I currently host three websites on TCH.

http://www.ryanscottottney.com - server 16

http://www.sciotospiritseekers.com - server 40

http://www.mediasharx.com - server 27

I've never had any problems retreiving my mail from these servers with my MICROSOFT OUTLOOK, but within the last week, I keep seeing errors.

It's not all the time either, but about 70% of the time, it asks me to verify my user/pass on both my MEDIASHARX and SCIOTOSPIRITSEEKERS mail - but never the RYANSCOTTOTTNEY mail.

So when I try to verify it and click REMEMBER PASSWORD and then OKAY ... nothing happens. It asks for it again. Repeating this cycle over and over and over again.

I just get the following message:

THERE WAS A PROBLEM LOGGING ONTO YOUR SERVER. YOUR USER NAME OR PASSWORD WAS REJECTED. SERVER RESPONSE, '-ERR: YOU HAVE EXCEEDED THE NUMBER OF CONNECTIONS YOU ARE PERMITTED TO MAKE AN HOUR. PLEASE WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN (ERROR NUMBER: 0x800ccc92).

But like I said ... the username/password is just fine, but it won't let me in. And don't tell me I'm making too many connections. Cause sometimes I will just turn my computer on and check my mail for the first time in 8 hours and still get this message.

What's up with that?

Hi,

Somewhere in the link between you and the server, its become logged and the session times out when your trying to get mail. As fustrating as this is, either use another mail program (for some reason outlook loves that message) or indeed, wait a while.

Sorry

I can't use any other E-mail program because I check them at work, and cannot download or install new programs.

Why couldn't TCH simply fix this problem, instead of asking me to either get a new program or learn to live with it? It's not like OUTLOOK is some exotic program. I'm sure many of your customers rely on it, and so it's possible that they too are having this problem. Should we ALL learn to live with it?

;)

If there is a problem to fix you need to submit a ticket at the Help Desk. Include the username and password for an account that is not working so that we can test it. We can do very little with these types of problems from the forums.

I did check the mail log that logs connections for one of the domains your mentioned and saw one account was connecting every two minutes over a period of time. Checking email every minute or two can cause several problems including locked mailboxes.

I use whatever settings are provided by my employer. I do believe he has it setup to check every few minutes, because of the timely and important nature of our work - it's important that we get the mail fast!

Not all of the mail in my Outlook is from TCH.

So what is a better time setting? 5 minutes? That's about the highest they would probably let me go, otherwise we could fall behind in our work by missing important messages!

And also, why is it ONLY affecting 2 of the 3 TCH sites? If this were the problem - too many connections - then wouldn't they ALL be affected equally, seeing that they're all checked simultaneously!

If I remember correctly from the time I had Outlook scanning multiple accounts, the number of minutes between mail checks is configured for each account. This may explain why 2 of 3 break and also will give you the tool to do your work mail often and the TCH mail less often.

Check under Tools/Options/Mail Setup/Send-Receive. I believe the settings will be there but we use a local exchange server here so I can't verify it for you.

I tell ya what, I had this very same problems and put in a help ticket on it...

Basically said, you run into problems with the server if it retrieves the mail too often. I had mine run every 2 minutes, and that was too fast. I tweaked my automatic mail retrieval and set it to every 5 minutes, and I haven't had a problem since.

This, however, is not an end-all limitation. If you absolutely have to, you can manually send-retrieve.

For some reason we are seeing corrupt mail boxes on accounts that people are checking once per minute.

So Bill has a brainstorm... Limit the inbound pop3 connections per account.

Bad idea. Sorry.

I removed the limitations the very next morning as I could see it was causing to many people to become upset.

*TCH-Dick made bad choice. ;)

Ah, so we can go back to 1 check per minute? lol...

How about making a suggestion not to check more than once every 5 minutes? You could still allow us to check more often, but make some formal suggestion to the users not to have it check too often, because it could corrupt the mailbox...

Hi, I am a newbie for sure.

I just joined TCH and the forums. I had a similar problem with Outlook. I had everything setup properly or so I thought.. (and by the way GREAT JOB with all of the explanations and information out here/there you all). I had my DNS changed and I set up OE (Outlook Express) for my wife with no problems, although clicking on that automatic setup did not work for me.

Outlook is the progarm that I use and it just would not log on... I got that same basic error message... the difference was "bad login". Over and over this was happening. I tried going in and changing all of the text I had written for the account information in case "murphy" was visiting and I was not seeing something correctly. I have mine checking every 10 minutes. I thought maybe it was the password or something so I checked by setting up the same Account in OE to see if it would work... and it did! So I completely deleted the mail account I had originally set up in Outlook and then set the same account up again... same info and everything... and now it works. Go figure. I have no idea why but it did work. I don't even know if it is pertinent, but I was reading through the forums for help so I just thought I would chime in.

I have had this experience with both Outlook and Outlook Express. Simply deleting the Mail Account and rebuilding it usually does the trick.

Why it happens though, I haven't a clue.
