I downloaded Guarddog and will give it try first. This linux box is not going to be connected to my network which has a hardware firewall and I really don't want to set up a dedicated machine but Smoothwall does look very good.

I've been looking at some software firewalls to install on my linux machine. 2 of the most popular ones I've read about are Firestarter and Guarddog. Is anyone using one of these? If so your opinions would be helpful. I'm also open to suggestions for other programs if you know of some good ones.

I had that problem with win 98se installing 2 printers. It was,I believe, an hp 952c. Printer sharing was turned on but no network was setup. Everytime I tried to install the printer it would get installed twice. I turned off sharing, reinstalled and the printer setup as it should with only one printer showing.

Thomas, You can find bidirectional support by going into the printer properties. The tabs at the top of the box, one is ports click it. At the bottom of this box are 2 check boxes. On my printer the top check box is for bidirectional support, the second is printer pooling.

Thanks Bruce. I'm setting up mysql on a home computer and had about determined that it was part of cpanel. It makes setting up db's alot easier than using phpmyadmin. I have phpmyadmin installed so I may have to use it unless someone knows of an addon to mysql for an interface like the one in cpanel. Thanks again

In cpanel, when you click MYSQL you are taken to MySQL Account Maintenance page. Is this page part of the mysql download or is it a GUI addon as part of cpanel?

Yep, cleaning is good. I open my case's about every month and clean. I have opened up computers that had dust-bears instead of dust-bunnies. I have even found spider webs in some. I know you know this but just as a reminder- Be sure to ground yourself to the metal in the case before touching any of the cards inside.

David, my friend. Haven't talked to you in a while. Have you tried rebooting to see if you get the error again? If so, make sure all cards(graphics,sound) and memory are seated properly. Also check all cables to insure they are pluged in correctly. Sometimes gremlins will cause these to work loose.

Yes you can install SMF. I installed it a couple of weeks ago. Modification of the board is easier than either phpbb or IPB. I did use phpbb, heavily modified, but dropped it because of the security issues and having to update it every few days.

Thanks Bruce. Thats what I thought. I'm not going to open a ticket, the tables are empty so I will delete it and change my password just to be on the safe side. My thoughts were that it could be something left behind from checking for unsecure or outdated scripts like the phpbb check last month. Thanks again

While checking a db in phpmyadmin this morning I found a new database named test. It was created on Fed 24 and contains 2 tables. One named Scott and one named test25. Since I don't remember seeing this before so my question is- is it a db created by phpmyadmin or TCH, should I leave it or delete it? TIA

An ip lookup of the ip I banned. Its just the top section, I'm not going to list the phone numbers and such.

Googlebot was hitting my forum really heavy for several days. It was on my forum all day long hitting every page over and over. I used the forums ban ip feature to stop the bot only on the forum. It hasn't returned since banning.

I received the email also. Several weeks ago there was an alert about phpbb stating we should upgrade. Not wanting to lose all my mods I did a Changed Files Only to update all the vulnerable files to v2.0.11. Does this mean I'm now going to have to do a full update?
