Out of the office today, but will start the process later this week. Will take a while to re-publish and tweak before I can ask our domain to be moved, but I am hopeful that when the switch occurs, it will be as smooth as my personal site was. Kick Me Lambert is a family owned business which deserves the kind of family treatment found here at TCH. Hope the Head Guru wasn't offended by asking if he's computer generated but I feel the same way as this post: What happened to the little picture of TCH Rocks? Just noticed it's not one of the choices anymore... -Samantha

I did that under my personal user name and referenced my post here so I did not have to explain again. Also attached FDN's email as it might help. You seem to be here 24 hours a day....are you real or system generated? Looking forward to moving the site... -Samantha

I tried to address this issue more than a month ago, and a few times with a very experienced TCH user but could not get a resolution Head Bash , but now the situation is critical. I build a site for my employer which is currently hosted with FDN (in Florida). The host offers only bare boned storage with no options available, can't run CGI scripts, no support, no forum, NOTHING! Yuck! We have now maxed out our size allocation. I have to take action quickly. I can either expand the quota, or move the site. Obviously I would like to move the site. I have been interested in TCH for some time now. Even bought a site of my own to test the waters here. Very satisfied on that side! Thumbs Up The problem is with EMAIL and MX record. Our emails are handled by our in-house Small Business Server. The server does not have a domain name, only an IP address. Currently FDN routes our emails to our unnamed server via IP address. TCH MX record does not support using an IP address and must have a domain name, hence the difficulty. From FDN: "Basically, your domain name can be broken up into multiple records. MX for mail purposes and C Names for web traffic purposes. The C Name www currently points to our Web Server. The MX record is currently pointed to the mail server at your location. When you change where the domain name points to through a registrar, the new company you're pointing to has to have these records already created for you. You may incur some downtime if their record is not correct or not created prior to pointing the domain name to them. You are not required to point the domain name as a whole to another company as long as you have DSL service with us. We can remain the DNS host and simply redirect the www traffic to this new provider if they allow it. In order to make this change we would only need the IP address of the new web server you'll be on. Check with your new hosting company to see if this is allowed." 1. Should I address this to the forum, or to a techsupport email address? I have the full MX record with IP addresses, etc but don't want to post it publically. I would be willing to send someone the email from FDN when I first started discussing this problem on May 27th. 2. Do I tell FDN to remain the DNS host and point to whichever server I am assigned to with TCH? 3. If that's the case, then I should not set up the MX record or any email boxes in the cpanel, correct? 4. As to emails, that means since they would be bypassing TCH altogether, they wouldn't count against bandwidth. (Need to know to help decide which account to purchase.) 5. When I set up a TCH account, is there anything I need to DO or NOT DO to avoid problems? 6. What exactly should I tell the registrar concerning our site since the site would be located on one server, but emails by the same domain name (lambertusa.com) would be located elsewhere? 7. Or maybe TCH is a bad fit for this account because of the email situation. Should I just expand the storage I have with FDN even though they haven't got even one bell, let alone whistles and give up on TCH for this account? Please write slowly and clearly, just learning to read geek-speak. (Don't understand the behind, just work with the front side.) Thank you. -Samantha

I received a similar warning from Trend on our corporate network today. It captures the offensive attachments with no sound, but my Norton at home has a lovely popup to tell me it protected me from hazard. Wouldn't run a machine these days without protection. Like the avatar imaD! -Samantha

Wow! woooot Your dad done good!!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up It's terrific Imad....you look a bit pale. Might consider getting a little sun... WOOHOOO.... Not a Newbie. I'm a member again!!! -Samantha

Not sure how this will effect me....haven't wanted to use subdomains yet but sounds like a useable added feature of my account! Thanks. Hey Turtle, Looks like you modified the avatar a bit. Looks cool! (Wow...what a drop from advanced member to Newbie yet again... LOL) -Samantha

Terrific!!! Thumbs Up -Samantha

I like doing businesses that remember the customer's comments count both good and bad. Word of mouth can make or break a business. I left a very large banking entity after working there for 17 years because the signs that used to be posted: Listen to the customer!!! were replaced with attitudes that reflected the new code of conduct Listen to the numbers!!! Employees and customers of that company are treated as a resource to be used and tossed. There's always more where they came from. Thanks for running your business with integrity. It's rare these days. -Samantha

I have visited Shields Up several times on several machines. Nice site to check system. I have to first clear the cache before I visit again n that machine. Will do it when I get home. -Samantha

