  1. Here's what I found in a quick test: Firefox - . minimized - 4 open tabs to MSN.COM Memory - 4,004 K . minimised - 4 open tabs to MSN.COM Memory - 10,660 KK IE - . minimized - 4 open windows to MSN.COM Memory - 14,012 K . maximised - 4 open windows to MSN.COM Memory - 29,568 K The numbers were not totally stable but this is closest to the "real number" I could get. IE is not as bad as I thought it would be but we must remember that they have the advantage of all of the Windows tricks that other people don't know about (and thus is the heart of many lawsuits). This was run on my work computer - P4 3.00GHz Hyperthread with 1 Gig of memory.
  2. Check out Brown County, Indiana (Nashville,IN). They may be something you are looking for - lots of old fashioned places from 100 years ago.
  3. Those tech guys rule! Glad you got a quick reply but I'm not really surprised.
  4. Our company (my day job) has had a lot of this lately. The only thing saving us is that everyone here knows there is no "support@mycompany.com" or "administrator@mycompany.com". The other "good" thing, if you will, is that the only mails with our domain on it are going to people in our domain... not other businesses. Take heart, most folks know this kind of thing is a scam. If you have customers, however, you may want to send them an email saying "There has been a rash of scam emails going around lately. This is the only account I will email you from so be completely suspicious of any other email claiming to come from 'administration' type accounts." or something to that effect.
  5. Had a terrible host that was down often so I googled and found findmyhosting.com and started reading customer comments. There were the normal "I love TCH" ones, which I was skeptical of, but then there were the ones crying that they had been unfairly terminated. What sold me was when I started reading the replies from the owner like and a few more like it. I thought to myself, this guy is real and honest and has character. With great hosting services and low prices, how could I go wrong? I came to the forums and was instantly sold.
  6. That looks like a great solution, Kaz. Let us know if it works out for you Stacy.
  7. Sometimes you just have to let the idiots prove how ignorant they are on their own. People who read his garbage and agree with it will do so no matter what you say or do. Anyone else will read it and say "what a moron" so it really doesn't matter too much which way it goes. There will be idiots. Everyone else will know what they are from the words they preach.
  8. Have a safe time there and thank you. We'll see ya when ya git back. (former Kentucky )
  9. Who says Star Trek is in the future! This reminds me of the control panels for the helm and navigation on the Enterprise. Each person that sits down has a custom configuration of controls. If I want the thrusters to be here and you want it there we just drag it where we want it and when we log in to the console it's where we want it. No more static configurations. This thing is a lot like that in that you can configure things any way you want. I want one too!
  10. And how! Especially for you guys up in "mainland Florida". We skirted a couple here but nothing bad happened to us in the Keys, and I'd like to keep it that way thank-you-very-much. Maybe the hurricanes can go to the antarctic or Iceland for a change! Imagine the creative snow structures that would come of them! (And more importantly, they'd die from the cold - hurricanes really need heat to live.) Here's hoping and praying that this year sees a distinct lack of harm and danger and absolutely no loss of life. After last year everyone needs a break!
  11. It is probably using cached information now that ZA is back on instead of waiting for long timeouts. Glad you got it working!
  12. It absolutely will. The thing to keep in mind in this case is that the search engines (SE) don't know they are all the same site. A SE will be running down the list and say, "Oh, there's a vote for TCHDomainA.com" and "Ah, here's a vote for TCHDomainB.com" and it the mind of the SE, each "site" has 1 vote where your competition may have 2 or 3 votes with only one domain name. About the only way to get the links to count together is to permanently redirect one site to the other. If I have 2 "real" sites and put a permanent redirect on one of them then most SE's will "add" that site's rank to the other one and consider them as the same site from then on. The only way I know to do that, however, is to have a separate page from which you can do a redirect. Here's a few things: o Why do you have all those domains? Is it: . To stop competition from getting good names? . There used to be sites there and you just consolidated them? . Some other reason? If there's no compelling reason to do this then I'd say just pretend the others don't exist and focus on your main (real) one in the search engine world. Remember also that Google's PR is nearly meaningless nowdays. Some big sites even have zero recently because of changes and most experts in SEO don't believe that Google's reported PR (for instance, in the tool bar) is an indication of anything useful. Read another article about "How important is PR?" What counts, and the only things that count, are: 1. Can people find your site when they are looking for product or service X? 2. Will they choose you when they get to your site? Number 1 is purely a search engine (and other advertising) thing. Number 2 is a measure of how good your site is... does it sell the product and is it easy for them to buy. Also remember that it seems like it takes about a year for a new site to show up in Google for the first time. They have a "waiting period" that is *bad*. Don't forget that Google is just A "big dog" and not the only game in town.
  13. Wow, that sounds like a really great extension. I would think that such an extension would be a good thing. If you whitelist every site you visit you'll be no worse off than you are now and of course you wouldn't do that. Probably only a handfull of sites need the scripts turned on that we visit in a day so it sounds like a great addition to firefox. I'll be checking it out! Thanks for mentioning it.
  14. Welcome to the family, Impleri! If you need anything just ask!
  15. It's not even today any more in Sweeden, I think, but Happy National Day to our friends in Sweeden. Oh yeah, and happy Flag Day also! I like your flag, it's nice and simple yet good looking. Of course there's nothing like one's own homeland flag.
  16. There is a new rash of these going around. We haven't seen them for about 6 months at work but this past few days have gotten about 8 or so calls about it (in my day job). So far everyone has been smart about opening them but this evening our network went nuts so maybe the antivirus stuff didn't catch it all.
  17. Trivia fact: It's actually much older than that. I first found it in JARGON.TXT which became known as the Hacker's Dictionary - a wholly remarkable book that originated around 1975-ish and contained the terms the "Hackers" of the day used. You can find it online with any search engine "Hacker's Dictionary" query. Computer geeks just have to be special and use our - er, uhem - their own sub-language to make the outsiders feel --- well, outside.
  18. Welcome to the forums Matthew. I look forward to welcoming you to the family soon... I haven't found anything better than TotalChoice. It's not because I'm a mod on the forums that I think that ... it's because I think that there's none better that is the reason I'm a mod here. If you have any further questions just ask and if you do decide to move your accounts here the techs can probably move your sites for you since your old system uses Cpanel - enter a help desk ticket if you'd like them to take a look after you sign up. Take care!
  19. This topic was split from a review my site post since the topic is separate from the original and deserves its own thread.
  20. And they are not even charging you to create a file that will make their spiders more efficient, their jobs easier and reduce their computing overhead. What sweethearts!!!!
  21. But it's a dry heat! (Like hot is different than hot!) I'd much rather do that than what we had last year. Of course, the best thing is the cooler water there will make them fall apart before it hits land and there will be less damage.
  22. Welcome to the forums, Tim. You would be able to use the Cpanel to Cpanel transfer whether you use a reseller or 4 separate accounts. Remember it's not guaranteed to work but our techs will give it their best shot. There are ease-of-use reasons to go with a reseller too. I have 5 domains in one reseller account and it's much easier to maintain. Reseller accounts are not just for resellers... many of us here have reseller accounts instead of separate accounts but don't resell services.
  23. There are also templates you can download for free or cheap for use with your favorite web site editor. Just Google for "website template" and you'll find hundreds. Welcome to TCH!
  24. At least now we know who is responsible for global warming! Bad Don!
