would anyone here be willing to pay say $1.00 a month for this type of service?

Just a suggestion... Use the PM Feature of the boards. This will send a private message directly to the users account and they can respond directly to you.

We have been hashing this over in staff chat for two months. We have gone so far as to hire a design firm and have had several comp's done. But... What do you think? When you first came to TCH and saw our site what crossed your mind? When you see other hosting sites and then look at ours what do you think? Should we spend the cash on this project, or what? Please help me, this is something that I would like to get resolved. Bill

I think the proper thing would be to approach the Network Admin or IT Department at your work. If the forum is blocked they probably have a reason to do so. If you bypass their block and get caught it could get ugly. IT guys are cool if your approach them up front and honestly. They will get ticked in a heartbeat if you try to cirumvent their network protocol. Just my 2 cents.

(Bill gets out his A+ cert) Ok Kernel32 is actually a Dynamic Link Library. Kernel32's main job is a Memory Handler. It true job is piping input/output functions. When you boot up windows Kernel32 loads into a "Protected Mode" area of RAM. A major issue with the 9x kernel was that any program could make a call to that protected mode area of memory. The actual reason your getting a IPF (Invalid Page Fault) could be one of many. In my many years of IT field service, the most common cause for Kernel32 BSOD's were: Damaged Swap File Corrupt Registry BAD VIDEO DRIVERS Password list is damaged Follow the diagnostic route for KERNEL32.DLL errors by following the MS-MVP Richard G. Harper checklist: BAD MEMORY MODULES. Try inserting the command DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:ON into your CONFIG.SYS file with the System Editing utility and watch your computer for a message “HIMEM has detected unreliable memory at address xxxxxxxxx” which will certainly indicate that there is a memory problem. It may take several reboots over a period of days for this to show up. You can also download diagnostic software from AMI, or DocMemory from SIMMTester.com, to test your system’s memory. BAD VIDEO DRIVERS. Check with your video card manufacturer for an updated set of drivers. If they don’t have an update, check one of the driver sites here. CPU, BUS SPEED OR MULTIPLIER OVER CLOCKING. DON’T! FAULTY OR DIRTY COOLING FANS ON YOUR CPU OR POWER SUPPLY. The CPU fan can be cleaned with a small paintbrush and some compressed air. The power supply fan should be cleaned only by someone who is comfortable working around high voltage capacitor components. (If you are not sure if this is you — then trust me — it isn’t you.) My company has been a reseller coustomer for a few months now. When I set up the account, I was assuming it would be like any other reseller accounts where you were restricted on certian things like the amount of clients you can have, or they would take a part of the price that you charged. When I asked the person on AIM, if they took anything when I charged a customer and he said "nope, we sure don't." I was totally flabergasted! (speachless) I have been working on computers since my first personal computer back in 1978, and this is the first company that had ever told me this. My buisness is to construct highly personalized websites and hosting them is just another form of income for me. I was looking for an low out of pocket expense vs having to be forced to own and service my own dedicated servers and internet connections. But I found that through the control pannels, that It's more economical for me to host everything on your systems; leaving more time for me to construct, maintain, and look for new clients. The biggest feature that I really love is the Backup and Restore system for the complete site. I don't know who decided to go with this, but it's a god sent for me!
