Thats ok I didn't know it until I wanted to update my modded 1.1 RC3 to 1.1 final :|
-
Actually you cannot update to 1.1 final from within the admin, you have to manually replace the files. The do offer a single file webinstaller now.

Question is is the version of SMF Fantistico installs 1.0.9, 1.1 or something older and exploitable? I'm betting on the latter.

People still use Word? Another reason to switch to Open Office or similar.

Mpaa Wants To Bill You If You Have A Home Theatre
carbonize replied to youneverknow's topic in Open Discussion
I think they should be less concerned about the size of my TV and more concerned about whats on my computer. Errrr if you work for the MPAA or RIAA ignore the above -
Up until recently I only ever used a single database for all the scripts I run. It was only when testing SMF for the Lazarus support forums that I created a new database to test with and decided to keep it once live. Anyway I'm glad you got the problem sorted but not as glad as I am that it's not a problem with Lazarus it's self as that would of meant work for me

No I blocked the downloading of executables as well as archived files on their laptops. They also only have user level access to the laptops. If they want anything installing they have to ask me. If they want to download something they have to use the desktop.

Thankfully they aint that computer savvy so I'm not that concerned about them figuring out workarounds. That and I'm logging everything anyway.

The simple HTML 'cloak' needs some work. It only uses decimal. The encryption I use in Lazarus randomly uses decimal, hex or nothing when encrypting email addresses just to try and make it a little bit harder for the harvesters.

Put everything in a div then use CSS to set the divs width and then set it to margin: 0 auto;.
-
To fix the error messages you need to login to admin and change the path names in many many places (trust me i renamed the folder once and then spent ages changing it in admin in about 10 places). Why not just stick with Forum and change any links to it?

Without seeing the actual email in full I couldn't even take a guess.
-
Sure it was plain text? But then most email clients now prevent the displaying of remote images so you should of got the request bar.
-
You should off added the -b switch to the netstat command to show what application was making the request.

Password Vulnerability In Firefox And Maybe Ie As Well
carbonize replied to PeterPeter's topic in Security Discussions
When I first read the story I laughed because it's the usual case of a journalist reporting half truths and blowing things out of proportions to sell a story. He seems to inicate that now browsers have phishing alerts people have suddenly forgotten the years of anti phishing advice they have had drummed into them. As to Firefoxs password function going off the domain as opposed to the full url I'd say this was the writers choice as opposed to a flaw. So the 'problem' definetely exists in Firefox but possibly not in IE so he goes and informs the Microsoft for whom it may not be an issue but apparently does not inform Mozilla? I have yet to see a forum script that would allow this type of HTML to be posted. -
My employer uses Smoothwall for their proxy and it can block by domain or by words contained in the pages requested. It also has a pathetic extension blocker which they have set to block such things as .zip, .mp3 and so on. Stupid thing is it just checks the extension and not the mime type so you just change the extension.

There is no way around Content Protect as it sits at the socket level and can only be disabled/uninstalled using a password.
-
Thanks for the suggestion but I've gone ahead and got a Linksys router and purchased Content Protect to sit on the laptops.

They do have an official domain for it. www.trillianastra.com I think. About time they released some info on it. I do notice a lot of Trillian to Trillian stuff as wel as connecting to their servers a lot. Sounds like a way of trying to cut down on piracy as well as social networking rubbish.

The old fashioned way was to use a table with the relevant align="center" and valign="center" attributes where relevant. Fixed width sites are going to become the norm before to long due to the increase in widescreens. I mean my stats show the avarage screen width is 1024 but there is still about 20% using 800px and about 18% using 1200px width. You could possibly make a site that looks good on all three when using a dynamic width but then you get widescreen monitors that would really stretch your pages look. I personally still design with 800x600 in mind and tend to fix the width at 760px but I will rethink this in the near future depending on my stats.

Try changing <a href=" ' target='_blank' rel='noopener'> title="Furry Friends"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/116/295761517_43973e45ee.jpg?v=0"'>http://static.flickr.com/116/295761517_43973e45ee.jpg?v=0" alt="Peep" width="93" height="100" border=3" style="float:left"/></a> to <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/27934894@N00/295761517/" title="Furry Friends"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/116/295761517_43973e45ee.jpg?v=0" alt="Peep" width="93" height="100" border=3" style="float:left; margin:3px;"/></a> As you see I just put the CSS into the tag with your other CSS. BTW thats one fat hamster.

Not that I recommend MS products but Frontpage is no longer supported and instead MS are rolling out Expressions. Whilst in beta the Expressions HTML editor is free to use. I personally didn't like it but it's another option for you.

A lot of sites use old versions of scripts that have not been updated because either they don't bother to update them or the script is no longer updated. If TC updated to PHP5 a lot of scripts could possibly stop working which would result in a lot of tickets/complaints. My own script works fine on both PHP4 and PHP5 but it's only a simple guestbook script and no where near as complex as such things as a forum, blog, wiki etc. Once TC do update to PHP 5 they then face the question of do they switch from using MySQL functions to using the newer MySQLi functions which are more efficient but again would cause a lot of scripts to stop working (mine included). And then there is the question of updating to MySQL 5.

Basically you'll have to make it so th escript only allows if the referer is the allowed site or if it is blank.
