  1. Hmm, well here in east-central Nebraska, it's mostly cloudy but clearing, and very nice.
  2. Sorry to hear everything was botched up for you I guess it's back to the drawing board.
  3. Yes that should be the only file you need in there.
  4. What do you mean moved? Technically speaking, for security purposes, an "install" directory shouldn't even exist on your server (otherwise anybody could come by and wipe out your installation with minimal problems). You should have to create the "install" directory on the server (in your forum directory) and upload "update_to_latest.php" to it. That should really be the only thing in your install directory (and you will delete the directory and all it's contents after running the update).
  5. Hmm, it seems I forgot to mention that "update_to_latest.php" needs to go in the "install" directory (which should not exist, so you'll need to create it). It's proper location should be /public_html/your_forum_directory_path/install and can be accessed by http://www.yourtchdomain.com/forum_directo...e_to_latest.php.
  6. Indeed, it could be a customer-written tutorial. You know, just checking out the php-nuke site, I'm not sure if what we're doing here will work, but it's certainly worth a try. I've never let a "you can't do that!" stop me lol.
  7. Hmm... seems I posted and just missed your post... ok well I'm not sure the directory structure of the nuke install, but basically upload those folders & files (along with update_to_latest.php) to the directory that the phpbb installation is located, and go from there.
  8. Let us know how it goes Springfire
  9. Ohh!!! I forgot that! Yes you must go back to subsilver before upgrading! *doh*. Thanks for pointing that out Springfire. See, not even a know-it-all knows it all lol. As far as working with php-nuke, I'm not sure as I've never worked with it (only CMS I have remotely any experience with is php-fusion). I would imagine this shouldn't cause a problem, though I'm not 100% sure so don't "shoot the messenger" so to speak. Let us know if this works out for you.
  10. Reality_Burst, when you say it's the newest package, do you mean SMF 1.0.5, or the newest beta? Because I haven't seen this problem (personally) in 1.0.5.
  11. Very strange indeed. It does seem to be a permissions issue. You're sure you checked permissions on everything? Have you run an error check on the database (through SMF's admin panel)? If nothing else, perhaps you should schedule some downtime, take a backup of the db, remove the SMF installation and re-create the db, install clean, and upload the backed-up db and see if that has any effect. Edit: While I'm not a mod, I should give you a friendly reminder that "bumping" a topic is not allowed on these forums.
  12. Hmm... sounds like a real predicament. I found out the hard way how not to upgrade a forum lol. Ok, so let's start with the basics. You are using phpbb. Do you have a lot of mods installed? If you don't know, then you more than likely don't. That will make it easy. You'll want to download the "changed files only" package from phpBB.com (I recommend the "zip" version found at http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php ). Open that in WinZip (or 7Zip or any other zip program) and you'll see another zip archive inside that should say something like "2.0.14_to_2.0.17.zip" (don't quote me on that, it's been a while). Double click that file to open it. Unzip all files inside that to an empty directory on your computer. Now open your favorite FTP program and upload all files in that directory to their corresponding location on your server. Now, you'll want to find a file call "update_to_latest.php" (again, don't quote me on the exact filename) and I think it should be in the first zip archive you downloaded. Unzip that and upload it to the base directory on your server (if your forums are installed at http://www.mytchdomain.com/forums, then you would upload it to the public_html/forums directory). Then, run the file by doing "http://www.mytchdomain.com/forums/update_to_latest.php" (change to fit your exact setup). BUT FIRST - make sure you back up your forum database through cpanel first (I usually also take a full backup just before uploading the new files, just an idea). Now, after running that script it should either tell you everything is fine and dandy, or it ran into problems. Usually everything will turn out fine and dandy, and viola, you have the latest and greatest version of phpBB! Now, let me know if this won't work, or you need further assistance in this matter.
  13. Anyone that has used SMF, how does it compare to IPB as far as performance while busy? In other words, suppose I intend to have hundreds of users online at the same time... I know IPB performs admirably under these conditions, but how does SMF compare (as well as phpBB, though I've heard SMF performs a bit better than phpBB but I can't confirm as I haven't had that many visitors yet).
  14. Welcome to the forums jweist!
  15. Welcome to the forums!
  16. Good Job! That's a beautiful catch. I haven't been fishing in about 3 years, I need to go back.
  17. Welcome to the family!
  18. Welcome to the forums Rhye And congratulations David! Job well done.
  19. I've been a phpBB fan, until today that is when I installed SimpleMachines in a test environment. It's rather nice if I do say so myself, and I may be looking at laying out a migration plan if my testing goes well
  20. You know I did a test install of SimpleMachines Forum, and I rather like it perhaps I could build out my site to use that. I'm still working on it.
  21. Bruce, thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it more, but right now it appears baker is not so useful (then again in all fairness I've only given it 20 mins). I say that because I can't seem to figure it out, then again I'm not myself today. I'm going to go get lunch now and I'll try again after lunch. For right now though, I think php-fusion is winning me over.
  22. Well here, I'm putting together a "gas price watch" website. It could be just a simple phpBB install in the site root, however I wanted to be able to do a little more in the future than just forum posts, so I figured a cms would be good (and one that includes built-in forum). I've been playing around with php-fusion in my "test area" of my site, and I'm growing to like it
  23. Along with Limbo, how about PHP-Fusion? Anyone have any experience with either? I'm looking for something that is neat, clean, scalable, and isn't a resource hog.
  24. I should note, it's called "Limbo" and not Mambo Lite. Sorry for the confusion.
  25. Hi, I'm looking at building a cms-driven site, and was wondering about Mambo Lite. I know it's been said before that Mambo can become a "resource hog" if it's a heavy-traffic site, but what about Mambo Lite? Does anyone know? I would like to use it but do not want to get my account suspended for heavy resource usage. Thanks!
