You need something to 'rip' the dvd into a more recognizable format. Go to download.com and do a search in downloads for 'dvd rip'. Oh, and it's not a fast process (as best I've been able to get), a 90 minute video takes about 9 hrs to rip on a 2.8 ghz machine.

Just my personal preference. I despise graphic intensive websites, especially ones with animation, flash and other well, 'flashy' stuff that looks like it was done simply to show the webmaster could do it. I'm on cable now, but I don't have enough fingers and toes to list the websites I would NOT go to if I were still on dial up. As you noticed, some things I haven't fixed yet since switching to TCH. I was running the site (and several others) from my own server, which let me do way more things than I can do running on someone elses.

The font face tag does the same thing (if you don't want to use css).. That font might be part of MS office... ?
-
Here's what I have on changing fonts... The font FACE tag was added by microsoft and is now part of html 3.2 (4.0 prefers the use of style sheets). The FONT FACE tag will search the given font names one at a time, if can't find it any of the fonts listed, it will use the default font. Some browsers may not support the tag and font names may vary from system to system, therefore changing the font should only be used as an optional presentation only feature, rather than one to be relied on in your pages.

Just for the fun of it.. http://www.thehomeforums.com/members/pendragon/goto.zip Only needs perl, very simple and straightforward. just add the urls you want to allow to click through to the txt file.. cgi has a few variables to set, just open both in a plain text editor and you should be able to figure it out.
-
Instead of using the actual link to the site, use a redirect. Something as simply as an html page that contains a refresh with the actual url to. Then you can see the hits on that html page. Or maybe a script that you pass a url to, and it creates the redirector. Shouldn't be too hard to write I wouldn't think. If no one else comes up with something, I'll whip something up this afternoon for you in perl/cgi

CuteFTP also has shell integration. I've been having a problem with it lately though of not remembering my binary/ascii upload settings.. keeps trying to upload cgis as binary and jpgs as ascii! if you connect using windows explorer one time, it will add it to your 'network places' and treat it like any other folder/drive.

Go to my website (below), look on the left menu about 2/3rds of the way down and click on the Voting Booth link. Something like that work for you? Guestbook is on that menu as well, very simply guestbook.

One of the major changes I am doing is making all the display text customizable using templates, so listings, product, shopping cart, everything can be easily edited, as it was all hard coded into the store originally. Never been one on fancy graphics, guess I am still stuck in 'dial up' mode even after being on cable for years. I can't even imagine how slow some of the sites I've visited would be on dial on they are so graphic intensive! I do need to change up the colors in the tables though.

In the process of updating my store script, I've come to see that I am going to be rewriting or editing about 90% of it to make the changes, upgrades and add the features I have been meaning to add since I first wrote it. So, what I am looking for are any suggestions that someone might have. I already know what *I* want in it, but what would you want in a store script from either a buyer or sellers perspective. All comments welcome, you can see my current script at http://www.thehomeforums.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi Note that I no longer sell products, I originaly wrote the script for one of my other websites that I no longer use, but I've been wanting to update it anyone, as I may want to use it again in the future.

Well, now it's working. Seems IE did upload it in binary mode. Still gives me an error on my local server (just not in perl) though, not sure why, need to dig in to the server config I guess, obviously I screwed something up! I couldn't have posted the code anyway, it's nearly 2000 lines (and growing).

I've got a script that works fine in perl, but whenever I access it via web, it gives me a 500 error with the ever helpful 'premature end of script headers' error. Again, script works fine in perl with no errors, but won't run on website (and it has the right permissions to run). Any ideas on what to look for?

Everything I have ever shipped by UPS has gotten weighed, and that weight used to determine shipping. The only time the box ever got measured was if it looked oversize, in which case an additional charge for oversize shipping was added. I've shipped small boxes that were very heavy, and large boxes that were very light. Shipping ends up about the same. I once sent a set of car seats, each box was about 2' square and nearly 4' tall, probably 40 lbs each.. Cost me about $25 to ship it. Most every other package, short of being very light, has ran between $11 and $17 to ship, even the smallest, lightest package I've seen cost about $8. The variance seeming to be mostly where it's going, as the destination can change the charge. I've shipped the same identical item to different zip codes and had the shipping costs vary by as much as $4. Don't get me wrong, it's your cart, if you want to spend the time to do it, I just don't see where the payback is.

Well then, snap to it!

I tried that link, entered my URL and it never responded...

Wow, I am guilty of so many of those it's not even funny. But Bawls is better than Jolt cola any day of the week.

Every place I've every shopped online has charged shipping based either on weight or dollar value of the order. Some orders you are going to be 'overcharging' for shipping, on other you may find you didn't charge enough. Eventually you will either break even, or change your shipping charges/methods. Having your shopping cart play tetris with your product honestly just seems like overkill. I figured it up one time, UPS will charge $14 to ship a 2 foot square box to just about anywhere in the lower 48 states, almost regardless of it's weight (provided it's not overweight). If your customer buys a $5 item that needs a 2' box, and you only charge $5 for shipping, you lost money. If you charge $15 for shipping a $5 item, you probably won't sell it, they'll realize that even after sales tax, they can get it locally cheaper. Let's face it, most people buy online because it's cheaper, not because it's more convenient (and certainly not faster), unless it's just something that isn't carried near them. You could get a general idea buy determining the cubic inches of the item and using that, it's weight, and destination, and then comparing it to a table of the capacity of the boxes you have, even though it probably wouldn't fit into a standard box, you might get close. BTW, I don't know of any cart that will do this, it would have to be custom written.

A lot of the web design packages come with a collection of stock images. You can also buy add on packs. I've got a collection of images I've had for probably 10 years, all told it's about 45 mb worth. I'd offer them up, but at 45mb a pop, it'd eat a lot of bandwidth..

Here's a place to start: http://www.sacscoc.org/

I'd say if you want to find out, you need to find out at least these things: Is the school acredited? Does the the college/university near you recognize the credits from the online school? If the answer is no to either or both, I'd keep looking.

I did notice that on the google maps, some areas had detail, but most areas didn't. Why they have 1m detail of the navy base, but not of residential areas I don't know. Here's a more recent photo.. I'll have to update my youarehere page.. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp...tonment%7cfl%7c

The color is neat, but the angle view makes it hard to see detail. http://terraserver.microsoft.com Here's my location, old yes, but at least I can see.. http://www.thehomeforums.com/members/pendr...youarehere.html

I like sportbikes, building stuff/home improvements, building RC planes (just building, not brave enough to fly em!), computers of course, writing perl/cgi scripts, stuff like that.

You can copy the entire trillian directory from one machine to another, no need to reinstall. I've done this many, many times, just copy it to the new machine, create your shortcut and you're good to go.

Makes sense to me. TotalChoice sites are googled more frequently than any other web host I've been with. So your site is probably more visible now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah, my site always got indexed regularlly by numerous engines. In fact, the link that seems to have started it all came from a yahoo search.
