I just upgraded (yep, 2:32am CST and all by myself. I'm so proud) and I'm loving it so far.

Try installing MT Medic - takes three seconds, and it doesn't rely on your Movable Type infomation to give you access. You can reset, create and edit authors and passwords along with a million other things in case something goes wrong. Even if it doesn't help you with this problem (although it should), I think you should have it anyway.

I used to use one for Movable Type but then I realized that no-one really cares what the weather here is like, in all honesty. I do love the graphics in the WP one, though.

Hmm . . that's curious. I was having the same problem on an MT install on another site, and did something (I can't remember what exactly, but I know I changed them) to the permissions and it worked perfectly. Then again, I'm only a novice.

It doesn't sound as though your permissions are correctly set. Also, the address that appears for your old site appears because you entered it when you were commenting. Woops, bit too slow to respond.

Ok, I renamed the directory in which the referral script was stored since spammers seem to automatically focus on it. I changed the htaccess to point to the correct directory . . and now my index is blank again.

God, I can't believe I deleted the referral script but forgot to delete the references to it. Thanks. Also, I'm getting completely hammered by referral spam - which is why I had to delete my referral script. Over 100 hits in less than an hour, even though I have the sites blocked. Any idea why it happened so suddenly, and how to stop it?

I just refreshed my index after adding a new entry, and everything is gone. It says that there's nothing between the body tags, but I didn't alter the template. I deleted the entry and it's still the same. Everyone on my friends list has checked it and it's still blank. Any ideas what could cause this? It seems odd that the page went blank literally seconds after I just checked it.

I'd recommend Dell, too. I have an Inspiron 6000 that we picked up for less than $700 last year (after discounts) and it seems to be faster than my 3.2 desktop.

I'm trying everything to see if I can re-create that error, and I'm just not getting anything. I've no idea.

Go to the place where you created your MySQL databse. At the bottom, there's a place to create a user ID and to assign permissions to a database. Select the User ID and the database, then click the ALL box.

You must add permissions for each user when you create a new database. You should have a user and a database, with permissions (usually 'ALL') set between the two.

Are you sure that your database information (including permissions) is correct and correctly entered in refer.php? I just set this up on another of my domains in the last few minutes, and it works perfectly.

What is the error? That script should only take a couple seconds to install.
