Joomla! 1.5.1 - Security Release
flashram replied to TCH-Thomas's topic in Software/Scripts/Other Alerts
Thanks Thomas. -
Just transfer the domain name to somewhere like godaddy.com and then point the name servers from your control panel at godaddy.com back to your current hosting companies name servers. You always have control of the domain as you are the owner of the domain, godaddy act as the registrar. It might also be cheaper for you in the long term as well. Open an account here when you have done so and then you can get it transfered here using cPanel to cPanel transferring if that is what you are using, the techs need both the log in info for both sites, once it is transfered you then point the domain name servers to the TCH name servers you will be giving when you sign up. I learnt a long time ago, not to have hosting and domain names controlled by the same people, look after the domain name registrations yourself, takes a lot of pain out of problems then long term.

I just couldn't believe it when I saw this in a banner at the end of a post in a signature. This is just so sad, seems like only the other day we were talking etc about my new site. God this is just terrible news, not just for his family who I realise will be saddened at his loss, but probably happy that his suffering is now over. Yes as Bill said it is like loosing a brother, a family member. Best to his family and there grieving time and to those that knew him well as well.

Anyone Can Help Me In E-commerce Please!
flashram replied to kool girl's topic in Running your online business
Definately sounds like a course question being asked here. Go and do some homework. -
Yes Jayson can certainly be a memory issue. If you have other memory just try changing one of the cards of memory to isolate which one might be bad, if more than one module. If you only have one module, then take it out and see if you can use it in another machine or a friends machine. Won't wreck anything as long as the memory is compatible with the computer. This will isolate that. It could also be a faulty hard drive as well. Try cleaning the edge connections of the memory module with a rubber the plastic ones and make sure it seats properly as well. Another solution that works at times. Also check all cables are seated properly as well.

Yes except for the times when things don't work properly in Firefox or Opera or Maxthon, then IE works. I have a situation where I bought Trillian after trialling it for a while. When I went to access my yahoo mail from the notification link from Trillian, you just click and select, all I get is a page error. Something in Maxthon (based on Firefox) won't work correctly. Set the browser default back to IE6 and works again. So there are times when it does come in handy. Still use Maxthon most of the time (Thanks Bill Kish for suggesting it to me).

Congratulations Carl, the Abuse area really does need to have someone looking after it at all times, you will learn a lot about things in that area I am sure.

OnlineAutorama If you have 4 accounts now then it is probably a good idea to get the first level reseller account and move all your accounts within that, much easier to look after that way as well. Make one payment as well each month at the same time.

I've been with TCH for quite a long time now and wouldn't be where I am today with just obtaining my own dedicated server for my purposes now I have officially acquired probably one of if not the best photography website in Australia and now need my own server to handle that. I have always found not only Bill, but all the staff and forum moderators and members very helpful when I have needed the help and also now when needing it the most to facilitate a huge website move to the new server and getting it back on line. Issues you always have those anywhere, but very few here at TCH. Want it solved, ask here, talk in live support, MSN or yahoo, 24/7/365 and it just gets better all the time. I know of no other company that has the dedication of the owner and staff that provide the service that you find here at the price they charge. Much of it freely given where others charge by the hour. Maybe you just need to get a reseller account and merge your accounts on to that, I started there originally. Overselling is very common and you need to be wary of offers that are too good to be true. Yes I know the people here some of them very well, I would call Bill and Andy very good close friends, but never met them in real life. Both have been very open, giving of their time and expecting nothing in return either. I don't know of anyone where else that it happens other than Nurses who do it everyday without a thought. My real profession if I could still do it, is Nursing in Operating Theatres, being a male a hard profession to be in with mainly all females, but these guys have just as much dedication to their customers as nurses do to the people they look after. And it is much like a close nit family as well. They to me are the reasons I am here and recommend them without hesitation. No rubbish, no outlandish promises, just honest open and friendly atmosphere. Your choice.

Yes we do, Yes we doooooooo please that would be just so funny to see. Nice to see some images up at last great news. Now just point out which one is mine.

Have you tried placing redirects from the old domain pointing to your new domains IP address. I have sort of been going through similar as well. And you need to turn the other domain off, otherwise you end up with database issues like I had. Didn't realise that I needed to actually disable the website. Lodge a support ticket about it and they will help you resolve it. TCH-Andy did mine problem, but the other techs will know how as well.

