Hi Shane and welcome to our forums A Help Desk ticket is not paid and you can submit as many as you want. It's simply a system to track problems users may have. When you have a problem with your server/account, you go to the help desk and ask for help - submit a help desk ticket, which is basically filling out a form with some info about the problem. That way users have a safe place where they can give their password to the tech staff without worrying about other people seing it, as it would happen if we'd use the forums for that kind of support. Besides, as you have probably seen by now, we talk about LOTS of things here, so it would be a real mess trying to take care of helping customers here. Thomas, you didn't make it sound like that, I just didn't want you (or anyone else reading this) to think that that's what I was trying to do Thanks, Andy Do keep in mind that Gaim has some limitations, like not supporting video conference (does Trillian support that now?), or file transfers in AIM/ICQ (file transfers work in IRC, MSN and Yahoo but not on AIM/ICQ. Haven't tried the others), so if you really need those functionalities, you may still want to stay with Trillian. It's also not as pretty as Trillian, pretty much due to the fact that it doesn't support skinning, unfortunately Still, I like it better

You don't need to use any plugins at all, Gaim supports MSN Messenger, AIM/ICQ and Yahoo Messenger (along with a few others) right out of the box. It's just a matter of selecting the type of network you want to connect to (MSN, AIM/ICQ, IRC, Yahoo, Jabber, etc), fill in the screen name (username) and password. You can leave all the rest at their default values, unless you know you need to change something. Can you describe the problem you're having? If you want you can reach me via IM and I'll see if I can help you. By the way, I don't want to look as if I'm pushing Gaim down your throat. I just think that, having used both the free and the Pro version of Trillian on Windows and also Gaim on Windows and Linux, Gaim is a better IM software. And if I can spare some money and still use something that I prefer, of course I'll chose that option

In such a case, your best option is to submit a help desk ticket and let the techs see what the problem is.

I just checked while updating my laptop's WinGaim version to 1.0.1 and it does indeed support Swedish (it's "Svenska", right? )

Thomas, have you tried installing Gaim? I'm asking because if I recall correctly, Gaim allows you to chose the language to install. I'm not sure if Swedish is an option, though but you can give it a try. Oh, and you are correct about the character sets

I think your best option is to use absolute URL's. Why do you say it would be an inefficient way of coding? The only other way I see is for you to use "../some_folder/some_picture.gif" but that is what I consider inefficient, because if you want to move the directory where that HTML file is one level deeper in the directory tree, the image link will no longer work.

1 - If I'm not mistaken, the server load is calculated from various factors, such as CPU load, hard disk I/O (input/output), memory I/O... I'm not sure but I believe it's something like this. Execution time is not a good factor for measuring the load a script causes on the server, because a script can get halted waiting for something from another server, for instance, but during that time it is not causing any load to the server it is running on. You have a server load indicator on your cpanel (inside the "server status" page. link on the menu on the left) and you can make some experiments using that server load indicator to get an idea of whether your script is causing a big load on the server. 2 - As I said above, I don't think it's measured by execution time 3 - Now that's a very good question but I really don't know the answer. A Google search for "PHP server load" gave me some results but I don't have the time to investigate right now. But I'll be back to it, because it's something that I'd like to learn how to do. 4 - Well, if one of the techs notices something unusual on a server (or if a customer complains that the server is slow and the issue is investigated) and he/she comes to the conclusion that it is a script in your account that is causing the high loads, you will be asked to see what's wrong with the script or, if it's nothing wrong and the script does cause the server loads to go high, you'll be asked to remove it. I think your account would only be suspended if it is causing really high loads on the server, like bringing the server to a crawl and preventing the rest of the customers from having their sites working fast. Of course you will get a warning in both cases. The difference is that if the script is drowning the server, it's a more urgent matter and your account may be immediately suspended to avoid the other customers from being affected. Someone will then contact you to solve the problem. 5 - I don't believe this is possible here on TCH. Actually, I don't think I have ever seen this at any budget hosting company. Such monitoring systems are complex and I have only seen them in BIG hosting companies. Hope this helps

Well, Firefox will only tell you to download a plugin if it sees an embedded file on the page. Like a Flash movie, or a Java applet. The second case I mentioned (FF offering to use an external program to open a file) will only happen if you click a link to a file or if the server redirects you to it. Otherwise, if the file is embedded on the page, FF will ask you if you want it to search for a plugin that can handle that type of files. If you say yes, FF will search Mozilla's online plugin database and see if it can find a suitable plugin. If there is one, it will ask you if you want to install it.

Firefox can use external players. It's just a matter of telling it to always open that file type with that program. But an external program is one thing, a plugin is another. Firefox should only offer to download plugins or sometimes it will see that you already have a certain program associated (on the OS) with that file type and will offer itself to launch that program and open that file. Which is your case?

I never did something like that but my first guess would be just what you said, use one script to do the processing while another script presents a page to the user, saying the search is being performed. I don't know how other sites do it but I'm sure you can find some good tutorials about it if you search for something like "php search engine tutorial" on Google. I'm no god, I'm just a stubborn guy when it comes to computer stuff As for the site, I couldn't see anything there that makes you use a specific program. Can you please point me to the page you're having problems with? I'd like to try and figure out what's wrong.

Ty, get an Orinoco or a Senao.
