  1. I am treating your post as someone that actually needs help, though it is difficult to understand and sounds like a joke post.... You mentioned Frontpage in your first post. You can use Frontpage to build a website before you have a place to put it. Some people spend weeks getting ready before they go further. Others just jump in and build as they go. The home page of your site is usually called the index.htm or index.html page. When you build your site in Frontpage, you can set which page becomes your index page (home page). To have a website you have to have - a domain name (ex: myste.com $7-$20/yr depending on where you purchase) - a hosting plan. The host rents computer space to hold your website files (as low as $4/mo, $44/yr here at TCH) - Files to put on a website (you can write them in Notepad, or Frontpage, or any other software that produces webpages) including HMTL, images, etc. Buy a name if you do not have one. Then buy a hosting package. Then you can upload your website files to the host server. Then people can visit your site. -Samantha

    Tagboard

I use zonkboard @10/yr. EASY to edit and maintain. When I signed up it was a free service, and just decided to stay with it out of convenience. It is reliable. http://www.zonkboard.com/ There are two scripts you might consider: Floodbox v2 is WIDELY used and customizeable. Download it here: http://www.midnightbums.com/scripts.php My sql database used with this one. Here's another free script you might consider: http://www.cj-design.com/index.php?id=downloads&page=5 -Samantha
  3. OK. With all the wonderful options TCH offers, I am not disappointed that this one item is not supported! FastFind is a nice search program and the price is excellent, but will still need a way to search the pdf docs without breaking the bank. -Samantha
  4. I found this one: http://www.searchblox.com/product.html It's free for up to 1000 documents, and DOES support the searching of PDF files. But it's not PHP. It's JAVA. And I would need someone else with more info on the TCH servers to give me a nod as to whether we could run something like this. It might not work for hosted situations... -Samantha
  5. I installed it quickly, but ran into a problem with the indexing. It stopped half-way through. I cancelled and it ran again with no problem. I have it testing from a page with a top frame (some of our site has frames, but not all of it). The search response ends up below the top frame. Do you know how to set the target to load the response in a separate window or same window breaking the frame? Haven't delved in too deeply yet but sure there is a way to do it. 2 problems for me: 1) I have run some tests and will have to modify many pages to add the HTML code they recommend (ignor code) so my menus don't take up most of the description space. 2) Will not search PDF docs... Not good. Gotta have that since our specs and msds documents are all in pdf format. Might have to wait for next version.... Like the interface a lot, but will have to consider other options for pdf support. -Samantha
  6. COOL. Thank You! I did not find the poem in a book of love poetry as those seem to be, but since the page with the poem on it was not printed into the book I bought, it could have come from anywhere. Those books are the right time period, and definitely not by the person that wrote me about the poem. I will check them out. Would love to find REAL proof of the author. -Samantha
  7. Yup. That's the poem! I wonder if she really wrote it or if she too has laid claim to an anonymous author poem because she could. Guess we really won't know for sure. I can only be sure that I didn't write it and neither did the person that contacted me! And I know that it was written some time before I found it, making it at least 26 years old. -Samantha
  8. As mentioned, I already state that I found the poem in a book in 1978 on the website so I will leave that on the page. WIth a 10 year discrepancy, it's not possible he wrote the poem. The year is fixed in my mind because of certain events that fall when I found it, giving it even more meaning to me than just a casual reading. Nope. It was on a torn piece of paper stuck inside a used book, purchased in the fall of 1978. It might have been forgotten in the book or placed there for the next person to read. I don't know. No author, no source references, nothing. I might have images of the poster I made of the poem on my dorm wall... usually I was taking photos of people not walls. I wish I had more definitive proof.... I will leave it posted on the page as author unknown and not address the issue further unless he pushes the point. In the mean time, I might try to do more researching. -Samantha
  9. I have a poem posted on my website that has no authorship. I state on the site that I found it in 1978 stuck in a used book, author unknown and that I wish I could give credit. There is no doubt of the year I found it or that it was the poem in question not a different one. I even had it posted in my dorm room way back then! A person claiming to be the author in an email sent to me says it was written in 1988. He was hoping I had a typo on my webpage. This person is trying to stop the plagerism on the poem and was pleased I had not taken credit for it. I responded that I could not assign his name to the poem since he claims to have written it 10 years after I found it. I said that I thought he honestly thinks he created it, but possibly had read it previously and remembered it as sometimes happens with music. I have done a search and found his name on the poem on another site. And four other places state author unknown (like on my site). Been considering whether or not to make a statement on my site that says he did not write it. Any thoughts? -Samantha
  10. I like wandering around and reading about the toys and cube goodies on http://www.thinkgeek.com -Samantha
  11. Downloaded FastFind Bruce, but won't have time to try it until tomorrow. Looked at the demo control panel and like it. Allows exclusion of words and subdirectories... just what I want. Also have a question about the license key, The page says :If you access your website using www, then include the www in your domain. Eg. If you are installing your software to http://www.mywebsite.com/software, then the domain to generate a license key for would be: www.mywebsite.com. " But our site can be reached with and without the www so which should I use? Snipe, I did wander over to htdig and have not ruled it out. Nice to know someone uses it and has good experience with it. If I give it a try also, I may ask you for a nudge to get it going. Very nice implementation on http://www.vactf.org -Samantha
