A question... which event(s) coincides with your mouse freezing?

I think BitTorrent is supposed to be an efficient way of distributing files without putting excess load on the file server... but I am not too sure about the technical details of distributing files via BitTorrent. Unfortunately, BT has become quite famous due to distribution of illegal contents, so I'm not sure if it is an approved method of file distribution here. I would leave that for the TCH staff to answer.

Both links will work. Permalinks are just a user-friendly way of showing the links. The "normal" less-user-friendly links will still work.

Yes, indeed. I find WordPress really easy to manage. If you don't like the default theme, you can easily replace it with one of the many themes out there. If you want a specially designed theme, you can do it yourself, or hire someone to do it for you.

Interesting list... like Kevan said, some items do look quite big... I wonder if they will all fit in the box. Have you tried? Anyway, good luck with loading the box!

well, guess the grain-sized elephant won't work...

Multimedia project right? Hmm... I'm guessing the point is to design those 100 things on the computer rather than think up the 100 things. Any rules though? How about using some creativity... like shrinking an elephant to the size of a grain of rice?

I'd be happy to test it out. Note that I am fairly new to web hosting, so don't have too much experience with cpanel (if that's what you're looking for in a beta-tester). I am, however, a geek-ish kind of person... so I tend to explore every option and try things out (and reinstalling my computer if I accidentally destroys it, LOL!).

I guess on one hand, not knowing your list prevents our mind becoming "tunneled"... but then, we might very well come up with the same 50 items as you... LOL. So I guess I'd wait for your list and see if I can contribute... good luck!

Hmm... would it be possible to officially support a theme, but permit the use of others too? Then if anyone needs help, have them switch back to the "official" theme for help... though the x theme isn't exactly the most user-friendly official theme...

Glad that your problem has been resolved. Though it looks like you've got plenty of disk space... so I'm not sure whether temp/cache files are the culprit. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. *touch wood* For my own computer, I have cache set at 10mb for Firefox, and only 1mb for MSIE. I don't know whether it is good or bad... I just don't like cache files stacking on my system. I also visit sites that have new content every day, so I figured cache doesn't really serve too much purpose for me. Having broadband with no download limit also helps! With regard to IE's options not clearing the temp files... I'm stumped. IE should know where it stores its temp files! Photographs - I store them on a removeable hard drive... but any other partition would do. Having lots of data on the system partition tend to slow the computer down by incrasing space usage and fragmenting it... but then again, it looks like your computer has plenty of free space. I organize my photos by date of photo taken and do progressive backup, so I have overlaps too. DVD burning - if your DVD drive has a "DVD-ROM" symbol, or if the "hardware" tab on the properties page of the DVD drive says it is a "DVD-ROM", the drive cannot burn DVD's. You would have to purchase a DVD-burner.

I have been using Skype for several months, and I haven't had too much trouble with it. I am using cable internet, and the voice quality is very good. Sometimes, even when I'm not using the internet for anything else, there is a 0.5-1 second lag... which can be irritating. I have been disconnected for no apparently reason for a couple of times as well. But for the cheap rate calling internationally, I am willing to compromise on the service quality... which I'm not sure if you would like in a business setting. I have only used Skype before, so I can't comment on other services. But, as mentioned before, the problem with VoIP or online telephony like Skype is the need for power to use the service, and lack of emergency dialing. It would be best to always have a landline or cell/mobile phone backup. Cheers,

I may be off on this one... but just my gut feeling. I think your hard disk space is filling up, and most things are running straight off your memory now, putting lots of stress on your system. I would try a few things... 1. Clear cache and history (this might take a long while, since you've set more than 1 gig for temp) 2. Defrag your hard drive I have experience where the system locks up and moving the mouse or typing anything would result in the system "beeping" through the system speaker. That's normally when the computer is overloaded. Sometimes it resolves itself when the CPU clears up the backlog of tasks/calculations you have asked it to perform.

Just an update... it's fixed by reinstallation. Weird... don't know what went wrong... but oh well... it's working now. Can't complain anymore. slightly Firefox 1.5.0.3 security update's coming out soon...

When I parked my extra 2 domains on top of my .org domain, I updated the DNS on those domains and submitted a ticket immediately, after propagation, the domains still worked as normal. So not waiting for propagation didn't seem to be a problem for TCH to park the domains...

Nope... no ad blockers. The only extensions I use are ForecastFox, Gmail Manager and SearchPluginHacks... which I have had way before I had this weird problem. Guess re-installation's the way to go. I'll try that sometime tomorrow... it's almost 2am now in Taiwan... goodnight everyone! Thanks again.

The "default theme" background for the header (above "Jazz night at Brown Sugar") should be a light blue box wrapping around "blog.chatbug.org" <br> "chatbug’s blog". My firefox screen captures: MSIE screen captures: Well, by the looks of things... it's probably just my firefox that's giving this problem. Hmm... well, guess I'll see if it fixes itself by tomorrow... or I might try reinstalling firefox on my computer. So long as my site looks normal to the visitors, that's fine. I can resort to using MSIE (unfortunately) until I resolve this problem. Thanks everyone!

I have a weird problem... not sure what is causing the issue... whether it's my browser, site or server. It has to do with my main blog... h_tp://blog.chatbug.org/ I am using Windows XP with Mozilla Firfox 1.5.0.2, and only a few hours ago, images on my blog that's hosted on TCH (e.g. default template's background, smileys) stopped showing up. External images shows up fine, and everything looks in order when I load it up on MSIE6. Haven't got a friend with Firefox online at the moment to test this, but a friend with IE also said it shows up fine. This problem seems to be specific to my main blog. When I load up my other blog (h_tp://restricted.chatbug.org/), the default theme's background images shows up fine on my Firefox. Hopefully this may help trace possible problems(?!)... Earlier in the day, I made backups of my site from cpanel. After which, I setup redirection from <h_tp://chatbug.org/blog> to <h_tp://blog.chatbug.org>, backed up access logs and activated hotlink protection. I tested the hotlink protection using <http://altlab.com/hotlinking.html> and images seemed to still be displayed, so I altered the hotlink protection until images weren't. Up until then, images were still displaying normally on my computer. Later in the evening, when I saw images appearing with borders from modifications to the CSS I did a few days ago, I reloaded, thinking that it might be cached version (possibly by my ISP?) showing up. At first, the borders didn't go away, then all TCH-hosted images disappeared. When I clear the cache on my Firefox and reload the site, the images still doesn't load... not even after a reboot of my computer. Even the WYSIWYG editor in WP admin doesn't show up. I tried to restore the home directory and database backup I made that afternoon, but it doesn't seem to help. I'm stumped as to what may be causing this. If anyone else has Firefox and experiences the same problem loading my site... or not... please let me know. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
