I use Movable Type and prefer it for a number of reasons, but I recommend WordPress to others just starting out.

1) In the name of my productivity and sleep, I hereby call for the elimination of the "Fun and Games" forum. 2) "Expert" might as well just be a regular crossword puzzle without any freakin' clues...it kicked my butt.

Ordered a new desktop Friday...long story short...Windows XP Professional.

Now that is a very mature statement...and very unusual for the internet. It's one thing for someone to have always done "right" (whatever that is) because they always believed that was the course of action to pursue...but an entirely different thing for someone to intellectually come to the conclusion that their course of action was incorrect and that they should change their ways. To me, at least, that is the person with the higher morals, one who acts against his national disposition to do what is right. Well played stevesh.

<start sarcasm> I don't think you fully understand computers and the internet. If you can download something on the internet...it's yours. Copying is not stealing if you wouldn't have bought it anyway or if it's priced too high or if the money would go to someone evil. Vandalizing a website and causing the owner to incur expenses in restoring things is not like vandalizing a real business. It's all just one's and zeros so chill out. All those words that come with programs don't mean anything. Copyright is just a tool of government and business to oppress the masses. Anything big is evil. It's OK as long as I'm a student. If it sucks, you don't have to pay for it. If you're forced to use it, you don't have to pay for it. No harm, no foul. If a rule is stupid, you don't have to follow it. And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, Hey! what gives you the right To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner Sign Sign everywhere a sign Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign CSN&Y man!!! </end sarcasm>

I can't tell you all enough how much I appreciate your early adoption...looking forward to 2.5.1.

I was one of the first to post in the contest thread, I called Kish a crack dealer for giving away the dedicated hosting package. While I would have loved the second and third place prizes, I didn't want the grand prize...so I didn't enter. What a freaking simple concept.

Oh good golly, don't mistake trial-and-error-move-a-pixel-to-the-right-try-a-hundred-times-more for being smart. Not so "smart" how much time I've spend on this.

MOREBLOONS: Level 47 ridiculously hard. Level 48, only one precision shot required after you figure out puzzle. 49...stuck...no idea.
-
-
Stuck on level 46 now. 42 was difficult. 44 just takes time...you have to get lucky to get one side, then you have to get lucky again to do the other side...eventually, you will get lucky on both sides (maybe you have skill...I just have luck). 45 isn't too bad, use Pac Man to eat up all the brown bricks then two arrows into the ballons will get you the 20 you need.

Wearing the crown of TotalChoice King of Pool Tables may come with its own unintended consequences, like the Twilight Zone episode A Game of Pool with Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters. Closing narration:

Hate this game...especially the fact that it remembers what level I'm on so I can keep playing rather than use the excuse, "Well, I'm not starting all over" when I go back the next day. Now stuck on level 44, but I blame inconsistencies in how the monkey shoots his arrows on this level.
-
Serious time waster. Level 42...bunch of ice baloons freesing everything before other baloons could be popped. There is a Pacman to be used at earlier levels...be quick on the arrow keys.

Level 9. I like this site to practice U.S. states as well as other nations and cities/capitals. It is very well geared to leaning as the levels progress naturally and you can pick specific regions to practice/learn: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm

The auto updater in QuickTime (mine at least) says there is no update available and I'm just at 7.4. Why don't they tweak that simultaneously with the release, do they stagger auto updating to reduce server load or is there just always a delay between website release and auto update realization? Also, I'd just like to vent at the fact that updating QT always installs a desktop icon, a quick launch icon and alters the preferences to start up in some media center mode...all of which should be check the box type stuff but has not been in the past. Such practices, altering preferences, file associations, installing anything even just an icon ought to be illegal and seriously punishable. /vent over

To respond to your points: Convenience: not more convenient than a credit card to use and, as shown here and many other examples much much more inconvenient when things go wrong. People with bad credit: these people constitute only a tiny fraction of those using debit cards and almost all of those with bad credit could get a secured credit card and, by doing so, start to build their credit rating Can't control the urge to spend it's limit: so wouldn't they also be unable to control spending what's in their bank account? Again, a secured credit card should be a remedy. You don't understand why people use checks: close, I don't understand people that carry checks around with them. Only when buying a Christmas tree each year is it cash or check only...otherwise leave the checks at home and carry a credit card. Finally, in comparing debit and credit cards there is no downside to having a credit card over a debit card but many many reasons not to use debit cards. If self-control is a problem, carry a credit card and a check register and deduct the amount of each purchase from your bank account as you make it. I know someone who did this when money was real tight for him and doing it overcomes any argument that might exist in favor of using debit cards. Consumer advocates did not get together and create debit cards...banks, who are in the business of making money (not that there's anything wrong with that) created debit cards to make more money. There will always be people who use debit cards, drink bottled water, buy name-brand medicines, play the lottery and host their websites someplace other than TCH. God bless their foolish little souls.

I've never understood the purpose of a check card. I can't imagine why people use them.

High Marks For The Tech Support Staff
DWD replied to clayartisan's topic in Reviews of TotalChoice Hosting
Agreed...the support staff here, behind the scenes and in these forums is unparalleled! -
Just saw a video of some guy setting a world record distance jump on a motorcycle some 300+ feet, he was really hauling when he whet off the ramp, landed on the biggest landing ramp I've ever seen in my life, looked like a small mountain. All I could think was...yeah, try that on a Harley with no suspension, a relatively tiny landing ramp with concrete barriers waiting for you at the end. There will never be another Evel Knievel...a showman, a stuntman, a daredevil, a rebel rouser who would unapologetically beat your a$$ if you spoke ill of him and his family...and a Christian before his death. RIP...my childhood hero.

I use the Firefox addon/extension Save As Image for similar purposes, works great.

You could keep your main profitable site with TCH and then host all others elsewhere, that way you would still have awesome support with the site that needs it most. This is what I do, main site with TCH, four others with another cheapo host with a micro-account where I don't need world class support.