Well After Many Years With Tch
flashram replied to flashram's topic in Reviews of TotalChoice Hosting
Thanks everyone and I apologise missed a word in the heading should be "Well after many ......" And I missed Terri not because I meant to but trying to remember everyone that works for TCH etc and the past week getting all this going has been a bit of a blur. No worries Thomas when you can would be great, different time zones etc, and things keeping everyone busy as well, I totally understand. -
Thanks to TCH especially Bill Kish and Andy Beckett for all the assistance that both have given me over the past few years. Without their help far and above that given by other hosts I have dealt with, I wouldn't have been able to achieve this great leap. Reason is that I have acquired by a bit of unforeseen circumstances a website and due to the nature of the site it needed to be on a dedicated server for it's potential growth. I would like to expecially thank Andy Beckett and Dick who have helped to facilitate this dedicated server and the speed that they have been able to do that. Also thanks to Jesse for getting it going quickly after it went online. Yes as always with things technical (and believe me seeing it on both sides of the fence) things don't always go as planned, but the Staff of TCH surely have a great handle on ways to fix any issues that I have come across and they know what I mean by that. Tina, Carl, Tom, Viveck, Don, Thomas and all the test of the great team I wish you all the best and a great and continued association in the future. As a result of this happening, I have been able to highly recommend, not that that was ever an issue with me, the TCH services to someone that asked my advice today regarding a dedicated managed server which will facilitat their business being in a stable environment as well. All the best and will always have my support and friendship. Big Time in my Book From an Aussie Friend always Bill from Downunder.

My thoughts as well, as my daughter has a program that she can write stories with and that is why I am hesitant to put linux on her machine, don't want two systems running, one or the other she knows that. But if I could resolve that then she would be happy too. Does the java games etc like runescape run OK with it too Andy, just think about our conversation and the Linux Box.

Spam Sent With My Domain In The From Line
flashram replied to Android's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
First step would to make sure that you don't become a victim of comment spam from what you have running on your server. People seem to take great pleasure in looking for sites and causing this to happen on a regular basis. I would suggest also that you lodge a ticket about it and ask for the technical people on TCH to check the logs for you. If they are being generated from your site then yes you will get notified, often the first indication is your site is not accessible. It means an notification is generated automatically to the technical area and is reviewed and action is taken, by the person who looks after those generated tickets. It can also be instigated by web site admins who have setup notifications automatically to inform the suspected hosting company of the issue so it can be rectified quickly otherwise IP's then get blocked as spammers and that takes quite a while to rectify from the support area. But as you are receiving them then your site is sending them to you most likely from comment script notifications you have turned on. One way to handle that is turn off notification about comments being sent to you each time and review your comment area regularly, or turn off comments allowed and they will move on to the next server. Happened on a site for me yesterday, so turned off the facility temporarily and will deal with it in a couple of days. The help desk could help you with determining the best course of action. -
Well I was able to get Linux Fedora 7 setup and running and on the net no questions asked and I can quite assure you that I have no linux knowledge at all, bar what I have read since. No it isn't easy from a text line input point of view, but I elected for GUI setups so everything is much the same as windows. My youngest daughter who is 11 wants and loves the Linux system on here computer. That is why I suggested the Ubuntu as you can get the CD as it as Bruce said a Live CD without install, to get a good visual look at it. Fedora suited me due to my requirements.
-
yes I did and they sent me 3 copies as I asked in case my children wanted to check it out. The disks come from Europe. But as Bruce said most people download them and burn them. If you have an ISP like mine they have free content and doesn't count towards bandwidth usage. But I've also had problems with downloaded distros as well wasting disks from corrupt downloads. But you can check them with files that do a checksum on them to validate they are correct. Ubuntu is just one that is fairly easy to work with compared to something like Fedora or Redhat. CentOs is not bad but I only got it to install in test line mode, moved to Fedora 7, which is probably overkill for my use, but I don't mind that.
-
Linux Ubuntu would be a choice you can then install just the needed package elements and have a very minimal system running with a user interface and web browser. Starts fast and easy to use. There are many Linux stuff. You can go to the Ubuntu website and get them to send a CD/DVD to you and you can boot it and have a play around with it without installing it and install it if you like it. And it is free as well. I am running a Fedora 7 Linux setup as an extra off my windows network, which allows me to develop in the environment that my websites are hosted on.