  12. EXACTLY the reason we do not want any ads on our searches. Don't want to take the chance that our competitors (larger, with much bigger ad budgets) will appear on our search results. Will check out phpdig.... -Samantha
  13. It's an old fix, but might be your situation. Check that your IE browser is set to refresh the page. You may be looking at a copy of the image stored on your own hard drive instead of the new image. TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > Temporary Internet Settings... Consider changing it to every visit. -Samantha
  14. For a business site that has areas we do not want searched, and have pdf documents we do want searched, what program or script do you recommend? I use freefind on my personal site and it works fine for me. But don't want ads on the business site. And even though I could sign up for business account with them for a low cost, I would also prefer to not have to depend on someone else's site to maintain indexing/spidering. I think long-run, I would rather get a script installed on our website that searches content not just keywords, but if that is not the best way to go, please give me your opinions on it. Thanks for suggestions! -Samantha
  15. Great video! My current avatar is my oldest cat Spaz caught in the act of making her SNAKE FACE (mouth open head turning side to side to look impressive) while growling. This was a playful shoot. But when she is in a cranky mood, she acts the same as the Siamese in your video. -Samantha
  16. I have three....the oldest chose me, the middle one adopted my tree (I came with it and finally got her to accept being inside) and the youngest (as a kitten) met my oldest and immediately decided to stay. They are best friends even with the 12 years apart in ages. All three are cuddlers, love to be talked to and petted. The oldest (Spaz) is the boldest, wanting to see everyone, meet everyone when they come into the house. Not that she wants everyone to pet her...NO. She is selective on that but definitely wants to see everything and smell everyone. When I have had work done she plops down nearby to watch everything! And often comments if people ask her what she thinks, even doing an Elvis sneer when she is unimpressed. I enjoy her. She is very special. -Samantha
  17. I too would be interested. PM will be sent.
  18. I found this thread today.... You should read it: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=9922 Seems the version of the guestbook you are using could have problems. Another TCH member is experiencing hacking on that GB. Rread and see here: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...showtopic=14033 -Samantha
  19. Stopped by the guestbook to say hi! One note.... Can you place a link from it to your HOME page? Maybe in the dropdown box in the upper right? -Samantha
  20. can't get out of level 16.... Driving me crazy! edited: went away and came back.... 16 is history but 17 is giving me a headache now. Think I'll go outside and pull some weeds for a while....take out some frustration and accomplish something at the same time! -Samantha
  21. I found 5 small square sheets of paper with writing, picture frame, 2 images, slip of paper with hair on it, incense sticks, soda can, medicine bottle. Several of the items can be placed on the shelf, but can't seem to combine any. No way to save the game so closed the screen and would have to start over if I wanted to try again. -Samantha
  22. With all the databases out there is there any question that this COULD come true if the data was merged? I agree that it was almost funny, but almost scary too. -Samantha
  23. Anyone else see the article in the Washington Post that said 2 folks were charged with felonies for spamming? North Carolina is starting to crack down on this plague. One person was convicted and had to pay a fine while the other was aquitted. Nice to see that the problem that costs individuals and businesses $$, time and aggravation is beginning to be seen in a serious light now. If you want to read the article, it requires registration, but is free to read: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23622-2004Nov3.html -Samantha
  24. TCH-DICK, glad you clarified the rules, and also glad to keep the "politics" and sides out of the post as that was not my intent when I made the thread. Thomas as he mentioned, each county has it's own responsibility to monitor and train individuals for the voting precincts and choose the equipment that will be used. They set the hours of voting. Many different forms of voting are being employed. Absentee and early allow people to vote on a day other than election day. A few drastically different types of equipment being used are: new touch computer screens (no paper trail but easy to see and use), paper cards that you fill in circles with black dot or draw a line to fill in the arrow that are fed into a scanner for fast readout, and even old-style punch cards that a hole is punched to push out the perfororated spaces beside the candidate's name. (This style caused problems in 2000 because not every voter pushed a hole all the way through the paper causing a "chad", a chip of paper to hang onto the back of the ballot card. Manual counting of these is a nightmare.) The budget for the equipment and training is limited by the resources of the community so sometimes new equipment is only purchased to replace part of the equipment. This means that some counties use more than one method to count votes. We are also a very large country. Voting on the west coat is still active while the east coast has already closed. Some tv, internet and radio reporting can be confusing because of partial information being reported. In my area, the lines were long, but once inside, the voting precinct was organized and went pretty well. Some folks have difficulty at a precinct if they recently moved, or have just registered for the first time, or the signature has changed from the registration (you broke your hand, etc). And in a country the size of US, how can you not have a few isolated glitches in the system? The best way to fix the problem is to standardize the equipment, tie it centrally, etc. But then you are asking for a whopping $$ cost and who gets to pick the standard? Who gets to pay for it? All in all, considering the vast diversity of the equipment, polling places and times it is really amazing that we have results as quickly as we do! -Samantha
  25. I am so pleased with the massive voter turnout! How wonderful to get so many people involved in the election process. That's a great gift we gave ourselves. -Samantha
