KW, I just couldn't leave it alone. I tried Power List again. When I first tried this script I used my browser to ftp the cgi and got the errors. This time I used cuteftp and made sure to send in ascii mode, everything worked the first time. No problems,no errors. I didn't change anything in the code so It had to be the way my browser sends files(not in ascii mode). Maybe this will help someone else if having problems. curtis

Give up that easy, now KW you know me better than that. I stayed up most of the night trying everything I could think of. I had deleted the Power List script. tried 2 others getting server errors. deleted those. I then tried the mailing list supplied by TCH, got error message. So I went back to the remotely hosted script I was using before. Its not very good. Some of the people will get their mailings when supposed to, some will not. Seems like about 10 don't get it.Next mailing a different 10 will not get it. curtis

Thanks, I could not find the error, deleted the script. Will try something else. curtis

I am trying to setup a mailing list (Power List). At this point I must say I don't know much about cgi. Followed instruct, changed Options, made sure the sendmail path was correct, uploaded the mail.cgi folder to the cgi-bin and chmod to 755. In the instruct it says to use http://www.******/cgi-bin/mail.cgi but that didn't work, got a server error so I tried http://www.******/public_html/cgi-bin/mail.cgi and got my 404 page. Any suggestions? curtis

Here is a link to Tiger Direct with 2 v92 modems, internal and external. Tiger Direct Price are quite reasonable. curtis
-
Lianna, the newer v92 modems have a Modem-On-Hold feature You would simply change the old 56k v90 modem in the computer with the newer. curtis

ooooh,Lianna, that hurts. Next thing you know you will be telling him to get a walker or wheelchair. curtis

Kevin, Seems like I remember you talking about a birthday(i will not say which bday)on the CSB board. I think I had a year or two on you. So I guess its my knees and elbows. Curtis

After being on dial-up for a longggg time and then moving to broadband anytime a 1.3 file downloads in under 15 min is fast to me. curtis

On my broadband the index page loads in 2 seconds The 1.3 mb download from start to finish was 28 seconds Everything seems fast enough to me. curtis

I made a custom 404 page that I used on my old host. Can I implement this custom page or do I need to make another? If I can use the one I have what do I need to do. Curtis

Thanks everyone, I will look at O'Reillys. While I don't think I will try to be an expert at cgi and or perl I want enough know-how to get me in trouble Thanks again. Curtis

KW, Even with a book, I'm sure, there will still be many, many questions for the people here to answer for me. I will be the first to admit I don't know beans about cgi but I may be at the front of the class when it comes to wanting to learn. curtis

I go to cPanel and I'm like a kid in a candy store. My last host had very limited resources, only 2 or 3 preinstalled cgi scripts, the barest of stats,NO support to speak of,you get the idea of what I mean. This is great. Now to get a book on cgi/perl. curtis

KW, Its great to see that your good humor follows you from board to board. Like the saying*The more things change the more they stay the same*. One thing I have never found is good help from any host I have had in the past, I think that will change here. You,Lianna and Turtle I know give fast, polite and detailed information. After reading post listed in this forum it seems everyone answers questions the same way. I look forward to getting to know them all. Even with my limited knowledge I may be able to help someone.
