I am receiving an error from the firewall every time I upload to my website. I have Norton personal firewall and have already set it to accept communication with my site so I could publish/ftp. I posted an image of the error I get everytime. Can someone tell me why the server is trying to access my machine? Or what port I should assign, or something?? Thanks. (hope I put this in the right area....) -Samantha

I have an upload script I would like to place into an area of my site with no links (essentially private). Thanks to the cpanel, I have the directory for the cgi-bin so that's covered for the script. I became stumped when the script was asking for where I want the uploaded files to go: $SAVE_DIRECTORY = "put something in here" And on the form line: ACTION="put something in here" If I just make a new folder in my public_html file, I can just use the folder address in the form, but what should the script say? And wouldn't that end up being public if I did it that way? I don't think I want it to go to the public area of my site if possible. Or does it matter? I have never used folders outside the website before...new territory so I need guidance. Thank you for assistance. -Samantha

Yesterday I loaded an entire subdirectory that had been published elsewhere onto my site. I made more changes today. The cpanel still shows the same space used, etc as a week ago. How often is it updated? Is there some way I can refresh data while in cpanel? Thank you. -Samantha

Good gracious. I am on an IDSL line and it has already gone into 4 minutes to get that intro! WAY TOO BIG! Suggest you optimize your images then put them back into your flash. I didn't see the enter site button until the the intro finished or I would have skipped it. Trying to enter the site from the flash page to http://www.nchaloclan.com/home.htm, my IE browser took a full minute, then had an error and timed out. Tried just loading the address directly into browser, same result. There is a problem loading that page. When I finally got in, it took a long time to load. Could it also be due to the 14 flash pieces on the same page? None are large, but maybe there's a conflict? -Samantha

Been using a couple of the tools for a very long time and thought I'd suggest the site only to find someone already did. Wonderful stuff. -Samantha

I spoke with my current web host. They have the MX record pointed at server.lambertusa.com AND they have assigned an IP address to that record in their DNS settings. The CPanel only has room for the server.lambertusa.com and no IP address. Can TCH do that too or not in the backend? Without the assignment of an IP address, our email will not be forwarded to this server according to my current host. Our emails would be totally lost. I would like to resolve this today so I can begin to set up the website transfer. With all the wonderful options that TCH offers, I can't believe this email situation would stop us from transfering the website. Is it possible to speak with someone directly about this since my questions about bandwidth have not been addressed either? Thank you. -Samantha

Just for giggles, I glanced at the webstatistics available in the cpanel for my personal site. I was really impressed with AWSTATS. I have used WebTrends for our company site and was expecting something similar, but AWSTATS is even nicer. Nice feature TCH! -Samantha

I spent a total of 22 minutes on hold today (2 separate calls) with my current provider...waiting for the next available...but never got through to tech support-web hosting. The paperwork we provided them when we set up our services specifically states "the MX record should say server.lambertusa.com" (as I mentioned in my first post) and gives a direction to point to the first available IP address beyond our gateway IP. I am trying to find out from the current company how they accomplish this so I can replicate here. Unfortunately, I can not make the move until I am sure we will not have email problems afterward. At this point, I am sure the website would transfer well, but I am not convinced that our email system would properly. I appreciate the assistance you have offered. I have no such forum at the current provider and find it very informative. I look forward to having TCH as our web host once this email thing is settled. -Samantha

Thank you Jim for your explanation of the MX record. That made sense. The rest does not though. The Small Business server we run here does not have a "domain" name - it has an IP address. Currently, our web host is also our ISP. I don't know if this is a function of the webhost or the ISP, but they have identified our IP address as the location for our email server. Somehow they have resolved the issue. I would like the TCH account to run the same way. Webhost on TCH, email processes served by the in-house server. I understand KW that the "domain" name is needed to adjust the MX record. But since we have never needed one for this server, how is it being accomplished now? Do I need my local guy to discuss this issue with tech support directly to resolve before I make the decision to move the site? I feel like I'm being placed between to competing forces, both stating "I am right" and I'm getting squished. I would like to understand this part of the email process better! As to patches, I know several patches have been applied, whether we are "fully patched", I can not say for certain. The current method has worked well for years. Since the emails would be serviced by the exchange server, I would not need to add email address records in the cpanel, correct? Also- no one answered my question re bandwidth usage and email as it pertains to this situation. -Samantha

