jscfan Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 Hello everyone Before I decide to sign-up to move my site over to you guys, I have a few questions: 1. When I sign-up for one of your hosting packages (which all are pretty good btw) I can start off by paying monthly instead of yearly right? In other words, if I choose the Silver Plan (500MB) my first initial charge will be $5.00, right? 2. Is it really that easy to install the forums you guys provide by a click of a button? Seriously is that all? I like phpbb... 3. I'm gonna register a new domain, should I do that first before signing up with TotalChoice? 4. How come I can't test drive your cPanel? It's not working for some reason. 5. And one last question, I noticed how one can register a domain with an option of having it privately registered thru DomainsByProxy I guess to keep the registrants (me) personal info private when someone does a WHOIS. Is this really true? And does it really work? Sorry for all the questions, but all that will help me decide my future with TotalChoice. Thank you! Quote
jscfan Posted August 29, 2003 Author Posted August 29, 2003 sorry for the double post, I had forgot to "Enable email notification of replies" Quote
TCH-Sales Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 1. When I sign-up for one of your hosting packages (which all are pretty good btw) I can start off by paying monthly instead of yearly right? In other words, if I choose the Silver Plan (500MB) my first initial charge will be $5.00, right? That's right you have your choice to pay by month or by year on the regular plans! 2. Is it really that easy to install the forums you guys provide by a click of a button? Seriously is that all? I like phpbb... It's just that easy! All you do is name the folder you want it to be in, and hit "Go!" The rest of the work is done for you automatically. 3. I'm gonna register a new domain, should I do that first before signing up with TotalChoice?Just by personal preferance, I'd say register the domain name first, then the domain space. Really doesn't matter though. 4. How come I can't test drive your cPanel? It's not working for some reason. Our cPanel test drive is controlled by cPanel itself so we have no control on when it's up or not. 5. And one last question, I noticed how one can register a domain with an option of having it privately registered thru DomainsByProxy I guess to keep the registrants (me) personal info private when someone does a WHOIS. Is this really true? And does it really work? Private registered domains hide your contact information from Whois searches. This is just handy if you don't want other people to trace you as the owner of the site. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away! Looking forward to seeing you in the TotalChoice Hosting family! Quote
TCH-Don Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 First Welcome! if you need anything, just ask. You can see more about the cpanel on the Total Choice Web Hosting Help Site as well as a lot more information on all the features offered here. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 On the private registration. It keeps down on the SPAM as well. Also DBP makes it incredibly secure, most of the time your information can not be given out without a court order. Read the rules of the road though to be sure its what you want. Quote
jscfan Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 thank you so much for all the info and replies guys, I really appreciate it. And it's really nice to know that anytime you have a question there is always someone with the answers one last question, I'm about to register my domain with godaddy.com and once I do that is it really easy to set it up to where my domain will point to my new site with totalchoice? I don't know if asked the question correctly... Quote
TCH-Rick Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 In godaddy you can just log into your domain management section and set the nameservers to the ones that are given to you in the Welcome Email and it wioll work fine. Quote
jscfan Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 that info will be on the Welcome email I get from TotalChoice right? If I come up with more questions as I go I will post them. Thanks again! And I hope to be part of the TotalChioce family in the next few days... Quote
TCH-JimE Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Hi, Yes that information should be in the welcome email Jim Quote
jscfan Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 thanks for the reply Jim. Got another question (sorry for asking to many of them, but I just want make sure and all). When I register my domain either thru godaddy or thru TCH if for some reason I move my site (along with my domain) somewhere else in the future. Is the only change I would need to make from my end to make the move official to any other hosting company is to change the nameservers on my domain management section? Quote
TCH-Sales Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Yes, you are right. If you were to move your hosting somewhere else, all you'd need to do is change the name servers at the register to your point at your new account. Quote
jscfan Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 Thumbs Up great thanks for all the replies. Rock Sign Here's the last one, how long has TCH been in operations? Quote
TCH-JimE Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 Hi, Whilst I don't know the exact answer to that, I do know its more then 3 years now. Also with the amount of experience that all the Gurus and technicans bring to the company, I would say our web hosting experience easily stretches into the upper hundreds of years! Jim Quote
jscfan Posted September 4, 2003 Author Posted September 4, 2003 ok cool, that answers my question. I officially became a TCH Silver Plan member last night around 10-11p and I have only received 2 emails so far. Do you know how long till I get my Welcome email? I'm so excited I can't wait... woooot Quote
TCH-JimE Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 (edited) Hi, You should recieve your welcome email within 12 hours. If its beyond 24 hours then please let us know and we can resend it out to you Jim Edited September 4, 2003 by Jimuni Quote

TCH-Rick Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 Usernames are generated by the system and generally use the first 7 letters of the domain name. Quote
jscfan Posted September 5, 2003 Author Posted September 5, 2003 here is another question... during the domain propagation process (I already changed the DNS at godaddy to those on my welcome email) which I believe usually takes 24-72hrs. Is it normal to not see my free parked domain page from godaddy for my url? I now get a page cannot be found something like that... here is my domain: http://www.jscfan.com Quote
jscfan Posted September 5, 2003 Author Posted September 5, 2003 oh lookey there, it works now...man the whole registering domain & signing-up process was very quick! Thumbs Up Rock Sign Quote
