  1. Your welcome Bruce Gallery happens to be one thing I do know my way around. Lets hope it does daven some good
  2. Hi icadmin, It will most likely be cookie problems with your computer. Do you have access another computer you can try form, or have someone else try from their computer? HTH, Tom
  3. Hi daven, You can set permissions on a album by album basis. When you are logged into Gallery as an admin, in the 'Album Actions' selection box, select 'permissions'. You can add/delete individual users and or groups, such as 'logged in', which means you must be logged in to view the album. Of course you will have to create users, which can be done from the 'manage users' link, which is visable when you are logged in as admin. HTH, Tom
  4. Hi robok, I installed Gallery v2 beta 3 a month ago http://www.tomowa.net/gallery2_0b3/main.php, and it was quite simple compared to the v1.xx versions. The exact install procedures don't come to mind right now, but I'll look into it this evening if you don't have it solved by then. There is always the obvious to double check, such as the MySQL settings. Needing a database is new to Gallery v2.xx. Just a FYI Bruce, the install tutorial won't apply to version 2, it is a completely new animal , and light years easier to install HTH, Tom
  5. My opinion is just keep quiet and do what you want. If your selling some space to a few friends, and regulators consider that a 'business', well then they will next be going after anybody who sells a few good's on Ebay from their home. Do you need a business license to sell you accumulated garage junk, or Grandma's estate? To me, if what you do requires IRS reporting, then you better be a legal business. Just my 2¢, Tom
  6. Thanks for all your thoughts David. I do have my first bought computer--a Mom and Pop shop made, that has an ASUS P5A-B MB in it, and it has been running non stop since 1998 (wow, that is 7 years!) So I certainly believe in the quality of ASUS. Actually my Micron here, I bought from their refurb department, along with a P3 800 for my son, back in 2001. I have been very happy with them. In fact if I do this building my own, I'm going to use my existing case here, and move it's guts another ATX case I have that is just collecting dust. I have my 'shopping cart' already to go, and it will be easier to tell my wife I'm 'just buying some parts' instead of I'm 'buying a new computer' LOL. But then I say, why not just use the new goodies and rebuild the existing P3 866, and keep it going......Isn't life's decisions tough Good Day, Tom
  7. Hi all, I'm looking to update my 'main desktop' here, which is (well it was when I bought it) a Micron Milliennia PIII 866mhz. I am awful tempted to just buy a new Micron http://www.mpccorp.com (even though the $ are high compared to 'mainstream PC manufactures) just because of my time factor in building one. But I have been buying new parts the last six months as they have been on sale, and have 2 brand new in the boxes WD 160gb hard drives and an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 128mb AGP video card sitting here, so I might as well use them. Motherboards and processors are where I have not kept up on as far what's the latest greatest etc though. I'm looking at this Asus motherboard here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&Tab=0&NoMapp=0 and Intel processor here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...=CP1-P4-540%20C. Also power supply http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...32&sku=V13-3002. I chose that Asus MB because of the Intel chipsets, Intel is supposed to be 'stable' I'm presuming, but whether any more so than VIA or Asus etc I don't know. The Intel MB's I found are all going to the PCI express, I didn't find any with AGP. My memory will be Crucial http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp...5P800&submit=Go, starting off with 2 512mb sticks. Then XP Pro OS. I'm not into gaming, but just want stability, although at sometime I hope to do some DVD authoring of old family VHS tapes. I guess PCI Express is the latest in technology, but then I wouldn't be able to use the ATI AGP video card. But hey, at least I am a lot close to 'the latest' setup than I have been in a few years. I'm just curious if anyone has any comments good or bad on my plan here....I can do this for $700, plus the parts I have already. They alway's say buying new is cheaper than building, but for whatever reason, thinking of me buying a 'big box name brand' of computer just doesn't rub me right. But if I did, it would be the Micron again, made here in small town USA of Boise Idaho, and they do their own tech support here in USA, not from half way round the world. Thanks for reading, Tom
  8. Hi Stacy, Glad to see your having fun learning , isn't it fun. As Don said, everything on the server goes into the 'public_html' folder, and there is a difference from the 'Public_html' you just mentioned. I have never used a 'web page creator', so I cannot comment on how they work. Learning the basics of HTML from scratch will help tremendously when it comes to understanding the in's and out's of how and why concerning web page and site creation. Then once you understand the basic concepts, move into a WYSIWYG creator, as then you have some knowledge to be able to de-bug why things don't work. I learned from this tutorial here http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/primers/html/ , and went from there. I certainly understand your exurberance in wanting to get something published, that's what makes it fun, seeing your work online and telling the world to come see it
  9. Hi Stacy, If there is not an index.html file in your public_html folder, just go ahead and FTP up your index page there anyway. You should then see your page, by just typing in your domain name, ie www.my domain.com. This is if your domain name has been registered and propagated through out domain name servers. HTH, Tom
  10. Well better late than never I find my way back here Yep, as you found out, file name's on unix server's are case-sensitve. In the cpanel 'index manager', it must list 'index', and not 'Index' as appropiate index files. I figured out a few years back (after being in the same situation as you were), that is is best to always use lower case file names, and don't use spaces in file names, but use the underscore _ if you need to break up a name to be easily readable. Good Evening, Tom
  11. Hi Blacksmith, The 'homepage' will need to have a file name of 'index', and an extension of .htm, .hmtl, or .php, such as index.html Otherwise you need to spell out the exact path to the file you want. HTH, Tom
