Thanks, At least you didn't manage to steal the content I had set it so that it just gives them a dummy file with their IP address - having worked out the code, I could fairly easily get it to edit the .htaccess file and deny their IP. My problem then was deciding if I bother to allow them access again at some later date... My overall view was that if they end up with a hard disk full of rubbish after trying to steal my pages then I don't mind I've had 3 folk take a full copy of my web site in the last 2 weeks, so was starting to get frustrated.... Doesn't sound good Have you had a look at the content in the files - hopefully I may be saved, and only the first 7 or 8 actually have something in - other than an error message. Andy

I just went into Cpanel, and noticed a new addition - Raw Log Manager, which gives you the option to copy the log file to your root dirctory at the end of every month. it might have been there for ages and I hadn't noticed of course I for one will find it really useful, Thankyou. TCH Rocks Andy

Hi, I seem to remember from when I set it up, The user is something like "cmontec2_user" The database is .... "cmontec2_database" and the password does not have the "cmontec2_" on the front of it. not sure if that helps, but I know I'd missed the "cmontec2_" equivalent off my database name. (this is me assuming that "cmontec2" is the first eight characters of your domain). Andy

I've thrown together a bit of php code which checks for to many hits from the same IP address, and then blocks it for a given amount of time. It seems to work, but would welcome someone trying to grab http://www.mycoted.com/test/norobot/index.php If it works I'll happily tidy up the code a bit and publish it here, then the experts, rather than beginners like me, can sort it out properly Would anyone like to guess what sensible figures for times are. At the moment I will block (for 30s) anyont hitting the test site more than 6 times in 2 seconds. I want to make sure I don't stop google or any other friendly robot Andy

File Manager In Cpanel Does Not Open Files..?
TCH-Andy replied to Ray_Bman's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Ray, you are using the icon to navigate rather than the text are you? clicking on the text link allows you to set properties etc. whereas clicking on the folder icons allows you to navigate. Can you navigate to any other areas? Andy -
There are a couple of ways, 1. If you set your default address (in Cpanel, in the E-mail section) to :blackhole: or :fail: then all email sent to any address other than ones you have defined will be deleted or bounced to the orriginator. 2. You could use Spam Assassin - again in Cpanel in the E-mail section to either mark potential spam (so that you can then manually delete it, or you can set it up to delete stuff it thinks is spam. Thanks Tracy, ykol20, I think there is the answer to 2.5Mb of problem, that file needs to be much smaller for dial-up connections. Either that or let your friends know to ignore that page and skip straight into the rest of the site Andy
-
Odd, seems to work on my site. try typing "www.mycoted.com" and then "/garbage/more_garbage" or some such thing and see if my error page comes up with the effect you are after. Andy

Sorry, after what seemed like about 2Mb of trying to download http://207.44.242.2/~nchaloc/officialsiteintro.swf my system seemed to give up on it. Maybe someone with a faster connection can check the size of that file, but my connection seemed to be running well, just the shear size that made it slow. Once I'd given up and hit skip intro the rest of the site loaded fine. Andy

ykol20, Not sure about the no big files - your front page has the following file; which seems to be huge I'm on a dial-up connection, currently running at 46,667bps, so far downloaded over 1Mb and still going strong, I'll let you know when I get to the end, but this file is way to big for us poor folk on dial-up connections Andy

Boxturt, Should do the trick I think. Andy

On second thoughts... It is probably better, and easier, just to create a blank file called formIE.css in the forums directory. That way will get rid of your errors, and if you did want to modify the style you could put the style information into the file. Andy
-
Hi, On your forum (in the code) you have the line which tries to import the style sheet formIE.css. As you say, this file does not exist. The error for this would be a "404" error, which I guess you have redirected to "404.shtml" which does not exist either... The easiest way round it and to stop the errors is probably to remove the line of code @import url("formIE.css"). unless of course it has styles in you want to use Andy

Hi, I have a page that has changed it's name from reverse.htm to prob-reverse.htm. I just opened the .htaccess file in my public_html directory (which was empty) and added the line; Redirect permanent /creativity/techniques/reverse.htm /creativity/techniques/prob-reverse.htm unfortunately this seems to have no effect other than stop the whole site working I removed it again fairly quickly where am I going wrong? Hi, Go into "My Controls" at the top of the page and then "Edit avatar settings" you can either select one of the existing pictures or download a small picture of your own. Andy