Until I get a router I will continue on Zone Alarm on home machine. Seemed to work well yesterday. Had one question though about it. I left my machine running unattended all day. I use PC Anywhere to connect from the office throughout the day. ZA says the autolock function should be turned on if the machine is unattended. But when I have it turned on, I can't access either direction with PC Anywhere. I set the two machines IP into the TRUSTED zone. For the program settings, PC Anywhere has: two green check marks under access, a green checkmark under server trusted, a red x on block internet server. I tried putting a passkey on too to override the lock but it didn't help. Still no connection. Which setting is wrong. And by not having the lock engaged, and machine unattended, am I inviting trouble? (I wish you could see what I see....my cursor on this office machine is twitching/stuttering...strange! Almost looks nervous.) -Samantha

Yes Oscar it the tiger, the mouthy, demanding one that just loves to be held or have the feather tossed for him. I may just renew the same version of the antivirus I have now for another year and not upgrade or switch. After a day like today, just maintaining is better than taking a chance that I miahgt get a bad version of a product. Thanks so much for the input! -Samantha

I have it set to Medium right now. I am thrilled to have found TCH and this forum. Rock Sign If I hadn't come here when I did, I would have had no protection when Norton took it's last breath. When I first posted, I had no concept that the firewall program itself might be corrupted. But it definitely was! But now on Zone Alarm, I'm running smoothly again, no lockups, no Blue Screens. What a relief to hear that others use it with success. Should I consider upgrading to Pro to replace my Norton Antivirus too? It's up for renewal in 16 days. (not 15 LOL). Oscar Says HI. -Samantha

My problems are temporarily resolved it seems. I uninstalled my paid-for subscription Norton Personal Firewall and I am running the free Zone Alarm firewall. Have rebooted 4 times, republished the last 3 CSB tlx files I blued on and the one I kerneled on last night... Still running fine. Seems the firewall program itself was corrupted. Decided not to reinstall Norton. I am at a renewal for my Norton Antivirus too. Gotta decide if I will keep it or go with something else.

Well...since adding Zone Alarm to my machine, I've had a CSB generated kernel error, and Norton's personal firewall is now not working at all. Mad!!! After I rebooted, I exited Zone Alarm to just run Norton for a while. I have no access to the internet at all with Norton - somehow it has gotten corrupted. I disabled Norton and turned on ZA so I am connected again. I am debating whether it is worth reinstalling Nortoan's Personal FIrewall or not. Besides others, I have some special settings in there to stop my pc from contacting the manufacture everytime I go online. The manufacture site that is supposed to respond back with driver updates, etc is long gone and can't answer but my machine tries over and over again and if not blocked it interfers with other activities. I also know what Norton is providing in the way of trojan blocking/stealth,etc.. I have alerts turned on (temporarily) so I can see ZA working. I am not sure of Zone Alarm's capability - does a FREE program really provide as much security as a paid-for subscription plan? Any thoughts? I am about to chuck this machine out the window and walk away from computers. Period. Head Bash -Samantha

yah Head Guru said he would post on Wed why we were 15ing all day and night. And where did they go? Or was it just simply to see how many people read the forum? 1115? -Samantha

ok.....Installed Zone Alarm locked up. Head Bash Restarted. Disabled Norton. Tried to publish with CSB, locked up. Head Bash Restarted tried again....Now everything is working smoothly. Published 3 minor changes as tests and no problem! Thumbs Up Anyway....THANK YOU so much for the input! Zone Alarm is the answer for now! I will run Norton during the day while I am at work as I am confident it has done a decent job of protecting...and disable while I publish with Zone Alarm on. I will look into a router for long term solution and hope the wiring can handle yet one more item. -Samantha

Yes I am on cable connection - Earthlink through local tv cable company. When I upgraded from win95 I waited as long as possible so I could afford to upgrade. Unfortunately I upgraded to winME... not knowing it would be a such a mess (give me a break here please - it was brand new and said to be the latest and greatest...!) <_< I went with a software firewall from Norton because I already had other Norton software and thought it might be more compatible, not because I am especially fond of Norton. I like the idea of a hardware router. I'm not sure my wiring would accept one more piece of equipment plugged in without blowing a fuse...kinda got that room loaded and it's an older house. If I upgrade to xp, my working scanner and printer will no longer be supported (have already gone online to verify it) and can't afford to upgrade several pieces at one time right now. So ....suggestions about this error? (Since when am I an advanced member....? Must be based on number of posts) -Samantha

Yes, I do upload fine. But tend to lock up shortly afterwards while Norton deals with multiple instances of port blocking. If only TCH is knocking at the door, Norton does fine, but if another piece of crud is also knocking at the same time, Norton gets confused.. If most windows machines don't have this running, why is it asking for it on my machine? Should I allow port 113 to be open for that particular IP address always? I can set that easily, but would that leave me open in any way? I do not use IRC. I am not comfortable with disable and enable. I don't know why, but I have some nights I get bombarded with trojans and other crud trying to get into the machine. I don't want to let someone in while I am uploading to the server. I wish the makers of those would find a better use of their time! -Samantha
