TCH-Dick Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 CompUSA has 60GB Maxtor hard drives for $30 after INSTANT (not a mail in) rebate, I called the store here and they are out of stock but are giving rainchecks. Quote
curtis Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Saw that in my local newspaper's Compusa advert yesterday. I thought this a good deal and decided to go and buy 4 or 5 this morning. I was the 4th person in the door when they opened only to find a big sign stating Maxtor 60Gig drives Sold out. They aren't giving rain checks here. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 Bummer, well the sale is until the 16th so maybe they will get some in, or you could take that add somewhere else that price matches and prolly get em for the same price. Quote

youneverknow Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I have found CompUSA does this very often. They run an ad and do not have stock to fill the demand. Some time ago They offered a nicad battery charger with 8 Batteries (Free after rebate) and being the first in the door Sunday morning, saw that there were only 3 availible. It looks like their practices have not changed. It's only a good deal if you can get one. Youneverknow Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 It's only a good deal if you can get one. Most places offer rainchecks, I called all 4 of the compusa's close to here and all of them were offering rainchecks, I got rainchecks for 4 of them $120 for 240 gb of storage cant be beat. Besides, most other places like best buy, circuit city, fry's, staples etc will price match a competitors add, take it to one of those stores and get it pricemached. Quote
MikeJ Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 Ahh...the fun with marketing. Drop your prices substantially when you are almost out of stock, and let all your "price matching" (possibly well stocked) competitors eat the loss. Naughty Quote
TCH-Rick Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I know when I worked at CC we would call the competitor to see if they had it in stock before price matching. Once caller ID became available they would not answer our calls. Quote
cornfestival Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 This ticks me off about CompUSA. They've done more times than I can remember. I refuse to shop there anymore. I think this borders on bait and switch and maybe some state's attonery general should investigate. Quote
DarqFlare Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 My beef with CompUSA is that they mark up their computer cases an exorbitant amount... Oh, that and the two power supplies I've purchased from them have been crap and the fans die. Never buy a CompUSA power supply. Quote
claypage Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 CompUSA isn't the only store to do this. I've been to Office Max on several occassions to dvd recordables only to find them out of stock. This, mind you, is at the opening of the doors on Sunday morning, the day their ad is printed. I haven't had any problems with CompUSA, but in my experience Office Max does this every week. It's very annoying, and complaining does nothing. They do not offer rain checks either. Quote
