No, you just need the apache server, mysql and php. That's it. Many of the forum members use XAMPP.

I can see the images and smilies. If you are unable to restore the backup yourself, upload it to the server and open a ticket with the help desk and ask them to restore it for you.

You don't need cygwin to use XAMPP. Works right in Windows. Even works on a USB pen drive.

I'm with Tim on this one.

You can write posts to Wordpress using Email if you wanted. So if your grandmother knows how to write an email she would know how to post. You just set up a special email account for Wordpress and any email sent to that address becomes a post. I do not think you can attach images to it though. In Wordpress if you use registration you can set posts so that only people with the level you set them at can view the content. You can also password protect posts in Wordpress.

And along with relative paths you can also use XAMPP in your windows environment.

In cPanel, turn off indexes (using Index Manager) for what ever folders you do not want people to view the contents of.

I started using SK back when I had a version 1.2 WP blog. Since it worked so well I didn't see a need to activate Akismet when I upgraded to version 2 of WP.

Welcome to the forums Matt Did you upload the cgi file in ASCII mode versus Binary? Are the permissions set to 755 to allow the script to be executed as Don says. If the answer to both is YES, please open a ticket with the help desk and ask them to take a look.

Many things can effect the speed of the import. 1) What time of day did you do your import? Maybe the server you are on was running backups or AwStats which eat up CPU cycles. 2) Internet traffic. Many routes are taken to go between server A and server B. Just an opinion. The servers on TCH are as fast or faster than any servers I've ever used. As for the other two points I can't comment since I've never done an import from Blogger to Wordpress. But I did do an import from Blogger to Movable Type and it stripped things from my posts as well. Going from MT to Wordpress I lost things too. I'm sure they can write conversions and importers for most anything but it will never be 100% exact.

I never used Akismet but if it's working for you and your happy with it, keep using it. I have been using Spam Karma for over a year and in that time I have only had one spam comment slip through.

If it's askign for domain name I would expect to enter just that. (example.com) Also, we have some instructions on the help site.

Spam Karma is a plugin. You just copy the files to your plugin folder and activate it. I haven't had to do anything except white-list a couple of friends. As fas as I know you can only use it with Wordpress.

You can find most of that information in your cPanel. Look down the left hand column. It should all be there.