  12. I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted a bit ago, so here is the full story. Dick pointed out to me in the PM to me this: Using the tar path of /bin/tar does work everytime Using the zip path of /usr/bin/zip was not working this morning for Dick or I, but now it is. Go figure Well I consider this solved, and I doubt anyone has even used the backup feature in Gallery, the way it is buried to even find it lol. ~Tom
  13. I better get a reply here before people think I'm ignoring Dick. He and I went back and forth on a PM, for it involved a password. Bottom line is, using the path that Dick spelled out for me, I did one time get the 'Zip' format backup to work, also at one time I did get the 'gzip' format to work. It was just something to play with, to see the 'how and why it works' Thanks Dick
  14. Thanks Thomas for that info I had used Squirrel Mail when on my previous webhost. When my sites were moved here, the link I was using to access Squirrel Mail did not work here at TCH, but I could get the NeoMail to work. But that simple URL you were aware of works like a charm. Thanks for that Good day (well evening for you..), Tom
  15. Greetings, I'm playing around with the 'Gallery backup function' script, as stated here. http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=...dmin.backup.php Attached is a screenshot of info it need's. Are these required 'binaries' (I believe thats the term) installed on TCH servers, and if so, what would they be? Or better yet, how can a person determine what the paths are, is there a script to run that will detect the paths? Thanks for any ideas, Tom
  16. Hi YMe369, I can log straight into Neomail by a link such as I have on this page here for my family to use. http://www.tomowa.com/neomail.htm. I think I tried that Horde script also, with the same results, which is why I ended up with Neomail. Hi Jason, just curious, is there any issues with Neomail, that one should be concerned using it, or are you just surprised it is used at all HTH, Tom
  17. Hi kiwicra, That sure help's knowing what forum you are using When you are logged in as an admin, and viewing a forum (not the main index page), on the very bottom right of a page, you will see a 'You can moderate this forum' link. Clicking there will get you into the moving of forums into different categories. HTH, Tom
  18. Hi Jack, If you had some specific's, we could help out with specific answers What forum script are you using, and do you have a URL we could see? All forums I know of, require at least one category, then you can have multiple forums under that category, then in that forum, multiple topics. You can then create new categories, and move existing forums into the new category. HTH, Tom
  19. Hi Valerie, Either format will work, just don't use .avi, they are gigantic file size. My friend Gail, who is a member here at TCH, put together this page http://www.homegail.com/downscript/index.php to offer up viewing/downloads of files. It uses a script available here http://www.ironclad.net/scripts/ Gail then did some work to spruce up the page and it looks very nice What the script does is list files and offer them to either view, or download to a desired location on the viewers computer. Very cool. Looks much neater than a HTML page with just links on it. HTH, Tom
  20. Hey that's how I learned about phpbb, trial and error. This is what I like about phpbb, it is so easy to modify compared to Invision. ><span class="maintitle">{SITENAME}</span><br /><span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span> The 'sitename' etc, contained in the '{___}' are values pulled from what you enter on the phpbb configuation page. What ever is there, is what is displayed. You could go like this if desired ><span class="maintitle"><a href="http://www.mywebsite.com">{SITENAME}</a></span><br /><span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span> That way you keep the 'standard' look, but making it clickable. Yes, Notepad can have 'formatting' problems with the '.tpl' files, also .php files. I use EditPad Pro here http://www.editpadpro.com/ Be warned that phpbb seems to be the 'forum of choice' for all the evil do'ers at trying to hack it. phpbb comes out with new updates quite often, so keep up on them. Well Enjoy , Tom
  21. Hi dderolph, Yes you can, quite simple with a little HTML knowledge. The file to edit is the 'overall_header.tpl', located in the 'templates' directory of your phpbb install. If you are still using the 'stock' skin, then the theme directory to look in is the 'subSilver'. It is in this file you can change the file name of the logo upper left. Looking on through the code you will see the image tags for the icons etc, to get your self an idea where you are at on the page. HTH, hollar back if you need more help Tom
  22. Hi Weezy, Well it figures it's a bit different error than I ususally get. >Error messages:: sh: line 1: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory It is saying, that whatever 'process' the config.php is telling it to use to 'manipulate' the image, cannot be found at that location. That location is something set on the server, something you or I would have no control over. But I imagine it has something to do with the paths spelled out in the config.php file for 'netpbm' or 'imagemagick' that it leading to the error. At the Gallery site that Gail pointed out I found these http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=...install.faq.c.2 Yep Thomas is right, and Gail has convinced me Coppermine is easier to install (and I know you know this too Weezy), but I just like to pain myself with the Gallery buggaboos It will be late evening before I can get back at this. Do you have another Gallery install, on the same server, that works? If so, you can look at its config.php, and find what is different as far as 'graphic' manipulators and the paths to them. Have fun at it today Tom
  23. Hi Weezy, FTP into youre gallery/config.php file, and down around line 105 or so find the line >$gallery->app->debug = "yes"; make sure it is set to yes. This puts Gallery into 'debugging mode. Then do an image upload again. This time when it fails it will list a bunch of reasons. If you could include the errors here I'm sure I can solve it Tom
  24. Thanks Don, for that info Thats neat to know. Take a complete full featured website with you Are we geeky or what LOL. I use the server package from http://www.yellowtip.com/products/yellowtipws.php