Last week I posted that I was considering moving our company website to TCH, in the meantime I got a personal site here, played with it and decided we would definitely move forward on the business side too. I checked the local guy that originally set up the internet and email functions for our company. We do not use the curent web host mail server. He tells me that since we are running our own exchange server for the emails, I should not use the TCH mail server either. He said the MX mail settings should go directly to server.lambertusa.com and assign the IP address we use now for our server. He told me that I need the "zone file" (?) held by our current web host and need to provide that to the new web host so all the settings will be maintained when we move the DNS from the current host. Where do I put the MX settings, without setting up a mail service through the TCH mail server? Who do I provide the "zone file" too? Before I start the process to change the site, I'd like to understand this aspect please. Thank you for any translation of the above into english! In addition, I read another posting that explains that email goes against the total bandwidth. Is that incoming and outgoing? Including that ever increasing crud SPAM? If I have email going directly to our exchange server, that email should not effect my bandwidth correct? -Samantha

In your key to the forum, you show several envelopes in various tones to represent new, hot, etc. These envelopes show in the forum too but are not listed. Please explain the laser hole, or seal icon. (the blue one looks like on of my digital cameras) Do they mean no new posts/all read? -Sam

"Still Learning" or "I'm Trying" or "Guru in Training" are more my title! Wanna learn everything I can, but after a weekend of reading and playing, I am convinced that I am still on the second or third rung of the ladder....got a LONG way to climb! You've got so many new toys for me to try. I don't understand some of the language that tells you how to do it....seems greek to me. I'll keep studying other reponses. I learn fast, love to tinker, and I'm certainly not afraid to ask for help! TCH seems like the kind of place (judging by the forums and assistance) to expand skills....a perfect fit for me. -Samantha

Thank you. Responses to you all: 1) I know from reading the server name should be listed in the cpanel as Turtle says centered below my domain name, but it isn't. Is that a problem? According to something I read this weekend, that was being updated last month, maybe may area is still to be done? 2) I haven't set up emails yet so that wasn't possible. Will work on this tomorrow night. 3) KW as usual, you hit the jackpot! I had seen the list of servers and IP, but did not connect it to my temp address. Never had to use it - published directly to new domain.

My Cpanel window does not tell me which server I am on. How can I tell? -Samantha

Thanks for the kind words. I just finished my little dragonfly stamp a few minutes ago and added it to my homepage. Liked it so much I decided to make it my avatar. Patterned him after a dragonfly that's in a watercolor print that I have. He's just an excuse to play with Paint Shop Pro crayons! (Didn't realize it would change on my previous posts too... ) Yes... I have more pet pics to post, including my favorite lopeared rabbit, Chubbs. -Samantha

Now that I have a bit of space to play with, I will add a few more sounds. (got lots of seriously silly ones, Seinfeldisms, startrek, incoming mail..) Have put some unusual ones on the office machines to replace windows sounds..One woman's husband left a voicemail that I recorded, cut and made soundbites for her workstation. He was surprised to hear his own voice saying "HEY!! are you there?" and other things when he visited! She smiles everytime she gets an error message! Makes for a happy environment. This morning I added image links at the bottom of the homepage to several sites that offer CSB/Trellix help. For Turtle, Curtis and KW, I used the avatar from this board since they are similar in size and go so well with their sites. Lianna, I used your spinning logo, if that's alright. Please let me know if any of you want me to change the logo I selected for you. Thanks! My Webpage

Hi Thomas! I'm a newbie here too as of last night (finally got a domain of my own and parked it here). Isn't it nice to be surrounded by such welcoming folks? -Samantha
