  1. phpBB list the minimum requirements as follows: All these things are mystical Chinese sorcery terms to me. I assume, because TCH rocks so much, that it meets the minimum requirements, right? My real question is the optional requirements to access additional features, which of those does TCH support? And is that support automatically built in, up and running or is is just supported if the customer installs it?
  2. The new phpBB version 3.0 is being released today and it looks awesome! As soon as my necessary mods are released...and 3.01 (always wait for the X.01)...I'll be upgrading.
  3. Slashdot crowd seems unimpressed.
  4. You must have caught Alex on a lunch break...assuming he's human and takes breaks. He resolved...not responded...but resolved my support ticket in 3 minutes from time of submission!!!
  5. Bummer...that's what I was afraid of, it's not working here at work. Oh well, I'll install it at home. Thanks again for the help.
  6. Bingo! That exactly what I'm looking for...thanks! Now trying to configure...I may have trouble since my employer has shut down our system pretty tight. I can only get to TCH email via http://domain-name.com/sqmail, although I have no problem with gmail. I can't access cpanel or ftp accounts from work either...will I still be able to use this? If so, what do I put in for "Server" and what "port" do I select, default is 110? I tried mail.domain-name.com and 110 and received: "Connect Error: Socket Error # 10060 Connection times out." Thanks again for your help.
  7. I love the little program Gmail Notifier. It runs unobtrusively in my windows system tray and alerts me when I get a new email in my gmail account. Is there an equivalent program that will notify of new mail in my TCH account? FWIW I'm using SquirrelMail. (Not interested in workarounds such as forwarding my mail to my gmail account.) Thanks.
  8. Don and I exchanged some emails regarding the similarity of our cats and he helped me identify the likely breed of my stray. Very nice guy. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
  9. My email was giving me the following error messages: ...which translated roughly means the email Gods are not happy...or something. Anyway, the problem was fixed by the TCH Support Desk, Alex Spaford, in just 3 minutes! Note, the response that TCH was working on it did not come in 3 minutes...the actual fix was done in 3 minutes after submission of the ticket. If that's not world class tech support, I don't know what is.
  10. FWIW...it takes 9 seconds to load from Tulsa, Oklahoma, which felt about average (also downloading some podcasts in the background).
  11. I recently came across a hosting company offering $7/mo, 300GB space, unlimited domains, 3,000 GB transfer, fee domain forever, tons of other unbelievable crap. I then checked out a random site hosted by them...a small personal site...without much traffic...and after poking around for a while I got a warning screen saying the site had exceeded its allotted server load (or something similar). I have found this to be a frequent "gotcha" to the sky's-the-limit plans. There is no point in unlimited space/transfer/deals if they throttle your site down to uselessness. TCH has absolutely incredible support, from the tech dept, to these forums, to Head Guru. For those who recognize the value of support, there is no better bargain...and I have looked! Like anyone else, I'd like more space and/or multiple domains on the same plan, but every time I've looked and investigated, I've found some shortcoming that leaves TCH the clear choice. That said, I do have another "micro" account at another hosting company where I consolidate a number of domains which collectively require next to zero space/bandwidth/support.

  14. Nope. Neither of those work for me. Any other options? Proxy?
  15. Thanks Andy and Dick and the awesome people (Kate) at TCH Tech Support! The email is fixed and I'm now able to access it from work...hypothetically. Now, is there a way to access cpanel other than http://www.domain-name.com/cpanel/ ?
  16. Tried and got this: Of course, I substituted my domain name. Any other ideas?
  17. Hypothetically, because I'd never do personal stuff at work...I can't access cpanel or email while at work. I understand that I could use a proxy to do so, but that would require sending my username/password through the proxy. Is there an approved, trusted or safe proxy or an alternative that would allow me to access my domain's email that I'm not aware of?

  20. I think I could do everything manually except for the database associated tasks. Databases scare me...MySQL, YourSQL, WhaeverSQL, it's all "magic" to me. As I understand it, and the reason I use Fantastico, is that it handles all the database tasks, avoids conflicts between installations and cleans everything up on uninstall. I frequently install stuff, play around and uninstall it. With Fantastico, I've never had a problem and never had to touch a database. (Except some minor stuff with phpBB.)
  21. ARRRGH!!!!! I updated fantversion.php to reflect my manual upgrade to WordPress 2.2.1 and I got this email this morning: Fantastico thinks I need to upgrade 2.2.1 to 2.2. I hate computers!
  22. heyguy & Bruce... ... ... ... ... Now manual update includes one additional step...update of fantversion.php. Thanks.
  23. I too have gotten three or four emails telling me to update a WordPress installation that I've updated manually the day the update came out. So, just to confirm....my/our only options are turn off email notifications or update using Fantastico? I like the email updates in case I miss an update manually, but don't want to wait the sometimes weeks for Fantastico to get the updates.

    Silly Question

Thanks for the PM Bruce, I'm back to Zero.
  25. Way to go Andy. Every time I think about other hosting companies that offer more [fill in the blank], I am reminded of the great support TCH provides which includes these forums and the awesome moderators here.
