Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Ok, I have tried blogging in the past and never got in to it that much. I just started again and find it kind of soothing. It feels better some times to "talk" things out. I get no visits to my blog, and that is ok, but I find I write a book in almost every post. How much do all of you blog and are you a short poster or long or somewhere in between? Quote
bellringr Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I blog just as a journal of what's going on for friends and family to read, so my post lengths vary quite a bit. I do tend to babble, though. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I post daily and they are usually short. Sometimes rants, sometimes about new technology that interests me and others just plain BS. If you want visitors just post your blog address and we'll come by for a visit. Quote

I'm trying to get better at the blog (ie more predictable posts), but my forums are stagnant. I guess that's why I hang out here so much. lol Thanks for checking out my site, and everyone else is welcome as well. And my blog is publicly traded on blogshares too, so feel free to invest in me! lol Quote
TCH-Dick Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Then you all will know just how much an idiot I really am. Well I read it, and I like what you have done with the site. Looks great Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I tried posting a comment on your blog but I see this at the bottom of the page and it won't let me. Couldn't find your convert utility. Check that you have ImageMagick installed. Looks like you have capthca enabled but it's not working. Quote

marie b. Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 How much do all of you blog and are you a short poster or long or somewhere in between? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On Uniquely Alike, I can type pages and pages for each post (if the topic is close to my heart) - I usually cut it up into a series, or give it it's own subcategory if it's really awfully long. Then again, I can type just a couple words so it all depends. On Odd-Socks, I'm brief and to the point ; that blog is for my family to read, and I don't want them knowing too much about what's going on with me. Quote
MikeJ Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I'm the opposite. I've never really cared if people read my blog or not. But now I just don't have anything more to say it seems, so I'm planning on killing mine. Quote

As for my blog, I write it thinking someone is reading it, but knowing full well that no one but Sarah and I are reading it. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Fixed the image issue. Thomas, here it is, just for you. Don't tell anyone. Cajunman, you aren't the only one. Mike, I like yours. Don't kill it. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Yeah, Becca made a great template. I did change the header image and ported my entire site over to it. Quote

TCH-Bruce Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Yeah, Becca made a great template. I like the purple one she is currently running. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 She must have just changed it Bruce. Too bad I am not a purple kind of guy. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Now I´m lost (but thats nothing new). Who´s Becca? Quote
cajunman4life Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 That is a nice template Serpentine. Personally for my blog I use blogger with FTP upload. I originally had a pre-defined template but I made heavy modifications and eventually scrapped it. The template I currently use matches exactly with the template that the rest of my site (with the exception of the forums) uses. I'll work on the forums eventually. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Thomas, she made the template I am using now on the site. There is a link to her site in my footer. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Ok. I got stuck at the Imhotep theme, which doesn´t have any themes links, so I can´t check out the others. Quote
MikeJ Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Ok.I got stuck at the Imhotep theme, which doesn´t have any themes links, so I can´t check out the others. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Delete the cookie for his website, and it'll bounce back to the default. But yea, the Imhotep theme appears to be broken. Or just click here. Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I removed that theme. You can also click on home, go back to family pages and then clicl my link and bring you back. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 but... Perhaps I should go through the cookie list more often. I found the most mysterious cookies in there, but no chocolate. Quote
abinidi Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Yeah. I encountered the same problem as Thomas; I selected the Imhotep theme, and can't change it now. On another note, I've been blogging since June of last year, and have posted 120+ entries. I give my blog URL in the signature of my emails, but I don't expect that very many people actually read it outside of my family. Why do I write, then? I write because for me, writing in my blog (which has replaced writing in a journal for me) is a way to find order in the events that happen in my life. It is a way for me to find humor in what is going on, and it helps draw me back to to my center--if that makes any sense. Do I care if people read that? To some degree, yes. I wouldn't blog if I didn't want people to read it. If it were all personal, then I wouldn't put it on a blog; or at least my blog would be password protected. But if nobody reads it, it's okay, because for me, it's not about being READ as much as it is about doing the WRITING. And, I think that someday my kids will get a kick out of reading their old man's musings. That would be a good title for a blog: An Old Man's Musings... But hey. I'm only 26. I won't qualify for a while yet. (Incidentally, if you are interested in looking at my blog, it's located here. (A TCH-hosted site) </shameless self promotion>) Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Paul, that is the reason I do most of my writing. And to make sure I understand what I am studying. By the way, California does have their own language. Quote
Mitch Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I'm a little behind in the conversation, guess I should have gotten to reading it sooner. I'd say if you have something to talk about or you like to write then blogging is a great way to express yourself. No mater if you are doing it as a professional or just doing it for a few friends. My blogging lead into several other jobs and careers for me as well, so you never know when the right people might read your content. For those of you intrested in checking out my works, the links are in my signature. Quote
DWD Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Mine are generally short and almost always with a picture or two as I'm a very visual person and would rather read a magazine with pics than a book without. The content is about 1/3 family, 1/3 politics and 1/3 misc, I consider it a scrapbook for my family and friends. A while ago, I thought deeper about why I started the blog. In the prior, year my father died and my son was born. I got along great with my dad, but never had any deep conversations with him. In an odd way, I don't know a lot about him. I think at some level, I wanted to leave my son something that he could look at someday and know a little more about me. Quote
jwbowden Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 (edited) Serpentine - I agree with the others - Becca's template's are really nice looking. My blogging varies with my mood and my energy. Mostly I blog things that bug me, move me, or otherwise motivate me. My primary reason for blogging began with a community of bloggers (see my tagline) - finding out what others think, communicating about our faith etc. etc.. It's been fun. As for visitors - well, if you spend your time worrying 'bout that you'll lose your focus - just write. Edited May 19, 2005 by jwbowden Quote
Guest Serpentine Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 John, I am not woried about visitors, I would bore them to death if I did have any. Just wondering if I was the only book writer. Quote
ocellnuri Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I don't get to post to my blog nearly as much as I'd like to, but I'm doing a lot better than I used to. I try and keep it oriented around technology, gadgets, and design. I have a LJ that I throw my random comments and rants onto for my friends to read. I like having the different types of content seperate. I can write content that will appeal to a wide audience that mostly finds my blog through search engines, while also providing the more personal stuff to the very narrow and closed audience of my friends. Mrs. Muddled Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Then you all will know just how much an idiot I really am. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You made me chuckle out loud! That's EXACTLY how I feel! Folks might have been somewhat suspicious when they read my first post ... but once they read my blog, I'll have convinced them! Quote
TCH-Rob Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Well, from what I know of Serpentine, at least he is comfortable with the idiot factor. Quote
